The spidey boards just wouldn't be the spidey boards without Terror's Martyr. He's gone after me once or twice, but even though I'm pretty new here, I could tell that he wasn't really that bad a guy. Just rough around the edges sometimes.

On a sidenote, I'm back, people! and why hasn't TM made a post yet? ;P

Levels aren't an in-character thing. Your character has the makings of a great mage but has untapped potential. As you go through the game, you tap that potential. Besides, who said his dream was realistic?

The other people in the game certainly don't seem to think so :P

Working on my scenario - haven't gotten much done this month, just a few towns unfortunatly due to all the distractions, but I'm hot at work.....three outdoors sections finished, the Tower of Magi is nearly finished (I might add more later, but it's already ****ing huge due to it's importance in the story) And the first dungeon is complete. Working on special encounters.

For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm making a scenario called Archmage Ascension, about a singleton mage who is trying to prove himself and become the one true Archmage of Avernum.....and the world. Goes from level 1 to truly epic levels (It should cap off somewhere in the 150-175 range) with really high-level spells as well......if I can make it that big. Trying not to get too ambitious :P

A question about Skribbane in General
Warrior

I think skribbane is an original drug *shrug*

Okay. From the top:

I chew my skribbane, and
Chase it down with lots and lots of cheap wine
then I
drink a little normal wine
Chase that with some mushroom merlot and almaria yellow for variety
not done yet
kick it with the gremlin wine
tip it with the soporific brew
the soporific herbs, those I chew
and after all of this, I get sick and spew spew spew

Speculating about Avernum 4's plot in General
Warrior
Member # 3978

Indeed. avernum 4 shall be a blaze of gore in all likelyhood.

The empire might still stand, but Rentar-Ihrno is going to get her ass kicked, and the entire continent of valorim is likely to be taken by Avernites. As they said in ASR, an island is easy to hold once you have it. Even a continent.

Seriously, the Empire is pretty much the same as it was in Hawthorne's rule. They hate nephilim, and they limit magical teaching. How can the empire tolerate the Avernites, who live and freely teach magic, on the surface? The only thing to keep the peace is one or the other conforming. The empire sure as hell wont conform. Neither will the Avernites.

Bloodshed shall ensue. And with the entire continent of Valorim in thier hands as well as Avernum, they will have a LOT of power and it will be VERY hard to take them down. Maybe out of the empire's grasp. A continent is hard to take, and that gigantic series of underground caverns known as Avernum is likely to be quickly settled and spread out now that they have supplies from above.

In short, the avernites already have hellaland, if they take Valorim they will have the equivalent of two continents to the Empire's 3, and the Avernites are the strategists, the nonconformists, the adventurers. They're creative. That makes them strategically devastating.

Guerilla warfare vs. uniform lines. Even "terror and atrocity" cant make them win that war. the American Revolution pretty well proved that.

AND the Empire is unstable - rebellions all over the place. ASR proved that the rebels can be effective. If Avernum is making a huge stand against the empire, the empire can expect serious opposition from it's inside.

Thats my say ;)

I've played a VERY tiny bit of Fallout 1, I cant remember any of it. Can you make an effective unarmed fighter?

Funny, I was using a sig like Alorael's before I came here. But seeing as he/she/it (which exactly are you?!) is using it here, thus far I haven't. Now I shall. Why? I'm not really sure. Oh, and I hereby register my vote that all forums be changed to IMBAN. By the way, what the hell does IMBAN stand for?

-Not Alorael, but Solodric, who happens to live in a house built of bricks, therefore rocks, therefore he lives under a rock.

I've thought of a few others I liked:

The original Blade, simply because, despite all the cursing, it made for a good way to waste some time ;) DEFINITLY not the sequel, and I havent seen Blade Trinity

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Hell yes, the one with the live-actors, no cartoons. I think I watched TMNT 2, I dont know. Splinter got kidnapped in the one I saw.

The Maltese Falcon. It may be old, but hey, there was just something badass about Sam Spade ;)

Dont forget that if it werent for TMF, we might not have Black Trenchcoats in movies. Can you imagine The Matrix without black trench coats?

O.k. or Okay, when used in a good tone of voice:
Alright, Okay, Fine, Thats good, Correct, Affirmative, I am affirming that statement

Okay when used by an angry female:
I'm going to rip your viscera out and feed it to you. This is your queue to start running.

Okay when used by an angry male:
Okay, you've pissed me off, lets have at it.

Hope that clears it up ;)

Dont forget that you sell 5 levels of Mage Spells, more than any warrior needs, in A1, and Magery in another one.

By the way, are you the same Solberg from The Lyceum? (the one involved in the controversy)

And a PSP or Nintendo DS.

Mages in BoA - How do I make them work?! in Blades of Avernum
Warrior

Okay, so basicly your telling me that, there is no way to pass up a priest/fighter in real fights? The only combats mages are good for are fights against tons of weak enemies?

Because Priests have Divine Host which is better than most Mage summons. Even Arcane Summon is dwarfed.

Mages should be able to hold thier own in combat, either way. Thier spellskill certainly costs enough to justify it.

I mean, seriously. Priests get cheaper spells that do almost as much damage and Divine Ret. even causes Enfeeblement! Not to mention Divine Host, which is incredibly powerfull now. Seriously, Priests and Fighters just seems to be so much better in combat than mages. Isn't there ANY way to make a good combat mage, short of potions?

I think your referring to Arcane Shield, and unfortunatly it ISN'T very usefull to my experience.

It reflects damage back at your enemy, which is semi-decent but it doesnt do you any good if they're chopping you to bits and have more HP than you do.

It gives you resistance, which lowers thier damage but not by anywhere near enough to justify 25 MP.

The only decent thing about it is the VERY short period of time it grants invulnerability. I also find it extremely annoying that apparently the only way a mage can do anything in a fight is to use Energy Elixers. Fighters dont need elixers - they can do more damage than mages without any elixer of any type, and they can keep going longer.

So I'm back to my original question. IS THERE A WAY, to make a MAGE, more effective or at least AS effective at high levels, as a fighter or priest?

And note that haste only takes 3 MS skill to learn. I'd expect your fighters to have at least 4 by high levels, so they can cast slow (Which they can do in armor)

Are you guys telling me that you cant really come up with a solution either?

My spell I used to be able to cast 10 times is now a 6-caster that isn't worth the skillevel to get it?

Why the hell would anyone want to be a mage if thier spells are so costly and ****ty?! ARGH!

Cant someone come up for a reason to be a mage over a priest/fighter...? Some way to conserve MP and do good damage?
