You can also just change the door script to make a lock of 200 genuinely impenetrable. It's not too hard to make it just not run either the pick lock or the bash door if a memory cell is set to 200.

There's the whole, you know, Non-Disclosure Agreement that beta testers have to sign... no beta tester is allowed to tell much of anything about the game.

It scrolls slowly. Especially when the different icon adjustments are all on the screen at once. I don't know how to say it any other way — if I want to scroll down three rows, and click down three times, it takes a while to get there. Not too long, but long enough that I suspect that it could be done faster.

It'd be nice to be able to resize the windows, too. And for a double-click on a graphic to choose the graphic.

These are little details, though. The program will be useful regardless.

Wow. This will be pretty incredibly useful. Two things: do you want to release the source? Most BoA utilities are open-source, so it seems natural. Also, might it be possible to optimize the scrolling somehow? It scrolls pretty slowly for me.

Anyway, looks like a great program. I will definitely use it often.

It is possible, I assume, with a judicious use of the LOAD_SCEN_STATE and some calls checking party location, to make certain "safe save" spots and make reloading anywhere else deadly. Such a game would force continuity.

It would be interesting but difficult to try to make this approach more fun than annoying.

Very few memorable fights in Blades will ever work like this.

For clarification: there are two dragon-like things in Bahs. One is the Drake Lord in the tunnels. The other is Galthrax, the dragon. The Drake Lord steals the mind of your first character. Galthrax has different nasty tricks up his sleeve.

Because the distances are given in "miles." If you want to imagine that these are "Ermarian miles," not Earth miles, feel free, but that idea seems stupid to me.

And the size of Valorim doesn't tell us much about the size of the other continents.

That's an intersting suggestion. If it turns out begin_talk_mode(); prevents a move_to_new_town(); call from completing afterward I may redesign my town and use this method. By the way have you used this successfully before in any of your scenarios?

Other than the force_view_center part, the first few cut scenes in Bahssikava all work according this principle.

As always, the Windows beta test will happen a few months after the Mac one. When it says chip type, I'm assuming it means, for example, G5 or Pentium IV or whatever.

Strictly speaking, an agglutinative language is one that can create words by combining sound units (typically syllables). Consider in English the word "regicide," consisting of two parts: regi, meaning "king," and cide, meaning "to kill," creating the word "regicide" meaning "to kill the king." The root reg also produces words like "regal," also relating to "king."

Agglutinative languages can do this a LOT more than English can, so that "many-bad-things-speaking" could be turned into a normal word.

Finnish is an example of an agglutinative language, which is part of the reason why it's hard to translate with a computer translator.

Thralni, since you seem to have missed the details: teleportation after a cut scene can happen, but that cut scene has to have been called from a special rectangle, not from anything else (like a terrain script, a creature script, or a START_STATE). Bahs has a few places that dodge this, like the very first cut scene in town 1.

EDIT: As Thuryl said.

I was figuring it based on the mile measurements given in the signs between towns. The full calculation can be found here, near the bottom of the page. Now that I look back at it, my lower bound was about three or four times the size of California, and my upper bound was somewhat larger than the size of India.

All maps of the surface except those of Valorim itself are invented by the community with little justification.

Depending on how you figure it, Valorim may be the size of California or possibly even the size of India. It's pretty small, though.

I'm not sure about the Keep of Tinraya, but there has been some debate about what's north of Blackcrag, and I don't think I was ever convinced. Some say that another continent is on the other side, and I swear something in A3 said that, but I have never been able to find it.

ZKR is geographically very obscure. I never have figured out how it's supposed to fit into mainland Avernum.

It does that, and also it prevents the party from being placed there when ending combat or coming in via a move_to_new_town or anything like that.

Okay, there are several things we're talking about here. As far as I know, the call change_blocked, the floor definition fl_blocked, and the Place Blocked Space tool all do the same thing: they make the space impossible for monsters to step on and prevent the party from being placed on the space when ending combat (or when using move_to_new_town or whatever).

The call block_entry, on the other hand, prevent the party from stepping on a space and nothing else.

(This is much the same as what Ephesos just said, but it's more detailed for clarification.)
