Mac. Not MAC. It's an abbreviation for Macintosh, not an acronym for "Maintenance Administration Center" or something.

And I am told beta-testing is a lot less fun than it seems to people who have never done it.

will there be a need for "pc" beta testers when major kinks are taken out of the Mac version and it is converted to be used in windows?

When it says chip type, does it mean CPU, or something entirely different? And if it is something different, what is it?

As always, the Windows beta test will happen a few months after the Mac one. When it says chip type, I'm assuming it means, for example, G5 or Pentium IV or whatever.

I should apply. But then I've been turned down the last 3 times. Any way I bet it does take away from the game a bit.

I'll try out for the PC beta-test. Don't have a Mac, though.

Lamentably, despite having been a beta tester for a few projects on other games, I'm a mere stinkin' Windows-user. Oh well... maybe when the Windows tests come out, though they're without a doubt, going to be oversubscribed by a long stretch...

Probably none, but its the same with me :P

Just submit the form, and we'll see what happens :) I also just tried. I know I will be turned down, but some time has to be the first time, no?

By the way, are you using Mac? if so, all system and machine specs, can be found in a program called something like "Apple systemprofiler". if you look there, you'll see all the system and machine specs you wish.

Unlikely. He'll probably just release the Windows version without testing, and hope it works.

I just wonder why it takes months to port the game for the PC.

Anyway, it looks like PC users won't have a christmas present, unlike Mac users...

It takes months because of the small but critical differences between Macs and PCs that result in nothing at all working when software isn't painstakingly ported. Or you can compile the file blindly and retitle it "Waste of several megs," your choice.

—Alorael, who suspects your chance of testing without knowing your system specs is small. If something goes disastrously wrong for you and only you, Jeff then has no idea what could be the cause. You really should be able to figure your specs out somehow. You did buy your computer or its components, right?

No, Alorael, I nicked it from a blind monkey  . Of course I bought it, I've just had it for over five years, so I don't remember the specs.

Here is one of the relatively rare moments when we tenacious minority Mac minions get to enjoy something prior to the Windoze world. Don't begrudge us this. To this day I am still grievously disappointed that the Civilization III add-on levels and Multiplayer followup was never even ported to Mac...to name but one possible example where we suffer.

Hey, someone who's been a Mac beta-tester before...how long does it take to hear back from Mariann whether or not you've been selected to test? Are we talking a couple days here...a couple weeks...or what?

Aha, and I see Mariann is member #1 here. Who is member #2?

Well, yeah...why be number two when you can be number one after all? :)

I see Drake mentioned elsewhere that we can probably expect replies if we are accepted to beta-test about one week after they close submittals for testing. So, the question now is, when do they stop taking applicants?

Mmm. #1 is just the general Board Admin account. Tis shared by Jeff, Mariann and I guess anyone else in the firm that has any will to be drunk enough to look at the forum.

I didn't realize intoxication was a prerequisite for participation in the Spiderweb boards. Come to think of it, that DOES explain a number of posts I've seen around here however.

I only wish that I had the time to be a beta-tester. Unfortunately, my professors are bent on keeping me busy every waking minute. Curses!
