The results for the 8th Scenario Contest are going to be up today - so I'm going to go ahead and start it.

This contest is open to both Blades of Exile and Blades of Avernum. Submissions should be e-mailed to box1_10_2@yahoo.com[/url]. The deadline for this 1/10 Contest is April 15, 2007, 11:59 EST.

The rules have been discussed before: Scenarios may have no more than 1 outdoor section and 10 towns, editor definition. Your scenario may have less than this, but your scenario may not have more. You may do whatever you want as long as they fit into the limits. Unused towns and outdoor sections do not count towards the limit.

Judging will be done by ranking from best to worst, and I will total up the rankings, lowest score wins. Tie breaking will be done by which scenario more people prefer. (I'm not decided on what to do in case of an even number for both.) There is no special criteria for judging, it is just which scenario is the best. The only exception is judges may not favor BoE over BoA or vice versa.

I'll start collecting judges early in March. I may change my mind, but if there are entries from both, I will most likely require judges to own both BoE and BoA. The amount of time I will allow will depend on the number of submissions into the contest. Scenarios entered in this contest will be elgible for the 9th Scenario Design Contest when it comes.

Also, for those of you who plan to do a BoE scenario, please do not password entries. I want to check in the scenario editor that your scenario is elgible.

Other than that, get started, enjoy, and I await your entries!

Uh... what's a zone? Is it just a town?

Yes, zones are towns. They're called that to avoid ambiguity to the definition of 'town.'

He means an editor-town, which is not an ambiguous term. One could argue that Zaskiva is just one town in ASR, even though it is two editor-towns.

"Zone," on the other hand, normally refers to a category that includes both outdoor sections and towns, which probably makes it far worse to use in this context.

I don't believe it was bought up before, but do VTE count as one zone each?

Even after making a VTE, splitting one town in two, and making a couple towns where only one or NPCs are, I should still be under the ten town limit. :P

Barring a disaster, I should be in.

A town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a town is a freaking town.

I'm not sure how much clearer we can make this. If they're two separate towns in the scenario editor, they're two towns. Even if they're alternate versions of the same town. Even if they're practically identical. Hell, even if they're completely identical.

The highest town number you get to in the editor is all that matters.

Delightful, Thuryl.

The reason I asked (since I already know what a town is) is because in the last contest VTE counted as half zones.

So surely, all you needed to say is "they count as one each."

Typically zones refer to outdoor sections plus towns. I think no more than 10 editor towns is more appropriate here.

I'm sure you know this, but I forgot to mention in the official rules that scenarios entered in a previous contest, whether it be an annual contest, the first 1/10 contest, the DFTS contest, etc. are not elgible to compete.

In this post I will bring up, once again, the issue of the dreaded town limit. If you are Thuryl, or are allergic to repetition, then please do not read on.

OK, I know, I know. A town is a town. 10 = 10. 10 != 11. Well this question is different. I'm going to wind up, technically, with 11 towns. However, the very first town is blank, since I don't think I'm going to need a medium town.

So am I in the clear, or do I need to start pitching a fit?

As long as you can't access that town in any way, you're fine.

Also, I'd recommend having your entry ready for beta in about a month so you have enough time to have it tested before the deadline.

(Sorry for the double post, just want to make sure everyone sees the announcement.)

When you say month, do you mean by the start of March or by the 12th?

Not that it matters much to me... Mine is probably coming in as just heavily alpha tested. I don't think I'll have time before the contest to have it beta tested.

I'm talking around the 12th. Short scenarios like these shouldn't take *too* long to beta test.

*BUMP*

One month left! I'll say you should have your scenario finished and to your beta testers around the 12th-16th.
