After recently seeing the 'What books do you read?' topic i decided to make a 'what music do you listen to?' one. Feel free to share what music you're into and any albums you like.

I myself prefer the heavy/ hardcore metal bands like Slipknot, Mudvayne, System of a Down,Mushroomhead Metallica.. but i also like the classical/metal gothic style bands like Cradle of Filth, Tristania,Theatre of Tragedy and Nightwish.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.

I'm mostly a classic rock sort of chap- nothing too harsh or loud for me. I predominantly listen to stuff from the sixties and seventies. I adore the Beatles, as well as the solo material of the ex-Beatles, and also listen to groups like Chicago, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Simon & Garfunkel, and the like. I'll listen to some more modern stuff from time to time, but I find myself not enjoying it all nearly as much as I did when I was an alternative fan in the nineties.

Just as poWrrBot said, whatever sounds good. However, I do like a lot of folk music, funk, latin, of course the blues, CSNY, anything really. Ani DiFranco is a favorite, does anyone know who she is... anyone like her? I like a little of the classic rock, soft punk stuff, everyone at school plays it. Some of it sounds good, I just can't take too much, you should listen to those guys sing...

I have an idea. For us musicians out there, we should find some way to post our stuff it so everyone who wants to can listen. I don't know how though.. any ideas?

I enjoy Telemann, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi, and sundry others. All of them are dead and have been for some time.

Pieces by Carcassi and Kotkee are nice. I like most non-modern rock, and pop singers from before I was born, like Billy Joel.

I listen to rock- mostly classic rock, but newer stuff as well. The Beatles, the Who, the Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, Aerosmith, AC/DC, the Ataris, Billy Joel, the Goo Goo Dolls, Queen, the Darkness, and Ozzy Osbourne come to mind.
I also listen to They Might Be Giants and Nobuo Uematsu. And the Brothers Chaps, Missy Palmer, and Y-O-U, if they count.
There's some other bands that I listen to one or two songs, but I'm either not too familiar with their music in general or just don't like them other than a couple songs. Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jimi Hendrix Experience, KISS, and Bowling For Soup, among others.

I don't see what's so mellow about Pink Floyd, unless you're talking about exclusively the SB stuff.

My playlist is as diverse, confusing, and terrifying as I am. Artists represented range from Hector Berlioz to Ludacris to UB40, with just about everything in between.

The biggest, the baddest, and the fattest.

If by "classic rock" is meant "self-congratulatory pap."

Some bands I like and have liked for quite a while are Staind, Finger Eleven, Trapt, some Metallica, Skillet, and Chevelle. This last summer I started listening to some different music, though. Lately the only band I've really been listening to is Depeche Mode, and I'm planing on buying the Black Celebration and Violator CDs.

Nah. So long as you don't listen to Buxtehude, Ockeghem, Schoenberg, Honegger, Hindemith and Messiaen ...
I hear Alessandro Scarlatti's motets for cotralto right now. Voice from purgatory, heart-rending beautiful.

and Depeche Mode are cool. Specially "Music for the Masses".

Bach, Albeniz, Villa-Lobos, et al. Spanish romantic-era music, mostly.

Not another thread on this.

The only music I listen to is Cristian music on our van radio on the way to church or country on the bus. I don't even have a Walkmann. Unlucky, not really. ;)

Ben, you do realize that country and christian are one-in-the-same, correct? Pity all rock music is too ungodly for you to listen to. Why, it might spur you to hopping your hip and gyrating like a hedonistic colored!

Christian music and country music is one and the same? What the?

Switchfoot are a Christian band. P.O.D. as well. Lifehouse (Hanging by a Moment) and Stacie Orrico also come to mind as Christian artists who have become popular in the mainstream.

*please note, I'm not arguing the quality of their music here - Stacie Orrico bores me to death, for example - but they aren't country.*

I like U2 a lot, particularly their early stuff. I enjoy Evanescence tremendously, also Jars of Clay, Paul Colman Trio, Alabaster Box, and (this might surprise some people) Avril Lavigne. Linkin Park has some songs I love, but I haven't yet bought an album.

Christian music is Bach, Handel, Haydn, Schuetz, Scarlatti, Monteverdi, Palestrina - all their motets, choirs and sacred music.
^_^ If Ben listens to Christian music, his taste can't be so bad.
