He did his best, don't patronize him because English isn't his first language. If you're level only level 12, you should find other areas to explore before tackling the Icewalls, etc. By the time the demo ended I was level 11, so you shouldn't have a hard time finding other areas. Start from Pentil and head east. Don't cross the bridges, and don't go too far to the North. Posts: 1233 | Registered: Wednesday, October 3 2001 07:00 |

Terror's usefulness is reduced because it only effects one target (right?). I never use special summoning spells or summon aid(Most useless spell hands down). Create Illusions, Slow, War Blessing, and Heal will probably win most fights in the game though. TM scenarios and possibly a few others are the only exceptions. Arcane Blow is nice, but I've never actually used it in a real scenario. Too high of an SP cost for dungeons, and my parties rarely get to a high enough level to use it properly. I included Cloud of Blades as useful, even though I hate using it. The spell is either completely useless or extremely useful. Jeff should have created a set damage, rather than based the damage off of a percentage of total HP. Also, we need more area of effect spells. Sluggish has got to be the worst trait you can give. I prefer Brittle Bones for my non melees. Non melee characters shouldn't be hit with a physical attack more than once in a fight anyway. Here's an interesting character concept: Nephilim: Divinely Touched, Completely Inept. Give a few points in defense and thrown missile, then go buck wild and put all points into dexterity and some in endurance (to counter magical spells). Your nephilim will end up almost impossible to hit with physical attacks, rendering him a better tank than you could make with a high HP warrior. Also, if you give this Nephilim luck and lifesaving items, he'll probably never die. Edit: The only time he'd probably have trouble is in TM scenarios during boss fights. You forget, that information is from a servile. If you give one an inch and it'll take a mile. That one is obviously dilusional from too many rations and a lack of authority. I feel that some of these suggestions could make this game much more appealing to a wider audience, but some of these feel like they'd only affect a powergamer's or a torment player's opinion. As for the increased HP of battle creations: maybe a little, just for torment's sakes. It's really dumb that some fire creations have more HP than battle creations. However, an increase in health points could severely unbalance the game in battle creations favor, especially with the new 1 AP attack system. Maybe changing the AP cost for ranged attacks back to 3 would help. It would make the fragile ranged creations much more susceptible to stun than battle creations. I'd also like to see more diversity in creations. There should be benefits for using any type of creation, not just the creation with the strongest attack power. A more complex stat growth system would probably help there. As always, I'd like to see an option for customizing the color of your creations. (Heck, the ability could be added as an easter egg canister) PINK THAHDS PLZ!!! Edit: In G1 my higher level Battle Beta was trumped in melee by a Drayk. This should never happen. Ever. I'm not going to lie, creature scripts are by the far the most complicated of all the scripts in BoA. It took me around 3-4 hours yesterday of mind raping to figure out how to categorize nearby enemy units. After barking up the wrong tree by trying to distinguish between nearby enemy units, I realized that if I used a 'while' statement on every possible unit in a town, I could check on whether or not they were close to the character AND THEN categorize them. It was a painful experience. Unfortunately, although this script seems to work in theory, my NPCs no longer want to attack anything. EDIT: This is the product of a three hour mind rape. Please either bask in it's glory or tell me why it isn't working the way it should. I should mention that this script basically says: (DURING START_STATE) at the beginning of each turn, find the STRONGEST (most hp) nearby enemy and set him to be your target. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of experience with creature scripts. I can do some basic stuff with them, but I have yet to successfully make a complex one. It would probably be best to let more experienced designers refine the system. For now, I'm just going to focus on simple combat orders and leveling up. The biggest difficulty I forsee in the future is making competent enemy AI. Posts: 1233 | Registered: Wednesday, October 3 2001 07:00 |

I'm planning a scenario that involves commanding a group of units that aren't part of your party. After looking through the lists of calls, I realized that this sort of scenario isn't implausible as you can, using carefully crafted scripts and SDFs, imitate level ups in NPCs as well as change their held equipment. I'm imagining an Ogre Battle 64 like gameplay, because it's probably impossible to gain complete control of the NPCs. By this, I mean that you choose how each NPC or group of NPCs attack each round, though you can't actually "control" them. For instance you can give "Group 1" the order to "Attack Strongest," meaning they would each target the enemy with the most current HP, or you could order them to "Attack Leader," meaning they would go for the "leader." Some of you might be skeptical and have probably not played Ogre Battle 64, but the system of combat offers a complete range of control and is actually preferable to the tedious point and click. I hope to get a test version of this ready to see if it works. Posts: 1233 | Registered: Wednesday, October 3 2001 07:00 |
