My technique for this is to go into the editor, raise the level, go back and see if I can now learn the spell and keep raising it until I can, then revert to the original game and go out and get enough points to raise my level to what is needed.

Clumsy, but it works and is not really cheating--although reasonable minds could disagree about that.

I got Thompson on my side by going through again the steps to finding him, i.e., talking to the mages in Blosk and Fort Remote.

Maybe that would work for your problem also.

I did something similar with the editor and although I can get back to Thompson he is now my enemy and even resetting hostile towns doesns't seem to eliminate his anger.

You need to kill her to get into the room. There's not much there.

I'm trying to find the passage to the raised area where the Formarians are under Galag Trav but I can't find it. I've gotten the fury helm and I found a secret passage going west in the northern most area but it leads to a locked door.

Any hints out there?

With regard to offing the unbound, doesn't the ray gizmo in the south center have something to do with defeating it?

I've thoroughly cleared out the breeding pits except for the unbound one. At that point, about three weeks agao, I dropped the game and did my taxes.

Any suggestions on how to defeat him? (her?)

I've explored this and really found nothing other than a grumpy drakon chained up. Am I missing something? I can't get into any of the rooms that are locked. I'm a 4-star rebel.

I'm up near Northforge and have a quest that involves a cave in Frostwood. But I can't find it. I'm supposed to go west from the drakon's village and then south before the gates. But that appears to put me in the Northforge, where I am once more supposed to bicker with the drakons.

I love the snow by the way. I'm still looking to buy skis up in the mountains and take a vacation from the questing.

Are repeated bombardments of wrack and essence shackles cumulative, or am I wasting my time tossing these things more than once?

He's the only one of the three guardians I haven't gotten rid of yet, but I have killed off all of those immobile minds. Shaftoe, however, slaughters me with these energy explosions.

Am I missing something here?

I'm downstairs with the Monarch. I've learned about his control baton from that other lapsed shaper, but that's it. I don't have my own baton or anything like that. He and his creations seem to be slaughtering me.

Am I missing something here?

BTW, I'm a rebel with stakovite leanings, but I'm also trying to form my own splinter party in the area. I figure I can get at least a few votes in the Illyra parliament.

I'm wrapping up a re-play of the three Avernum games also. Anyone out there know which game uses the most keys as special items?

The Best Weapons in Avernum 4

When I played through a second time in torment, I found the shockwave bow by far the most useful weapon since it disabled the villans by stunning them, making it impossible for them to hit back while the rest of the party hacked away. And you don't need much archery skill to use it.

If spiderweb is going to rebalance the game in the future, I would recommend making the shockwave bow a little less effective.

What does Kelner have to do with Patrick's Tower? in Avernum 4

I believe that there is a mistake in the description of the two keys in the listing of special items. The reference to Patrick's Tower is meant to be the Tower Colony. Perhaps this could be fixed in some future version.

I did think like Jeff's wife and others that the end of G3 was too difficult to really enjoy. But the two climactic fights of A4 were perfectly balanced. Perhaps its inherent in the difference between the turn-based games and the real time of the Genforge series.

Thank you all for your help. I used the cheat code to go back to Ft Mon. I do see why I ended up in a situation of ending the game before dealing with Dorikas. I took a wrong turn in the Remote Lands--and went up to R-I's fort, rather than to the Darkside folks hideout. So I'm not sure the game is strictly linear.

But....I finished. The fights with R-I and Dorikas are definitely the most tactically challenging in all the games from E1 onward.

Well I mean I got congratulated and everything but I thought that the game was going to continue and it didn't. And I so much wanted to see how the new owners had redone Erica's living room and what their paint scheme was! Erica, as you remember, had to keep the shades drawn so she had only very bright colors inside.

Well I defeated R-I figuring that my next step would be going across the river to look at Erica's old house and get rid of those bandits and Dorikas. But the game ended! My last save before the keep is back at the Giant area east of one of the Abyss towns.

I assume that they turn off the machine downstairs that produces the golems but I could not shut them off either.

That Vahnati Lord in the basement is a drag also.

My group is hungry and wants to go home but it looks like I have to hack my way out of the fortress since to go back means those horrible pylons again.

Somehow I got into a fight with the Vahnati just to the west of Fort Remote. Anything I can do to get them to come back? Apologizing does not seem to help. I don't have a saved version that I could resurrect.

Thanks all. It could be that the effectiveness of acid against the undead is a bug that Jeff might want to change. Overall in the game, acid appears to work when other things don't.

I have found the adventurer near Mertis who neutralizes the undead in the Spiral so that you can apparently find out what is behind the undead (who can all be killed easily BTW by soaking them with acid). So I go back to the Spiral but I am a piercing crystal short. Is there an alternative to get the barriers out of the way?
