Not that I'm opposed to testing things out, but the docs do specify exactly which items cause bad side effects if modified, under "Constant Item Types":

Food – Items 4 to 12 and 397 to 400.
Javelins, Arrows, Bolts - Items 84 to 88 and 99 to 108.
Alchemy Ingredients, Basic Potions, Scrolls - Items 214 to 263.
All the Tools - Items 171 to 178.
Crystals and Dust - Items 326 to 329 and 435 to 439.

I don't remember putting in anything about Nature Lore in LP. Certainly not in the default potion-gathering ability, at least. As Imban said, some other scenarios use the skill, though. Canopy has at least one special spell that involves it.

In usage, it's a perfectly normal Latin word: if you said "virus" to a Roman, he would've understood what you meant ("poison"). It's a bit odd in declension, however, as it is missing some of its parts, and the parts that it has are slightly irregular, although not horribly so.

And declension is the thing that matters when we're talking about what the plural is.

Wikipedia is perhaps unnecessarily mysterious in that "Plural of Virus" page. The plural in Latin (if it existed) would almost certainly have been "vira," which one can deduce from the genitive stem "vir-" and the gender of the noun (neuter).

I mean, unless they're going to postulate that it would be a heteroclite, but that seems somewhat absurd. Granted, the nominative case is a bit odd for a neuter noun, but still.

Q1: Order matters. Imagine that all the instructions in corescendata get done in order first, and then all the instructions in your custom objects script get done in order next. Item 23 has already imported the older version of item 22 in corescendata, so whatever you do to item 22 in your custom objects script won't matter.

Q2: The items have the alterations that you've made. What do you mean?

The docs do mention certain items that probably ought to remain the same — if you change a Healing Potion into a Giant Dragonslaying Doomsword + 10, then doing the alchemy to make a Healing Potion will instead make the Doomsword.

But other than the ones that the docs say to leave alone, you're pretty much safe here.

Q3: Go for it. It's entirely possible. Difficult, but possible with adequate experimentation.

One should DEFINITELY not make a playable duplicate of A2 in BoA. It would probably violate some copyright laws, serve no purpose (if you want to play A2, play A2, not BoA), and take too much work to justify such a useless end.

However, this project (re-making the areas from A2) is different and potentially very useful to designers.

For the record, it's in .zip format on my site. The link was bad, but it's fixed.

There is already a link from the front page to the host page.

Most people like ASR a lot. I didn't, but eh. You could give Mad Ambition a shot, too, if you were in the mood for the indescribable experience of a TM scenario.

The Archive happened on, er, June 17th of this year. It hasn't been very well publicized outside of the Lyceum forums, though. Maybe I should do more.

You might want to, you know, read the topic to figure that out.

EDIT: Hint: it has something to do with how quickly one can get across a continent in Avernum 3.

I guess once it's up in one of those places, I'll put it in the Archive, too. Or you could just send it directly to me.

How odd. A quick search of the docs seems to suggest that there is no direct way to make an A1-style healer. I checked VoDT, which has a healer in Sweetgrove, and this is how Jeff does it (dialog removed to prevent stretching):

begintalknode 51;
state = 42;
personality = 24;
nextstate = -1;
condition = 1;
question = "I require the services of a healer. (Pay 150 Coins)";
text1 = "*no money*";
text3 = "*changed mind*";
text5 = "*heals*";
code =
clear_strings();
if (coins_amount() < 150)
add_string(1);
else if (run_select_a_pc(1) == 0)
add_string(3);
else {
play_sound(24);
add_string(5);
restore_pc(get_selected_pc());
change_coins(-150);
}
break;
It appears that anything more complicated than that must be scripted directly.

I'm assuming you're talking about the end-combat bug, which places parties across special rectangles and therefore doesn't call them. If so, the way to prevent this is to use the call change_blocked.

You can also just change the door script to make a lock of 200 genuinely impenetrable. It's not too hard to make it just not run either the pick lock or the bash door if a memory cell is set to 200.
