Let's blow up the forum in the name of the Lord! (by which I mean "Gimme one too!")

And, for anyone interested, here is the history of the first US Avatar Conflict in 2003.

Someone posted a Fourth of July topic. (this one is less important, but it should still be included). David posted another such topic, this one being bound to ruffle more feathers because he mentioned the word "anti-american" at a time when the Iraq invasion was not yet four months old. And indeed, it became quite heated. It was possibly one of the key reasons for the the first US Conflict Avatars topic by Djur. That one was flooded by Motrax, resulting in a flame fest. It eventually got nuked from orbit by Schrodinger, resulting in TM posting "US Conflict Avatars continued". This topic also became fiery. Eventually, we all made up and ate cake together. The End.

In conclusion, the only positive aspect of it all was that we hopefully learned something from this - both about history and about behavior.

I'm a big John Quincy Adams fan. And was Canada really "very nearly" annexed? Anyway, uh, I guess I'm in.

I'm in.

If requests are accepted, can I have either Israel or WWII (holocaust)?

I'm up for in.

But, I wish to comment on an earlier post too...

...US has not actually fought any war directly with Canada
.

While this is technically true as Canada did not exist as a nation during the War of 1812, much of the defense of Canada against American invasion was provided by Canadian Militia and the war served to unite Canada and is an important event in the Canadian psyche (a watershed moment if you will).

Fatman, this is not your topic. If you wish to spam in celebration of your postcount, could you please start a new topic in the future?

I didn't realize we actually stayed on target on any one of these boards. So Sorry. In reviewing how others made their announcements I guess I didn't pick up on the fact that they all started brand new threads to do the announcing. How could I have overlooked that?

Well, there is a difference between posting one small celebratory picture in a thread, which helps reduce clutterful topics, and posting four big ones, which makes that entire page of the thread really obnoxious for people with slow net connections.

I also imagine the most of us are inclined to be more sympathetic to someone celebrating 1000 posts than 100.

I believe I issued an apology. Now that we have wasted four posts on this rather than ignoring the error and moving on, shall we move on.

I beleive that's dependant on the others as well. If only one member of a group wishes to progress, he may end up progressing alone. No matter how much he wishes, he cannot make the others progress against their will.

A C, an E-flat, and a G walk into the Tower of the Magi.
Ambrin walks up to them and says, "Hey! It's the Triad!"
Kelner snorts and says, "Pretty minor Triad if you ask me."

I take the American Revolution, in which thirteen colonies rebelled against their rightful king, shed blood to cut taxes, and called it all patriotism.

I have always found it interesting that the two wars which have done the most to shape American culture were a successful war of independence and a failed one.
