The jury is split. You can find good swords sooner than you'll find good spears, but by the end it's even, more or less. The spears will do a little bit more damage and the swords are probably a little bit better in non-damage bonuses. —Alorael, who prefers sword and shield. The damage difference isn't huge, and the stat bonuses from swords and shields more than make up for it. On the other hand, being able to use the Jade Halberd and the Oozing Sword means you will have a lot of acid working for you. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I've never been accused of looking like Harry Potter. My most recent comparisons have been to Darth Vader, usually with a hasty explanation that they mean the Darth Vader in the newer Star Wars movies, not the old ones. —Alorael, who is either more asthmatic and, er, metallic than he thought or a terrible actor. Neither one is something to write home about. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

The rationale for the spell as is could be that the mage magically unlocks the door and better understanding of locks means the mage can unlock more complicated contraptions magically. —Alorael, who finished his first game of A4 quite happily with two mages that had no Tool Use and one fighter with Tool Use in the upper teens (and Nimble Fingers). One thing that helps is giving all the Knowledge Brews and Wisdom Crystals you find to the lockpicker so that it doesn't fall behind in combat skills. The computer can be left on, but it can't be used. Or, depending on who you ask, it can be used but only if you can do it without touching the mouse or keybaord. —Alorael, who is glad that he is a rather lapsed Jew. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Also in E3/A3 if you press the right F keys. —Alorael, who will have to go through Nethergate even more exhaustively. Hopefully the easter egg isn't subtle, because there's a reasonable amount of humor based on anachronism and non sequitur that's just part of the joys of Shadowvale. I think the more appropriate variation on that song, courtesy of ISIHAC, would be [bzzz] on [bzzz] and [bzzz] on [bzzz] [bzzz] [bzzz] [bzzz] and warm [bzzz] [bzzz] [bzzz] [bzzz] [bzzz] tied up with strings These are a few of my favorite things —Alorael, who likes skribbane and sniping, preferably simultaneously. That works as a decent character editor example, but you can't make it, we can't make it, and Jeff won't make it, so it doesn't do anyone any good. The existing editor is cross-platform, simple, functional, and easy expanded. It's good enouugh. —Alorael, who can conceive of selectively deleting characters and using cheats to instantly remake your party into whatever you want down to the traits. No, it's not fun, and it might lose you some of the bonuses, but it would work. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I was happy with the creation of Exile. I was happy with the creation of Nethergate. I was happy with the creation of Geneforge. The engine and I don't get along but the plot seems solid. Really, I think Jeff has shown that he can create good universes. I feel safe leaving it up to him. —Alorael, who is in a happy with creation mood. There's a gate in the farmhouse, and yes, you just need to head west past where you end up in Almaria to get back into the tunnels until you can get out north of the city. If you've tried killing the shades, you will have noticed that it doesn't work. Don't worry, all will be explained eventually. —Alorael, who has one more piece of advice, just in case: don't pick up any strange crystal boxes before you reach the Castle. Sonny, I've been making pedestrians die since before they invented the dramatic dying monologue. In my day we didn't just threaten people with death, oh no. We had to by God pay for each threat we delivered, and they were mighty pricey, let me tell you! $7.55 each! Now, that may not sound like much these days, but back then we had to hunt down each wild penny, and many a good man was lost to huntings packs of loose change. Grumble grumble. —Alorael, who won't take any sass from whippersnappers that think they're better than they're elders. No respect, that's the problem now. Nobody has proper respect. Gameplay is important, and Spiderweb games are always solid but not necessarily stunning there. Plot and atmosphere are important too, though, and that's where the results have been a little more questionable. —Alorael, who has been satisfied overall. He's still playing the games, after all, and that's the real test. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Ed, you're missing the forest for the trees. This specific thread of a tree. This just may be the conspiracy of conspiracies! —Alorael, who is willing to be an Obeyer for the sake of argument. Yes, but they usually say it in fewer posts. —Alorael, who considers tech support the proper place for technical questions. If the software won't run or you get error messages, it's a tech problem. If everything works but it seems like things were designed wrong, it's a game question. The borders are a little blurry, though. There's no point in asking if a topic should be moved unless it's obviously misplaced. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Ash was banned and tempers ran high. That led to another banning that really can be blamed on the proverbial straw. Then a third member decided that peer pressure demanded that he, too, seek banning. The Cannings are unremarkable except for the timing. I think enough people have enough to say about these tumultous times that others saw the volume and missed the contents. —Alorael, who agrees that Spiderweb is a bit frantic right now. It may even be worse than the General mod elections, but it's nothing compared to Misc. mod elections at its worst or other great conspiracies of yore.
