The problem I have with Imagine is that it always gives me this overwhelming urge to commit genocide, something which I imagine is not the desired effect.

I will go with American Beauty still standing as my favourite movie, followed closely by Copenhagen. The 39 Steps and Citizen Kane are also up there pretty high.

I'm going to be away on holiday for the next few weeks, and as a result will most probably miss the second round of elections, yet would still like my vote to be counted.

So, presuming this is acceptable, I'd like to place my vote under the care of Drakefyre. Since, at this moment it's by no means certain that the current top three will get in, I will cast a preferential vote as follows.

Should Alec be in the final, my vote will go to him. Should he not, my vote will go to Stughalf, then Thuryl, then Arancayter.

Should none of the above four enter the final, I will abstain.

I'm something of a neophyte when it comes to the Beatles, having always preferred their contempoaries - The Who, the Stones, Velvet Underground et al, to them.

However, top five songs, in no particular order -

1. Helter Skelter
2. Dear Prudence
3. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
4. Taxman
5. She Said She Said

As may be apparent, my experience of the Beatles doesn't really extend much beyond Sgt Pepper, White Album and Revolver.

My condolences to Londoners. If I'd gone ahead with my travel plans, I would have been at King Cross Station (one of the underground stations affected by the blasts) on my way home from London at a similar time to the bombs going off. I consider myself very lucky to have avoided these awful events.

I'm almost certain that Pirates of Penzance can be done in a non operatic style - I've seen it done so quite effectively in a school production. After all, Gilbert and Sullivan only barely counts as opera in the first place.

Personally, I'd advise against Gilbert and Sullivan, partly because I'm biased against them but mostly because they've become something of a cliche in school productions. Do something a little more adventurous - the last production that my school did, for example, was an absurdly wonderful musical version of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

I play piano, though I haven't practiced in about a month. When I pick that up and get back to peak performance, I'm moderately good.

I used to play the violin, and the only electric violin I've ever seen was a six string monstrosity, which was having Voodoo Child played upon it. Quite a sight.

The only viable way to play an Agent is as a solo. I'll let either SoT or Vlish rant about why.

For the purposes of this mock election, in the real thing I'll probably vote a little more tactically.

Jumping on the endorsement band wagon, I'm going to throw my weight behind Alec. Mostly because I think he'd be the best choice, but at least partly as a way to ask Zeviz to cease his constant sagging.

By being such a rabid attack dog, you've only damaged your own campaign and reputation, Zeviz, and strengthening Alec's position inexorably, at least in my eyes.

I can't imagine that TM came much after me in the race to a 1000 - I seem to remember my posting spree was in response to TM being on something ridiculous like 997 posts, and me being in a mad dash to beat him.

My posting rate has dropped dramatically since then, mostly due to the constant exam season I seem to be enduring currently.

Ah, the good old days. In my defense, I will say that few of those posts were actually spam, at least comparitavely speaking. And now I'm down to as little as five posts in a month. I don't know whether to be proud or depresssed.

I've yet to see it, but my favourite review of it so far is - "It's certainly the best of the prequels, but that's not saying much, given that the Phantom Menace was amongst the worst films ever made, the Attack of the Clones was marginally better, but so was slamming your hand in a car door. Sith is still utterly terrible and is a testament to Lucas' inability to write or direct anything.."

It interests me that a newbie has made the most sense in an otherwise utterly senseless and useless topic.

And TM, to echo the sentiments of everyone else, quit being a prick.

To be brief.

On the Chris Cornell debate - yawn. Cornell's voice is accomplished, sure, but it's deathly dull. At least Cobain sang with conviction.

Biomass Future-- Will It Replace Oil in General

Yes, but an awful lot of oil is so damn hard to get hold of and separate from everything, that it's never going to be economically viable to harvest it.

On another note, I read a report a couple of weeks back written by an oil industry man, with no political allegiances, that said that oil production could peak as early as next year. We haven't got long.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to do that (precarious hot key set up on my Mac), but I suppose there's no real alternative.

Still, I think this is a problem that should be addressed.

Does Jeff just point blank refuse to cater for laptops?

I notice that for Geneforge 3 on a laptop, the command for Quicksave and the Mute button are the same (F3). This wouldn't be a problem is the command for Quicksave actually worked on a laptop, which it does not - it simply mutes whatever I happen to be listening to at the time.

I'll send this off as a bug report unless anybody can tell me if there's any way of solving this. My previous experience with Spiderweb is that Jeff makes it impossible to change the keys that you use for the game, for some odd reason.

Any clues?

Hallucinogens, I'm led to believe, are even more dramatic in this respect, although taking them whilst in a good mood can lead to unfortunate consequences such as attempting to fly.

For me at least, being drunk and being on hullucinogens are dramatically different. The former simply brings out happiness in me (as well as making me very clumsy), while the latter doesn't have much of an impact on my emotional state, just on my mental state. Maybe it varies from person to person.

The hang ups some people seem to have about drinking here I find hard to relate to. As far as I'm concerned, the only reason a binge drinking culture has emerged in the English speaking world (possibly excluding Australia - I don't know much about the drinking culture over there) is because of people starting drinking in large amounts when they're fourteen or fifteen rather than have a glass of wine with their parents over a meal when they're a little younger (as is the practice in continental Europe).

Of course there are some people who shouldn't drink. If you have a history of alcoholism in your family then it's probably not a good idea (though you should probably do it at least once to see how you react), nor is it a good idea if you tend to be a violent drunk. Those sorts of people are in the vast, vast minority though.
