If that were actually the case, Ben, then why would the Avernum Trilogy board have been changed to the Avernum Series board? -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Ach, you get about three of the pre-provided standard responses. 1) Jeff does not read these boards. If you want to address Spiderweb's actual employees, e-mail them at their e-mails on the website. 2) Graphics cost money. An engine upgrade would not be too hard — he does this from time to time — but getting original graphics costs a bunch. That said, apparently Avernum 4 is going to have improved graphics, but don't expect much. Gameplay, not graphics, is the primary selling point for SW. 3) Welcome to the boards. Leave your sanity at the door. Don't be a 1-post newbie. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I'm not sure about vahnatai, but I'd think the A1 heroes could tell the difference between men and lizard-men or cat-men. As for where the info came from, Motrax is only too happy to tell his part of the story when you ask him. I don't doubt that others were around who knew other parts as well. Grahk's Peninsula is almost directly south of Lost Bahssikava. Unfortunately, the exact history of the peninsula was not in my notes, but that sounds right. Note that two different groups went to Motrax (according to his version of the story), one fleeing sliths and one asking for shelter. Also, some of them went to the Crypt of Drath. Demonslayer was broken either in the crypt or near there, judging by the note inside. After that, they tried to go west (according to the note), but they ended up going east and being attacked by sliths (according to Solberg and where you find the other pieces). After that they went further east and were killed by nepharim. Various other historical facts can be gleaned from my notes on my website. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Huh. That's funny. I just checked the door.txt script, and it has the call get_unlock_spell_strength. I looked in the Appendices, and it's undocumented. It's pretty obvious, though. Anyway, I hadn't noticed this before Imban pointed it out, but to be more specific: apparently your unlock spell strength needs to be double the lock's strength. I assume that means that your bonus plus your spell level needs to be double the lock's strength, i.e. Mage Spells + Int + Unlock level = 10 to unlock a door with strength 5. Or possibly it means that you need Unlock Doors at level 10 to unlock a door that you could pick with Tool Use at 5. Either way, this is, in normal situations, utterly useless. However, it's interesting to note. Your problem is very likely that you don't have a custom objects script file. If your scenario .bas file is titled, for example, "valleydy.bas," you need a text file titled "valleydydata.txt" (possibly omitting the .txt if you're not set to show extensions). Make that file, put the script in it, and see what happens. Bahs can be completed with a party ranging from very close to the default (which is what I used) to a singleton. In order to get a party up to the right level for Bahs, you could use the HLPM. This is by far easier than playing through several more scenarios just to get to Bahs. You could also play: The Cave of No Return, A Perfect Forest, Mad Ambition, Emerald Mountain, Cresent Valley, Druids of Krell, and Canopy, in that order. That sounds like a lot of scenarios, but most of them are pretty short, and you'd definitely have enough strength for Bahs at that point. If you're really looking for a challenge, you could skip half of those and simply complete APF, EM, DoK, and Canopy. Also, creating four different topics for this was probably highly unnecessary. You know, I found that most of the time I didn't do much preparation for different areas in the AT (unlike in BoA). My party became so strong so quickly that I didn't need to. You'd be right at home among BoE-ers (and in another two or three years, BoA-ers). I had some of the same feelings about not knowing what an area would require and liking changes in elevation, which has influenced the style of my scenarios, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I typically stack my potion ingredients on one person. I allot each character a kind of potion to carry (or two sometimes), and I sell everything else. I sell all scrolls. And my rule of thumb for taking items is that the item needs to be worth at least four times as many coins as it weighs and never less than 50 coins, although sometimes I end up with lots of lightweight stuff and end up dropping some light things for heavier, more valuable things. With this, I rarely had to leave a dungeon to sell things before I was ready to leave, and I almost always had enough money to buy spells (since I never bought items). And you know, I didn't have a problem with the vahnatai as a race. I had a small problem with them as characters (their motivation in A3 seemed bland), but not as a race.
