No, Black Shades cannot be targetted with anything but physical attacks. If they're in impassable terrain, I'm afraid you get to experience the dubious joys of feeling many, many spells with no chance of retaliation. —Alorael, who never succeeded in killing Sulfras. He never tried very hard to off her, either. Call him crazy, but he doesn't like killing dragons. Too much work for a quick reload. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

From my understanding of the Old Testament, the 613 Mitzvot are very clear. Leviticus 18:6 is given to Moses to be addressed to all Israel, and it forbids homosexuality. (Specifically, it forbids males lying with males; women receive no similar commandment as far as I can tell.) However, the Bible forbids all kinds of things, including familiarities among family (hugging, etc.). Thus, if you interpret the Bible strictly, homosexuality is indeed wrong. I don't know what the punishment is supposed to be or where it is stated, but God does not approve. ?Alorael, who does not choose to interpret the Bible strictly. He hugs family, he eats pork, he works on the Sabbath, and he has no problems with homosexuality. Some things change over thousands of years. O merciful Lord, make the pain go away. The fact that Alec made this topic is understandable. The fact that people played along is entertaining. The fact that someone who should know better became confused is inevitable. The fact that this topic is now a mockery of a parody wounds my soul deeply. ?Alorael, who would like to welcome Alec to Spiderweb. All 1400 odd posts of his, custom title, and all. "Not that way!" Hispar cried desperately. He rushed in the opposite direction as Akhtar and Shirr-Uth stared. Just as quickly, he turned around and ran back. There was something very large and very angry coming from the direction that Hispar had been headed The shaman disappeared from sight. Almost immediately, a very large beast festooned with improbable spikes and barbs roared as it made its slow but inexporable way towards the two remaining men, who took off running for the temple. "This is just a ruin. And not a very large one at that," Akhtar observed dispassionately. "I don't think we can defeat a demonlord here." Shirr-Uth cocked his head for a moment, then sighed. "It is not the demonlord. It must be a minion sent to find out what we are and probably to kill us." "And this is not any important temple," Hispar said with relief in his voice. "There's no one here at all. But look! That must be Selger!" He took off at a flapping run towards the town. "Well? Are you coming? I don't want to wait for a demon in an old pile of stones!" ?Alorael, who acts as coherence damage control. Ask him about his special rates! Writing seems to be a common theme here. I write as well, and I have been published in a fashion. It's still nothing I'd care to have shouted abroad, so you'll have to find it for yourself if you're really curious. I also enjoy setting impossible tasks. ?Alorael, who does a very small amount of programming in his spare time. He is even more ashamed of his coding than he is of his writing. At least his writing never causes enormous system crashes and more than occasionally has a beginning, middle, and end. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Not only that, BSC has mastered the principles of cheerfulness and friendliness. Despite numerous lessons, FBM still hasn't quite grasped those two skills yet. It is, perhaps —Alorael, who also has almost never seen someone accused of being someone else not because of resemblance to another Spidwebber but for lack of complete consistency. BSC, you have set a new record! Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Is it just me, or has BSC become acclimated to life at Spiderweb far, far too quickly? ?Alorael, who has recently tried multiple melons at once. It can be challenging to pull it off satisfyingly, especially if you are not especially limber, but the results are well worth the time spent stretching and possible pulled muscles. Hi, Chaldrath. You are a living example of the impossibility of escaping Spiderweb's ruthless clutches, but it's rather difficult to follow the thread of a conversation when there are gaps that last months and months. ?Alorael, who doesn't see much benefit in being an oldbie if you're not around to reminisce about the good old days and possibly poke the newbies with a metaphorical cane. I have found that dried fruits can provide some wonderful diversion from the more workaday joys of melons. Papaya spears in particular have many intriguing applications, though raisins, apricots, and prunes all have their places. Try them for yourself, and I assure you that you will never regard certain foodstuffs in the same light again. ?Alorael, who wouldn't want to spoil the surprises too much. He'll just say that it's well worth the effort, and if you're truly adventurous you can even experiment with rehydration. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Actually, all the horses are ridden by those same small bands of adventurers, which are just as likely to be composed of sliths or nephils as humans. The vahnatai and humans also have disproportionate numbers of instant-death nodes/scripts, which gives them an undeniable edge. —Alorael, who is sure some enterprising mage could find a way to create a mobile death script. Then let other races beware! Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

For those who are confused, the Xian Skull topic started with an innocent question about the object by the same name. The first answer was filled with lies. More lies followed. From that humble beginning was born a thread containing hundreds of posts, thousands of lies, and the usual arguments and disagreements. ?Alorael, who gives credit to everyone who created a new Xian object for the topic. Half credit if it was a really stupid object. Double credit if it caused some innocent newbie to become helplessly befuddled. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

And a Berliner for dessert? Sure. ?Alorael, who has nothing against consuming meat. He isn't a huge fan of it, but not for ethical reasons. If God hadn't wanted humans to eat meat, He wouldn't have had them evolve canines. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Just so you know, Valley of Dying Things and Za-Khazi Run are widely regarded as terrible, especially the latter. A Mild Rebellion is okay, but nothing special. Diplomacy with the Dead isn't in BoE, but it's still not so great. Don't judge BoA by the existing scenarios, because they're nowhere close to the full potential of the game and the editor. Even if Avernum's story is over, at least officially, and nobody produces any good scenarios set in Avernum, is that so bad? If the game didn't have the word "Avernum" in the title, you would be able to enjoy the engine and immense, intricate scenarios set anywhere the designer likes. Give those designers some time. One day, the next Alcritas will finish his scenario. When that day comes, you will either eat your words or be officially declared a person of questionable plot and gameplay judgement. ?Alorael, who would like to add his voice to the "buy BoE" urgings. See what can be done with Spiderweb's tools before you declare everything made with them inferior to Spiderweb's works. Even if you disagree (you person of questionable judgement!), you'll be entertained for hours and hours and hours. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I've had a bad experience with Earthlink and worse experiences with Comcast and Verizon. All three of them said that service would begin in a few months, but when the date rolled around there were always problems. Verizon and Comcast then tried to claim that I was not living in an area they covered. After months of frustration with the two of them (first Comcast, then Verizon), I switched to Earthlink. They put me through the same rigamarole, except it took only three months and in the end it worked. Now that I'm hooked up, things are fine. I've had only one lapse of service and it was resolved within hours. It's possible that the other providers are just as good, but I couldn't get them to provide. ?Alorael, who has a little bit of bitterness about the whole thing. Or couldn't you tell? On the bright side, Verizon sent him no fewer than three modems and then denied that the extras had been shipped. As long as they weren't complaining, he decided they make nice doorstops. Seriously. That's what he uses them for. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

There's no way to make a scenario do that, but you can make duplicates of items you have in a scenario. That means that you could go into the scenario, pick them up, leave, and get second copies of them (and third copies, etc.), but to be honest you'd have to delete the items from your storage scenario after retrieving them with your party. —Alorael, who doesn't know any way to have a scenario rewrite itself. If you can program that, you can make a scenario that works as storage without further coding intervention. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

¡Bienvenido a Spiderweb! Tenga miedo. Tenga mucho miedo. Es bueno que su inglés es mejor que mi español, porque mi español es peor que las mentes de unas personas aquí. Actually seeing the complex rituals behind spellcasting would cause your brain to explode. Or it would cause Jeff's patience to explode.
