Had that been a real page I would've been much more concerned. However, as it stands I don't think they'll be able to muster enough support to bring about another draft.

Script question in Blades of Avernum

Rather than editing their stats, you could set a flag so that in certain situations the game responds differently based on the value of that flag. Then you wouldn't have to deal with all the scripting. The problem will be in forcing them to use the weapons you gave them.

Perhaps this would've been better handled with an e-mail to spidweb. I doubt most members know what you are talking about. I myself just found out a few minutes ago. Although I would rather not have it repeated here.

The news had spread quickly when Sullust had conquered the river from the Kylenian forces. News of his death spread even faster. While fighting off the remaining Kylenians in Ironclad territory he had found himself surrounded by a large populist militia. He couldn't believe that some of his own people would join such a sort.

Instead of drawing their weaponry, a single member of the Populist group tossed a small glass jar into the center of Sullust's men. It shattered upon striking the ground, causing the chemicals inside to mix. Surrounded by his own men, Sullust couldn't move fast enough to escape the poisonous gas that was forming from the mixture. He and a few others surrounding the container died instantly. Those who survived were taken prisoner.

OOC: Word travels slowly, Sullust hasn't heard yet :P . Why didn't the bowmen shoot the crossbow men first? They have a larger range.

After his recent victory Sullust found the troops of Lord Dekker's fortress much more willing to join him. He left towards the East with more than have of them men originally stationed in the compound. With the northern river secured he intended to 'purge' the Ironclad lands of the Kylenian forces.

Sullust headed towards the center of the river, with the doomguard following. Strangely they seemed unnoticed an remained unscathed on their journey. When he finally reached the center of the river he let out a yell, "Come out you Kylenian dogs and fight like men!"
Instantly the nearby brush seemed to come alive as Kylenians seemed to suddenly appear from nothing. As they readied their bows time seemed to stop flowing and the dark mage once again appeared.
~~
"I have come to collect my bounty Sullust."
"But you promised me that I would be able to take the river!"
"Do not misread my words. I merely promised you the man power to do it. It seems to me that you are at the river. Now it is my turn to collect my payment." With a snap of his fingers the doomguard shattered into its components. "You didn't think that was real did you? I would never trust someone as yourself with such an artifact. Now for my payment. It shall be my reward to watch you die."
~~
As he finished his words the wizard slowly faded away and time began moving as it did before. The Kylenians finished loading their bows and each took aim at Sullust. He remained motionless as one of the Kylenians walked out towards him.
"I shall give you an option. You can either surrender to us and perhaps live, or die here today. What is your choice?"
"I surrender."
The man walked closer to shackle Sullust's wrists, but was unaware of what he had planned. When the Kylenian was finally within striking distance Sullust grabbed him and held a knife to his throat. Using his other hand he grabbed a small crossbow and fire a canister into the air. It exploded and lit the sky ablaze. He then whispered into the soldiers ear, "If I die here today it will be a death of honor. I will never surrender to your kind."
With that all of the archers simultaneously released their arrows. Each of them found a mark, within the body of the poor Kylenian soldiers as Sullust ducked under the surface. When he resurfaced Sullust stood proud of what he saw. On both sides of the river his men had pushed through and begun battling with the Kylenians. They had a chance to take this river yet. As he charged onward into the melee he heard the voice of the mage in his head.

Mark my words Sullust, I will see you die before this war is over.
~~
The battle finally ended a few hours later. It was a phyrric victory for Sullust and his men, but they had managed to do the impossible. Now it was the Kylenians who were split off.

As dawn broke a strange, cloaked figure approached Sullust's camp. Even with the morning sunlight there seemed to be an unaltered darkness in the hood. As he drew closer only the sparkle of his eyes was reflected by the light.
"Who goes there?" One of Sullust's companions asked.
"I have not come to talk with you. In fact, I think it would be best for you to be silent." With those words suddenly the mouth of the soldier disappeared. Sullust raised his sword in horror, only to find it dissolve in his own hands.
"I have not come to trade blows with you. That is a competition which would certainly lead to your doom. Rather, I have an offer."
"Why should I trust you?"
"My dear man, you have no choice. Now will you hear my offer?"
"Out with it."
"What if I told you that I could get you all the men you required to retake the river to the north?"
"I have already been refused from the Fortress of Lord Dekker. There is no other reasonably sized army in this region."
"I know of a creation greater than most armies. From its own wounds it creates itself anew. For a reasonable price I could create such a creature for you."
"A reasonable price? How could we be able to help you get anything?"
"There are some things even beyond my grasp. Are you willing to accept what I would ask of you should the time come?"
"Yes."
"Very well then. Our deal is complete." The mage snapped his fingers and instantly a dark, armorclad figure appeared. Its creator soon disappeared into the distance as strangely as he arrived.
"Well then men, get prepared. We shall ride into battle soon."

---

"Has he taken the bait?"
"Yes, the second doomguard has been positioned. Has the first been recovered yet?"
"There has been a slight miscalculation; however, I trust it will be in place when it is needed."
"Do you think they suspect anything?"
"Not at all."

Rather than spend anymore time arguing within the hierarchy of the Empire, Sullust went straight where he needed. He threw open the doors to the barracks.
"I come in here to ask all of you one simple question, who does this land belong to?"
"The Empire," one of the many soldiers replied.
"No, this land belongs to those who fought so hard to claim it. Soldiers just like yourselves poured their blood and sweat so that we might call this land our own. Do you consider this feat worthless? Are we to simply stand back and watch as our lands fall down before us?"
"Our Lord knows best."
"Does he? Then why in the north do they prepare for a war and yet here the nobles sit idle as if nothing is happening. I have seen the mighty Empire struggle against the Kylenians."
"We cannot go against the wishes of our Lord, to do so is a crime of treason."
"Treason?! I say that treason is allowing...no giving this treasure to our enemy! If we falter now, we might as well spit on the graves of our ancestors." After uttering those last few words Sullust stormed out of the fortress and made camp outside with his men.

Sullust spoke privately with the highest ranking of the surviving knights.

"I believe we can take this river if we can rally more support to the South. However, everyday the people grow more fearful of what is coming," Sullust told the horseman.
"What do you suggest we do? You saw what happened, the Kylenian guerillas slaughtered us. They should be afraid."
"Then let us give the Kylenians a reason to be afraid. Give me your steed."
"What?!"
"If I am to make it back across that river I will need to move swiftly. Their arrows are sharp and accurate as you well know now."
"How can I hope to return safely without it? Surely I will be an open target."
"These people aren't killers, they are merely protecting what they feel is theirs. They will allow you to leave unharmed. Take these other men with you as well. Perhaps they will help convince the Emperor to send more troops."
"How will we know when you are ready to lead the assault from the south?"
"You will know. Now go quickly you must prepare."

With that Sullust rode off on the steed. After finding a shallow place to cross he forded it as fast as he could. He made it out of the Kylenian lands safely. He only hoped that his companions managed to do the same.

Soon Sullust learned why he and his companions had encountered little resistance at the river. Remaining unseen behind a bush, he noticed several Kylenians preparing some sort fence. It was composed of a long shaft going across with several thicker shafts with sharp points perpendicular to it.
"It's a trap," one of his fellow soldiers whispered.
"That must mean that Ironclad is sending the cavalry down to secure the river. If these defenses aren't taken down the victory will not be worth it."
"There are only four of us, we can't possibly stop them from completing it."
"We don't need to; we only need to destroy their element of surprise."

As they approached the river bank no one heard the first bow string plucked; however, the arrow met its mark. Immediately one of the twenty fell dead to the ground. Suddenly another arrow pierced the air, just barely missing a soldier, and stuck solid in a nearby tree. As more and more arrows began to fly through the air, panic gripped the group.

They began running madly across the ground towards the river, seeking shelter amidsts the dark waters. Twelve more of them fell before even touching the damp soil on the edge of the river.

Sullust breathed in heavily and plunged into the cold water. He swam alone in the damp water with only the sound of arrows breaking the surface of the water to keep him company. He swam under the water for what seemed like hours and finally had to surface to get another breath. After taking a second long gasp for air he submerged again.

When he finally reached the other shore he found two of his companions waiting for him. A final one managed to land a few minutes later. The other side was strangely silent. They made their way through without a single attack. Finally, they were once again in Ironclad territory.

After waiting a few days without word from the main commander Sullust began to worry. If no one could break through the Kylenian front then they would be doomed. Rather than wait for death to come to him, Sullust convinced a few others to join him and headed for the river.

He hoped that the group would be small enough to remain unnoticed. However, they were ready for a fight if necessary. As the dim glow of the moon filled the skies they set out. The twenty soldiers set out to the north.

Sullust looked off into the distant and saw the faint glimmer of torches in the distance as night drew closer. He along with several other soldiers had been caught on the wrong side of the river during the uprising. Now a large contingent of the Kylenians stood between them and the main Iron Clad forces.
After considering the odds they were up against Sullust went back towards a nearby campfire. They couldn't do anything until a dispatch managed to pass across the river. They were alone, abandoned, and without orders.
