A butterfly, specifically, the atmospheric state generated by the flapping of said butterfly's wings.

Most of the time my thoughts are in English. There are rare outbursts, however, where I will think of a Latin phrase.

You can't possibly expect that to qualify as proof...

EDIT: Also, I think Occam's Razor is being used a bit too loosely in the above posts.

That's not completely true. I believe someone named Godel gave a mathematical proof for the existence of God. I'll get around to buying the book eventually.

I wouldn't go quite as far to say that science is as bad as religion. However, you would be correct in saying that it doesn't follow as rigorous a structure as Mathematics. :P

I find the concept of Pre-Emptive CoC enforcement very troubling...

On with the topic, Rothko's Number 15 says "15".

At best this quantity would be extremely difficult to measure. This value is certainly not constant, thus introducing a large level of complexity into the equation.

So essentially what we've got here is that in order to become an oldbie, a newbie must 'cross' a hyper-plane. However, nobody knows the exact location of said hyper-plane. Good luck!

EDIT: In response to the previous post. It is quite unweildy to have all the oldbies decide. Rather a council of the oldest oldbie's should make such decisions. However, I see this failing miserably...

That gives me another variable that should be included

q = 1 if member has a custom title, 0 otherwise.

With enough information this function does have the possibility to determine a value for F[X] s.t. if F[X] > k, then the member who is represented by that set of values is an oldbie.

How convenient, but that date will not do at all.
Instead, I propose this,

Let X be the vector of the following quantities,
t = Function of Years in Community
u = Function of Post Count
v = Function of Member Number
w = Function of Scenarios Designed
x = 1 if member was a moderator, 0 otherwise
y = 1 if member was an admin, 0 otherwise
z = 1 if Jeff Vogel, 0 otherwise

Set
F[X] = at+bu+cv+dw+ex+fy+gz
where a,b,c,d,e,f,g are real constants.

Now all that is required is for a few members to send me their respective values for these numbers. Preferably in PM's as there is no reason to post so much information.

Which points on the flaws in such a system. There are several members between 1 and 1000 who have contributed almost nothing.

EDIT: The idea of some sort of formula which waits various measurable quantities of a member to determine their status has popped into my head. Some of these variables are quite clear (Post Count, Member Number, Years in the Community). However, their relation to the whole is something to be determined. I.E. {(Years)^1.5 or (Years)^2}

I was thinking more like a stamp in the profile. Sort of like the under 21 thing on licenses.

"Under 21 until MM/DD/YYYY"
"Newbie until MM/DD/YYYY"
