What's your dialect? in General

Bolding those that apply:

Vowel mergers/splits:
Rhyme: trap, bath (the vowels, anyway)
Rhyme: father, bother
Identical: cot, caught
Rhyme: foot, goose
Identical: Lennon, Lenin
Identical: pin, pen
Identical: line, loin
Identical: coil, curl
Final vowel of "happy" rhyme with vowel of "meet"

R madness:
Identical: father and farther
Identical: Mary, marry, merry
Rhyme: mirror, nearer
Rhyme: fern, fir, fur
Identical: horse, hoarse

L madness
Rhyme: salary, celery
Identical: fill, feel
Identical: fell, fail
Identical: full, fool

Consonants
Same middle consonant: Singer, finger
Identical: Heat, eat
Identical: Should've, should of (if you were to say "should of")
Identical: Wait, weight
Identical: Wine, whine

My accent is probably more Aussie than anything, but sufficiently different to confuse a lot of (Aussie) people I meet. That's a product of moving around a lot during my formative years. /shrug.

Yes, but of those fifty, I'd only regularly chat with three. There's no point having hundreds of people on your list if you never talk to most of them.

Happy birthday, Tyranicus! :)

Birth dates don't really need to be more specific than the day, but hey, he's not the only one who does it. Though I tend to confine my timing to morning/afternoon/ungodly hour of night.

My birthdays, save for the last year, have always fallen on or just before a major exam. So they passed with barely a notice in a haze of stress and good food.

But I did have a wonderful costume party for my 21st.

I know some people - my brother, for one - who object to spending that much money for a haircut, and that's a cheaper price than any of the hairdressers offer around here. After all, Mum does a perfectly reasonable job for free. That period when he didn't visit for a few years had his hair halfway down his back.

Fringes are one of the most annoying things I ever experienced. It seemed like a week after it was cut, it'd be back in my eyes, and chin length hair is just impossible to deal with. I couldn't keep it straight, couldn't tie it back ...

I like long hair. It's easy to manage, easy to wash, and looks a lot better on me. Sure it gets hot in summer, but putting it in a bun keeps it cool enough. The only trouble I have with it now is a tendency to sit on it if I'm not careful.

Perhaps. I don't look all that foreign, though. The Malay half isn't very strong, and most people never pick up on it. As for language ... I suppose my accent is not as Aussie as it could be, but that comes from spending some formative years in other English-speaking countries.

That still doesn't explain the number of times men twice my age try to pick me up.

I have no idea, but it happens surprisingly often. And in the most random places, too. It is rather creepy. They may not ask that question straight away, but it always comes in somewhere in the conversation.

I would say that some guys wear their hair long because they like it, without referral to the opinions of whatever random girl is present. I would also say that I have no problem with the hairstyle preference of most people, guys or not. Roughly four out of five guys I know with long hair look good with it.

Of course, there are those guys who have long hair simply because they can't be bothered to get it cut.

That's ... not too bad. Consider yourself lucky it isn't 50+ men who come up to you with creepy smiles and ask if you know many languages.

I can't speak for every girl on Spidweb, and I certainly wouldn't stab someone for calling me cute. I'd probably blush, smile, look away and, if they keep it up, kick them. Hard.

And, yes. Welcome back, JadeWolf. :)

I prefer BoA to BoE, and not only because of the graphics. There's just some things about A in general that are more likable than E. If I have to work with a clunky editor, so be it . . . only it will take just that much longer.

Indirectly.

I never would have downloaded - and, eventually, registered - BoA if I hadn't come to the forums, but the forums did not affect my opinion of its value, beyond revealing its existence.

That's the problem I have. All the time I was learning it, I was thinking, 'Okay, I know the equations, I can apply them where I'm told to apply them. I can even parrot the textbook in my exam. But it just doesn't make sense.' I also find it more interesting looking at stuff on a somewhat larger scale. It probably didn't help that I never quite understood anything that particular lecturer ever taught me. I passed that unit by extreme short term memory cramming.
