He means that Kaz hasn't posted again ... yet.

Order of Kaz
The Order has consolidated its position around south-western Pralgad. Alliances with Solaria and Righteous Return, troubles with the Goblin Goblins and the Jsoulza nephilim. Currently have one army posted to the northern border at an ancient temple, and one party on a quest for knowledge to the Keepers of Memory.

Violin and flute.

Recorder, too, though I don't consider something mass taught by schools in such a superficial way to be playing. Piano, self-taught, but enough to bang out a decent tune. Anyone who can play a violin can also play viola, cello and double-bass, though I don't have the latter handy. And since I'm being pedantic about this, anyone who can play a flute can also play a piccolo.

Alo... that's a truly horrible pun.

The Kazian emissary who arrived at the seat of the Righteous Return's government was as hard and as stiff as he who had contacted Solaria. Her armour bore signs of the rough road through the passes of the Jsoulza mountains, as did that of her two escorts.

She saluted. "Cleric-Knight Jeltja. In the name of Kaz, the Avatar acknowledges your request. Praise Kaz for all honour and mercy. You will direct all appeals to Kaz through me."

What is the weirdest thing you've ever seen?
The 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games finale. Hundreds of people should not dress up as Dame Edna Everage.

What is the weirdest thing you've done?
Played Twister on the main uni oval. During lunch break and in full view of everyone.

What is the most humiliating thing you have ever done for money?
Well ... not really money for myself, but a common uni thing is to dress up weird one day a year, go into the city and sell student newspapers for charities.

What is the most humiliating thing you would ever do for money?
For myself, I'm not so greedy for cash that I'd do something I don't want to do.

If you could travel back time, what historical event would you like to witness “live” and why?
Taliesin facing down Maelgan's bards to free Elphin. Okay, so it's probably not a true event, and I'd have to learn Welsh first, but it'd still be interesting to see.

If someone made a movie about your life, what would it be called?
Adjective Noun.

If you were a meal how would you describe yourself?
Death by chocolate.

Have you ever gone a whole day without wearing underwear?
No.

What is the stupidest thing you’ve ever bought?
Any of the many items I never used afterwards.

If you had to kill a SW member, who would it be and why?
If I had to kill someone, I wouldn't advertise it first.

If you had to pick between TM or Alec, who would you pick? and WHY?
Flip a coin.

Solaria

The emissary demanded, and received, the attention of someone high in the Solarian government.

He was a hard-faced man, scarred, in the prime of his life, and he would have been mildly handsome were it not for a towering arrogance and the way that he looked at passerby as if they were not fit to be stepped upon. His armour was polished to a bright sheen that nevertheless did little to hide the signs of heavy use, and the cloak of white and silver was distinctive enough to mark him as a Kazian. He offered a stiff salute.

"Cleric-Knight Raeddeg," he introduced himself without the customary niceties. "Kaz accepts the appeal of Solaria." His tone, though smooth and cultured, revealed his dislike for this particular assignment. "The nephilim are no threat to our might. However, until they have learnt the value of keeping out of His land, alliance is accepted. Praise be to Kaz for all honour and mercy."

Behind Raeddeg, one of the two knights that had accompanied the haughty emissary rolled his eyes.

--------------------

n of Imperius

The main branch of the river had dwindled into a deep and fast-flowing stream, nestled at the foot of thick trees and moss covered boulders. There was not enough room here for an army to advance, and Enhard continued on with a select squad of warriors. They had not far to go; within an hour, Enhard came at last to the source of the river.

Gerulf came to stand at his shoulder. "Glory to Kaz," he murmured, awed, and Enhard could only nod agreement. "Do you suppose the Avatar–?"

"Of course," the high cleric replied. "Did He not send us to this very spot?"

Before them, in a dell as green and rich as the most fertile land, was an ancient, crumbled building. The stone blocks were massive, worn round with the passing of ages, and fallen statues bearded by lichen littered the walk. The hems of their cloaks brushed against leafy vines as they followed the narrow path. It was cool here, shaded on all sides, and they shivered with relief from the heat of the sun. In the centre of an open courtyard was a deep, round pool, and it was from here that the water sprang from the ground, overflowing its edge to run in a channel carved by time. No noise penetrated the building; it was utterly silent here, and still, and though the forest had grown into its boundary, the structure of the building could still be seen.

"What is this place?" Gerulf murmured, ,reluctant to breach the silent sanctity of the ruin with a raised voice.

"A temple," Enhard said, staring at a faded and broken mosaic. "A temple to the old gods. See, there is Kaz."

And indeed, the mosaic held a multitude of figures, among which they could easily recognise their own god. There also was Aescal, and Carrunos, and many others they did not know. And so the Kazians spent the day exploring the remains of the temple, and in prayer, until the tranquility of the sanctuary had permeated their entire being.

--------------------

sw foot of Jsoulza mountains

Like all towns beholden to Kaz, Folcbald was fortified with a wall and a ditch. It was a small town, as towns went, filled with trappers and miners and the occasional farmer. The temple of Kaz was also modest, serviced by two clerics, one of whom had been honourably crippled in battle.

When the attack came, it was with the near silent hiss of arrows in flight and sharp points lodged in the throats of the sentries. Not all of them were killed, of course, and the alarm raised was enough to wake every citizen of Folcbald. They rose from their beds with shouts of confusion and consternation, and grasped what arms lay nearby. Even the children, some of them only as tall as the vicious creatures who now swarmed over the walls, the children who were taught to hold a sword since the moment they could walk, picked up their weapons.

But for every citizen of Folcbald, there were ten more goblins. The garrison in the town was small, and most of the knights died in the blaze that consumed the barracks.

One youth escaped the chaos on a farm worked pony, bearing a goblin spear and a nephilim arrow away to the west. The nearest town was some leagues away. No army could reach Folcbald in time to aid it, but retaliation would be swift.

--------------------

Ndovlu isthmus

"Hssst!" Captain Wilbrand held up his fist, and the group came to an instant standstill. He was staring to the north, dark eyes scanning the slopes of the mountains. Around him all the Kazians were doing the same, hands on their swords. Even Mareike, without the heavy but protective armour of the full knights, started to string her bow. Wilbrand found what he was looking for, and pointed out the small shadow of movement to the others.

"What is it?" Mareike asked, brow furrowed.

"Trouble," said Wilbrand, picking out more movement. Now that he knew what he was looking for, the entire range seemed to be crawling. "And lots of it."

"Goblins," another knight announced.

Wilbrand grimaced with distaste. "We're too exposed here. Come on."

The group redoubled its pace, heading south, away from the goblins they had seen.

And straight into an equally startled party of goblins.

The wind that whipped freed locks of hair across her face was heavy with the taste of salt and the open ocean. The mountains were a dark shadow that filled the horizon to port. Mareike inhaled deeply, enjoying - for the first time in her adulthood - the sensations of sun and speed and rolling waves that she had grown up with. It was refreshing, exciting, and she thanked Kaz again for this opportunity. Beside her, Captain Wilbrand stood a trifle unsteadily, pale and queasy.

"How far do we sail, cleric?" he asked, keeping his gaze firmly fixed on the bucking horizon.

Mareike was not quite untactful enough to laugh at his expense, but she did smile. "Halfway to Valorim," she replied. "There are smugglers' coves where we will be able to start our search." She knew where the most commonly used ones were; the old maps were a legacy, passed down through generations of fishermen and sailors, and her father had made sure she and her brothers knew every safe harbour from the far west of Pralgad to the treacherous reefs and mountain barriers of north Valorim. It was, she was certain, the reason that Kaz had chosen her for this quest.

"And how long will this take?"

This time Mareike did laugh. "Not long, captain," she said reassuringly. "We are not trying to reach Valorim, after all. Searching those mountains will take much, much longer."

But Captain Wilbrand and the majority of his knights could find no ease until they reached the promised shore. Just as they had begun to gain their sea legs, they returned to land, and spent a good hour staggering about while Mareike laughed at them. It did not endear her to them, but the open good humour in her expression and the numerous times she had healed their seasickness meant that the hardened warriors forgave her easily.

And so, with the ship secured in the middle of the safe cove, the small group of Kazians began the long hike into the mountains, hoping to find some sign of the direction they should travel.

--------------------

The group of nephilim approached the main body of the army. It was a small group, well outnumbered, but though they all held swords at their hips and bows on their shoulders, none of the cats went for their weapons. On Enhard's command the perimeter guards let them through to the high cleric's command tent.

He stood still, watching the nephilim, and his men were wary and utterly silent around them, prepared for whatever treachery the cats might initiate. There was nothing to read in the alien faces - not that he would have been able to interpret any nephil expressions he saw anyway. For a long time the cats merely stared at him, and he met the gaze of the lead nephil without blinking.

Then the nephilim turned around and left.

Gerulf uttered a bewildered sound deep in his throat. "What was that all about?" he asked. The nephilim had already disappeared beyond the perimeter, and the camp was now buzzing with questions and confusion.

"I have no idea," Enhard replied slowly. "Kaz grant it's nothing bad."

They saw no more of the Jsoulza nephilim, and it was not until much later that Enhard learned of the probing attacks on the eastern border before that day, all of them easily repelled with little damage on either side, and the other encounters similar to the final one that he had experienced. He had an inkling then that the nephilim had heard his message and had tested its veracity. What they had decided he could only guess.

They were watched.

Enhard knew it; he felt the hidden gaze as a tingle on the back of his neck, the well-developed paranoia of a seasoned warrior telling him that they were not alone. But, though his scouts scoured their flanks for a league in all directions, they did not flush out the spying eyes. He suspected who they were - and if they had not the courage to confront him, they were beneath him.

They had passed through one more fortified town, but this baron welcomed them, if cautiously. At the least, he had not fired upon the Kazians from within the safety of his walls, and had allowed Enhard and some few of his personal guard to enter.

Baron Thiedold had listened as Enhard spoke of his purpose and the tenets of Kaz, then looked into the high cleric's eyes and said, "I am not strong enough to stop your invasion, but I will not force my people to convert to a religion not their own."

And Enhard had nodded, for he could see within this baron a good heart and noble conscience, and said, "Kaz does not take the unwilling worshipper. Only accept His dominion and His law, and He will extend to you His protection. We will build a temple, and a cleric will stay with the forces that Kaz grants for your protection, to teach all who wish to learn of Kaz and His glory."

There had been relief in Thiedold's eyes as they left without conflict, and Enhard knew the dominion of Kaz would not be a hard yoke for this baron to bear. Already he followed many of the laws of decency and honour.

Now, with the town behind them and the lessening river ahead, Enhard felt the prying eyes, and wondered.

My directions are pretty vague, though, for a few reasons. First, you hadn't specified. Second, the Avatar isn't omniscient - he remembers you, but not your exact location. And third - it's character building for my cleric to wander around the mountains. No need to change your placement on my account.

The last of the nephilim were surrounded and weaponless; the lone shaman had an arrow trained on him, ready to let fly the instant he should attempt a spell. Of the other human army, there was no sign - they had withdrawn the moment that victory had been assured, fading back into the hills without hostility, but also without any visible desire to communicate with the Kazian knights. Enhard had commanded that they be allowed to pass through their lines without incident, for they carried their dead and injured with them, and such concern for their fallen comrades was honourable.

Enhard turned his attention to his prisoners. The cat-like beings were spitting defiance and what he assumed were deadly insults in their own tongue. There were ten of them, all injured in some degree; one was larger than most, and more injured than most. It was for this one's life that the others had surrendered rather than fight to the death, and Enhard suspected this nephil to be their leader.

Stepping forward, he placed himself directly in front of the large nephil. The others hissed and moved restlessly, but a single hard glance from Enhard stilled them. He regarded the leader for a long moment. He had never seen a nephil before, and studied it closely. He had taken their measure in this battle; now all that remained was to follow the instructions of the Avatar on the approach to be taken with nonhumans. For his part, the nephil leader endured the silent inspection, returning it with his own. Though his wounds must be painful, he showed no sign of it that the high cleric could recognise.

"Nephil," Enhard intoned.

Black lips pulled back from sharp canines. "Human," the nephil replied in clear imitation of his tone.

Enhard twitched an eyebrow up in amusement. "These lands are under the blessing of Kaz, Lord of War. God has no interest in yours. Seek not to trespass upon His dominion in violence, and Kaz will extend to you the same courtesy."

The nephil stared at him. "Humans speak lies," he snarled. His accent was thick, filled with strange burrs and rolls that no human could attempt, but understandable.

Both eyebrows rose this time. "You are not human," he stated. "You are the children of a different pantheon. Kaz has no interest in you. Take the words of Kaz to your people, if you will, and know that we will follow it to the letter." With that, he signalled to his men, and they allowed the nephilim free. The cats walked slowly towards their mountains, ears twitching as the lines of human knights watched them pass.

A cleric stepped up to Enhard's elbow. "General," he murmured. "Shall we follow?"

Enhard watched the nephilim disappear over the hill. "At a distance, Gerulf. To the borders of our land."

--------------------

The Avatar gazed down on the young cleric, who fought to still the shiver running down her spine. "I have a mission for you, Mareike."

Her eyes brightened with delight. "A mission, my lord?" Less a disciplined soldier and more a scholar, the cleric would have bounced on her knees in excitement, had not the steady and - somehow, she imagined - amused gaze of the Avatar held her to propriety.

"Aye, child. Knowledge has left these lands, and My kin are but a dim memory in the dark dreams of the people. Yet some among you have preserved that which they do not understand. Go, then, you will, to the Keepers of Memory, and obtain those scrolls that My most devout child once wrote."

Mareike swallowed. "And - and where might I find these Keepers, my lord?"

The brilliance of the Avatar's gaze seemed to be directed far beyond her. "Follow the river to land's end. Take then a ship, and search you the mountains bounded by sea. The Keepers may be found there."

Even as she bowed and was dismissed, Mareike's mind was full of excitement. A mission for the great lord! A chance to do something worthy of God. All she needed now was to find the captain and squadron assigned to her, and sort out the supplies.

Enhard paused a moment to take stock of the situation. He was breathing hard, and his arm ached from when a heavy blow had caught his shoulder, but he was not yet seriously injured.

The attack had caught them unawares. With half his army left at the last fortified town to ensure that the forces of the previous petty warlord remained subdued, and his forward scouts missing, Enhard was fighting an uneven battle against the nephilim rabble. It was a challenge, a great challenge, and Enhard offered thanks to Kaz for this opportunity to show his worth. His men were a mixture of seasoned veterans and inexperienced recruits, but not one of them had broken courage in the onslaught. Enhard rallied them and passed out his orders for the final destruction of the nephil attackers. On the far side of the field there were others fighting the nephils. He did not know who they might be, but they seemed organised enough; it would be fairly easy to press the nephils from the two sides, catching them between the two separate armies. The light of battle shone in Enhard's eyes and in the eyes of his army.

"Glory to Kaz!"

As Enhard rushed into the fray once more, the blessing of his god flowed into his body, lending strength to his arm and power to his blade.

An army without discipline is a rabble.
A warrior without honour is a brawler.
A man without god is an animal.

-- from the Scrolls of Kaz.

-------------------

Without carpet to soften the footfalls of metal on marble, the cleric's nail-studded boots created great echoing clashes that reached from one end of the great hall to the other. There were no tapestries hung upon the high polished walls, no cushioned chairs for the weary to rest upon, no gold adorning the ceiling in filigreed finery, nothing to call to mind the opulence and the soft corruption of the building's previous owner. The great Temple of Kaz had been purified and blessed over every stone and every inch of the grounds, until all taint of the deceased noble of the Old Empire had been removed. Clerics clad in full armour, with cloaks of silver and white, stood motionless but alert at intervals, and those without armour walked softly in the pale blue robes of a cleric at rest.

The cleric reached the end of the hall and went down on one knee before the dais. Embossed upon his breastplate above the sign of Kaz were the symbols of his rank, and his cloak was pure silver. "My lord," said High Cleric Enhard, "the Third Army awaits your blessing."

The solitary figure upon the great throne looked up at his words, and Enhard lowered his gaze so that he did not look upon the holy light shining bright enough from the Avatar of Kaz' eyes to blind the unworthy. "You have done well, Enhard," said the Avatar of Kaz, and his voice rolled and echoed like thunder in the hall, filled with harmonics that only those hollowed and infused with the divine light of a true deity could hold. "You shall command the Third Army, and you shall take it north, even unto the source of the river, and you shall bring order to the orderless. Let no injustice be done, and address all dishonour in accordance with my tenets. Go now, and join your army."

Enhard bowed until the white plume of horse-hair upon his helmet brushed the ground. "Your will be done, my lord."

-------------------

Name: The Order of Kaz, Lord of War
Leader Name: The Avatar of Kaz
Government Type: Theocracy
Location: Pralgad, based in Imperius and reaching down the river.
Description:
The collapse of the Empire brought about the downfall of any law or decency in the city of Imperius. In the dark chaos of the following years, a small group of clerics and warriors returned to the teachings of the ancient gods, most particularly Kaz, Lord of War. They were the only protection that the common people of the city and the nearby farms could count on with any reliability. Preaching the ideals of honour and discipline, the following of Kaz grew to become the major religion and, eventually, ruler of Imperius.

Three years ago, a High Cleric emerged victorious from forty days and forty nights of ceaseless battle against a nearby warlord. Judging this to be the most worthy of his followers, Kaz offered him the greatest honour. The High Cleric accepted gladly. Filled with divine power, nothing familiar remains of the man the High Cleric had once been, and he is now known as the Avatar of Kaz.

About an hour for all internet-related things that don't require research/bulk reading.
