He was referring to the latest version of BoA (which for PCs is v1.0.3), not the latest version of the HLPM (which is v1.2.1), which is the reason I asked him where he got the HLPM — the SW site still has v1.1 up. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. What level party are you going into the Shopping Area with? Do you receive any errors entering any of the areas of the scenario? Also, from where are you getting the HLPM? My web page or elsewhere? Okay, well, he's sort of a newbie, so let's at least try to explain. Woodstock, people around here appreciate proper spelling, capitalization, and grammar, because these things make your posts easier to read. Making a few mistakes here or there is okay, but at least try. And just in case no one has said it yet: welcome to the forums. Leave your sanity at the door — although in your case you may want to sample some of the sanities that have been left there and take a little bit in with you. In any case, I've only heard a song or two by ELO. They're not bad, but they're not something I'd wanted to hear regularly. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. quote:The reason that you couldn't survive the first battle is that you didn't use the mage and the priest. The reason that they're there is that they have different abilities now — you get a melee fighter, a melee/javelin thrower, a first aid expert, and a pure javelin thrower. They don't use spells anymore, but if you fail to use their new abilities, expect to die over and over again. Personally, I liked to switch the third and fourth characters and use the first character primarily as a melee figher and the second and (now) third as javelin throwers, with the fourth stepping in to do healing whenever needed. I didn't find the fights very hard when I did this. Also, low-level scenarios are not necessarily easier, nor are they supposed to be. quote:No — you're not really supposed to gain levels in this scenario, so it shouldn't matter much. I didn't want to muck with the party's traits, since you're not forced to use the pre-fab, and I didn't want to screw up someone's party more than I had to. If you don't like it, you don't have to have it. quote:You can use any party you like. If you think it would be easier with four fighters, make a four-fighters party and try it. I think you'll get killed immediately, because the javelin-throwers and first aid person are very useful, but it's up to you. quote:Most items in my scenarios are for decoration, not for use. Personally, my favorite duo is a simple brute fighter and a mage/priest. It's pretty straightforward, and it's not nearly as difficult as a singleton. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. quote:Agreed so far. quote:You say this so casually, as if it were that easy. I'm not an expert on disaster management, but it's pretty clear that someone in the national government mucked up pretty badly here — we had several days advance warning on this, no? Yet thousands died — and I'd have to say that the fact that at least one local congressman wants to punch W's lights out is a pretty good indication that he blundered. He didn't bring the winds or the flood, but he was probably part of the reason (although not the whole reason) that when the waters came, many people were still in harm's way. And if you don't want to classify that as an "effect" of the hurricane, I'd say you're playing semantic games. FEMA is definitely in some serious trouble here, too, as Toast pointed out earlier. It's definitely not all Bush's fault, but I think it would be disingenuous to say that he shares none of the blame. Eh, I don't mean to play politics here, but Ben's casual way with the truth gets to me. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Use the haste potions as soon as possible (distribute one to each of your party members) and make good use of the pila. And be aware that you can gather potions in outdoor mode if you're not in combat — get more health potions and distribute them as needed. Do you really think that thousands are dying because they are weak-willed and stupid? Unless you lived through the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco, it's unlikely you've seen a disaster of this magnitude. I was saying that the scenarios end up being so complicated (and so significantly branching) that designers can't possibly test everything. We have to rely on players to report things. And sometimes players don't report things for a looooooong time. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. A cop out? Drakey, wtf? (For the record, I have fixed every reported bug that I can replicate. The Fly-Retreat bug is the only one I haven't managed to fix.) Thralni: There will be no time limit. This is a response to the failures of ZKR, not an attempt to replicate them. :P [ Monday, September 05, 2005 09:26: Message edited by: Kelandon ] -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Cluster your calls. In the battle scenes in Bahs, I have one "turn" per call cluster, so if I want to know where a character is at any given time, I look in the previous cluster. Also, it helps to create different group movements at different times, so that if you know that one character is walking one space south every "turn," make that first, and then add calls on top of that. And test, test, test. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! My SW-related biography, occasionally updated, is here. In real life, my name is Tom (but I get really annoyed if anyone from boards calls me that — don't ask why). I'm twenty years old and a third-year at U.C. Berkeley, majoring in Classical Languages (Greek and Latin) and minoring in Physics. I teach SAT prep with The Princeton Review for my monetary needs. Politically, I'm left-of-center both socially and economically, probably leaning towards European-style socialism (because Americans usually mean "communism" when they say "socialism"). My religion basically boils down to atheism, give or take. Also I hardly ever post, so you'll never get to know me at all. :P -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. You can copy and paste from one to the other, but sometimes you have to copy it multiple times. Try using Preview as an intermediary — I have no idea why this makes it easier, but it does. Also, is it becoming blurry when you make the transfer, or is it already blurry in Photoshop once you've edited it? -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens.
