I would give myself the title I've always wanted, "ignorant n00b." Then I'd make Alo a moderator of every board that he's not already (only a couple left) and claim that Blademaster was his custom title.

Then I'd change the horrible new title at 12500 posts to something vaguely more suitable, ban Thuryl (I never trusted him anyway), and call it a day.

:cool:

The year increments with each scenario you play, starting at 855. There is no set_year call, although it has been requested. So there's no way to get the year counter to display "849" when the player starts your scenario.

EDIT: Unless you use a pre-made party and do something that may be described, er, elsewhere.

However, a lot of the garbage that I had to do in English class didn't have anything to do with effective communication. "Read this work. Write an essay analyzing literary devices. Rinse. Repeat."

I never wrote a real argument essay or more than a couple creative pieces for a class in all of high school, and I think those two genres have as much to do with real-life writing as any other. Literary analysis has its place, but it sometimes gets exalted as not merely the most important thing to teach in an English class, but in fact the only thing to teach, and I think that's a mistake.

Learning to communicate effectively is important, but I'm not sure that high school English classes put that as their foremost priority.

At times I wish the literature and communication parts of English could be separated: reading lots of canonical great works of the English language is not necessarily directly related to learning how to get one's ideas across. The University of California (like many high schools) has a terrible problem recognizing this right now.

To add on to what Thuryl said: note that this requires no scripting. All you have to do is take the wallset in its entirety, save it as a graphic number (a resource in the cmg file on a Mac, G5[something].bmp on a PC), and then set it as one of the wall sheets in Town Details.

It's been a looong time since I used the BoE editor, but doesn't it tell you what each field is when you select what kind of node you'd like? I don't remember trying to memorize anything — I just went with what it told me.

The name in the question field does not matter at all. It's the set_name in the town script that actually sets the name.

I'm not sure how you can fail to realize that your likes and dislikes constitute a personal opinion, not a universal truth for all. However, you seem to do this consistently, so figure it out. (If you do realize this, change your wording to reflect that.)

Fortunately, you can see my notes online, too, so you can see where I got the stuff that I said in Bahs. I tried not to make too much up. This should help to separate the canon from the fanfic, so to speak.

Also Erik Westra's page hosts the reputedly mediocre Death at Chapman's, and Khoth's page hosts Babysitting (click on BoE/BoA stuff).

What happens when you try to download scenarios from SW?

That sounds like a subliminal message to indicate that we are actually playing GF, not Avernum.

I assume A1-3 work based on something like nodes, like BoE — except that we don't have a scenario editor for them. But if you don't use BoE, that probably means little to you.

Generally, the AT games work like any other application — there's some code that gets compiled and assembled into a bunch of machine language (1's and 0's) that the computer reads and executes when you open the program.

As for your other question: put specobj in your scenario's folder. Place the terrain script with the special tool for placing terrain scripts in the editor. Edit the memory cells as desired.

That doesn't actually disagree with many here. I agree — I just think the overall experience suffers when the plot is bad. The gameplay is virtually always the strongest point in a SW game, but Jeff has made a few good plots before, and I'd like to see him do so again. I'd rather have good gameplay and a good plot than just good gameplay.

Okay, I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and say that you're in Galthrax's room (which is the only boss fight room that holds you prisoner inside after you've walked in — and it gives ample warning about this, I might add) and you're having trouble beating Galthrax.

Leave Town is a really bad idea in Bahs — there's no way to get back where you're going. However, you could figure out a way to beat Galthrax legitimately. If you want to do that, describe your party and someone will probably be able to help you more effectively than I can.

You could also enter debug mode by opening the script slithhome.txt and finding this:

beginstate LOAD_SCEN_STATE;
init_special_item(1,"Metal triangle","This is a small, silver, metal triangle that you found in the depths of Ancient Bahssikava.");
And replacing it with this:

beginstate LOAD_SCEN_STATE;
turn_on_debug_mode();
init_special_item(1,"Metal triangle","This is a small, silver, metal triangle that you found in the depths of Ancient Bahssikava.");
To turn on debugging mode, type “}”, followed by “=” (so a right bracket, followed by an equals sign). Then press Shift-K to kill all the monsters in the town, including Galthrax.

Or, alternatively, use the character editor to beef up your party's stats until you can kill Galthrax.

Fortunately this is no mayor bug, a little change in the scenario properties from 35-45 to say 45-55 and bingo! It is done.
This is definitely not a bug. I beat it with a HLPM-made party at level 40 that was entirely like the default party — I didn't do anything special because I wanted to make sure that it could be done without anything weird. If you want to know how I did it, read the walkthrough. There were a few fights throughout the scenario that gave me trouble, but I explain how I got through them.

I am told that a party that is strong in missile weapons goes through much more easily than a default-like party.

Its better people liking you, than disliking you. That's why.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

I think the idea is: being nice to each other is better than being completely mean and unpleasant to each other. This is a novel concept when it comes to talking about Blades scenarios, I know, but saying a few good things about a scenario makes it much easier to tolerate saying a few negative things about a scenario, which is something that I think all of us forget too often.
