...

In that case you might want to play Gf4 first. The first FAQ that comes out shortly after the game is always appreciated, but if you wait several months your FAQ will have to compete for attention with Schrodinger's, which might be somewhat tough for your first effort.

Talking about staying away to avoid spoilers, please don't include spoilers in thread titles. (For example "What did you think about [important character]'s death?" could be a spoiler even to people who just look at the forum's main page.)

Nioca, saying "leave your sanity at the door" to somebody who said that he hopes these boards aren't too childish might not be a good idea.

PS About walkthroughs, all of Schrodinger's are very thorough. The old Exile ones less so.

Looks like the gender of people here does change by the hour. An average spiderwebber is now a 20 year old (38%) male (87%) single (74%) bored (32%) atheist (32%). I wonder why girls usually reply to these things faster than guys. (Whenever we have a survey like this, gender ratio goes towards more male with time.)

The problem with retribution edits is that it gives spammers the attention they crave, as illustrated by Mr. Ego right after you've made the edit threat in the stats thread.

As for Alec's suggestion to bully all "undesirables" away from these boards, I have only one thing to say:

I guess some people object to bullying only when it is directed against them, but have no problem bullying those who sully "their" turf.

This month we've had one of the smallest ever fractions of new members staying to post at least one post. I'll leave it up to you to decide whether the spamming spree was responsible.

PS The problem with most definitions of spam suggested in this thread is that they assume that most posts before this month had been useful. My definition of useful posting is: will the post will be useful to at least 2 people and/or interesting/amusing to at least 5 people? If the answer is no to both parts, it's spam. (A post in game boards that answers somebody's question can still be useful, but an extended conversation should probably be taken to PMs.) But that's just my personal definition.

But don't worry, you'll be quickly resurrected ... only to die an even more emberrasing death.

Well, people did complain about lack of permanent deaths. And with Ephesos dead and Zorro part of the party that's in big trouble, all resurrection methods might be eliminated very soon. (I am conveniently forgetting that some mage (Zephir?) managed to resurrect Ur-Noob without Zorro's help in the end of Episode 2. However, we'd still have to find yet another copy of Galactic Core for that method to work.)

But then again the primary reason is still probably that the royals and ents here are also grammar Nazis.

Grammatically correct way to start your second sentence would be either "Might it have something to do with [the fact] that Jeff's games involve..." or "Might it have something to do with Jeff's games' inclusion of..." :P

More seriously, you are probably right that the nature of the games has a large impact on the litaracy of the forum populations. This effect might be related to nature of the game as much as to the amount of text involved. (Civilization 4 forums have much more literate population than Runescape forums, despite relatively low text volume in both games.)

EDIT: Thuryl caught me before I fixed that mistake. :( :) I guess I should use "preview post", instead of posting, reading, and editing.

I don't feel about snow. or feel among snow, or feel snow, period. It seldom snows here. I HAVE felt snow, and found it to be cold. Feeling it too long, in small quantities, makes it magically transform itself into water.

Jewls is probably talking about ongoing fan-fanfic story that currently includes a snowstorm, a monster plague, and, as usual, accurate portrayals of most active members.

Coming up with amuzing questions is the hard part, and you can help with that even if you can't think of enough answer options. I can coordinate this if enough people are sufficiently interested. (1 person making the entire quiz can work just as well as 50 people sending in a question each, but I doubt either extreme will really happen.)

That board contains all sorts of equipment and medicinal supplies, so it sounds like a perfect place to prepare some evil trap that will backfire, killing half the people in General.

PS Since monster plagues tend to come in groups, I wouldn't be surprised if somebody ends up resurrecting Ur-Noob again. Tyranicus can't be the only character who has revolving door into afterlife. :P

So now I can register A4 just to return it the next day. :P

More seriously, this is a very customer-friendly move for a software company. I am tempted to buy some Spidweb game just to support the company that is willing to offer money-back guarantee. Exile trilogy is now only 25$, so it might finally be time to get that CD. I might do it when/if registering Gf4.

Sounds like a fun idea. The results would be relatively easy, but coming up with several dozen amusing questions might be harder. Any volunteers?

You witnessed the first post race, right? What are the rules? And who was first to Guru?

That race took place on Misc, which was the official spam board and was deleted in about a year because of exessive spamming. I had to check Web Archive for dates and numbers, so the dates of reaching 1000 posts might be off by about a week. (I have to look at post counts on dates pages were archived and didn't want to spend whole day digging for precise numbers.)

First person to 1000 posts was Alorael, who had made about 1400 posts in about 3 months. That's less than 500 posts per month. Next were Morgan, Drakefyre, and Saunders, all with about 1000 posts after 4.5 - 5 months. So that's about 210 posts per month. I don't remember (and couldn't find) who was the fifth person among first 5 people to reach 1000 posts.

This means that even during that legendary spamfest, at the time when boards were much more active (with more discussion on game boards) and had an official spam board, top posters were posting less than the top posters this month.
