I fail to see what the problem is in the types of quests. After all, I can't think of a situation in life that isn't people orientated, object orientated or place orientated. You're giving yourself fairly wide variables there. It's all a matter of what you bring to the table - there will always be room for imagination and originality in any medium, be it literature, life or computer gaming. That said, many RPGs are becoming infuriatingly repetitive, but I'm not sure whether that has more to do with the quests or the medieval fantasy background that most of them are set within. The gist I got from your line of argument, Drakey, is that since Americans commit similar atrocities, it is ok for the Israelis to do the same. Actually, I'm not sure I want to argue this again. While I disagree strongly with Drakey's opinions on the Israel/Palestine issue, we've had the discussion before and never come to a resolution. I believe that since embryonic stem cell research is banned in the US, the scientists are having to resort to using stem cells from the nose. I hear it has something to do with curing spinal cord injuries. Posts: 2862 | Registered: Tuesday, October 2 2001 07:00 |

The problem with a one child policy in some countries is that it leads to a small young workforce that has to support a large elderly population. Posts: 2862 | Registered: Tuesday, October 2 2001 07:00 |

quote:I don't quite get your meaning in that sentence, but I'm guessing that you're saying that you don't approve of banning people from having more than one child. If so, what would you do in a situation such as there is in China? If China did not enact their one child policy, soon enough they would have had millions of people dying of famine, simply due to overpopulation. Which would you say is the lesser evil? People having fewer children, or famine? quote:That wasn't my problem with your post. My problem was you, quite unjustly, accusing someone of racism without any proof whatsoever. quote:Sure it does. Some of the greatest minds in history have been socially retarded. If you are going to screen diseases using genetics, why not select a predisposition to intelligence as a trait (providing you had the scientific capacity)? Surely you would consider it better to be intelligent than to be stupid. Posts: 2862 | Registered: Tuesday, October 2 2001 07:00 |

quote:That's twisting Thuryl's words so much it's unreal. Not once did he make any mention of Catholics or their likelihood to reproduce. And there is a correlation between intelligence and education, if not a very strong one. The only thing that prevents it from being a strong correlation is the inefficiency of the education system when it comes to working class children. quote:I'm very distrustful of the psychology behind the "many types of intelligence" theory. It's always appeared to me that it's simply a method that the education system uses to try and convince its pupils that they are all intellectually equal. As far as I'm concerned, you can fit most people's intelligence into either practical or academic. quote:I see no reason why, if we have the power to do so, we should not predispose children towards intelligence. quote:In China at least, that occured as a side effect of the one-child policy. In a society where boys are favoured over girls strongly, women were aborting their female babies and trying again for a boy. A population die-off, however, is exactly what is needed in places like China. It wouldn't be so much a die-off as a decrease in birth rate, which could only be a good thing. I think it has been articulated before that you are an idiot. Please check your political ideologies before you open your mouth again. Anarchism and communism are diametrically opposite to each other as political belief systems, in terms of how it has been interpreted on the modern political stage. A scroll is a one-time use of a spell - it does not make you learn the spell itself, you simply get the benefits of it for one time only. To use it, go to the inventory window (where the picture of your character is) and find the scroll in your inventory. Then click the sun like button on the bottom right-hand side of the item. Alot of this plot seems to be unnecessary filler - if it were ever to be used as a workable plot, it would need to be streamlined somewhat. Also, it seems fairly standard Avernum fare - no break from the traditional scenario structure. Posts: 2862 | Registered: Tuesday, October 2 2001 07:00 |

While an E grade may technically count as a pass, FBM, you know full well that it doesn't actually count for anything unless you get C or above. If you're going to follow those guidelines to pass rates, the only thing that isn't a pass is a U grade. More sensible people, of which Daily Mail readers do not count as, would generally agree that if you do not get one of the top four grades, it does not count. Don't talk rubbish, FBM. 30% of my year is not expected to get five A-C grades, and we're the best year the school has ever had. To say that the exams are nigh on impossible to fail makes me believe that you read the Daily Mail far, far too much. Posts: 2862 | Registered: Tuesday, October 2 2001 07:00 |
