For the record, I am an old married woman, and probably irrevocably straight. This is just a warning to keep the topic civil, please. -------------------- KazeArctica: Oh yes. KazeArctica: Oh YES Posts: 93 | Registered: Sunday, September 30 2001 22:00 |

You don't want to know. It is also spelled wrong. Should curiosity really rob you of good sense, ask Alorael who seems to know most things, especially esoteric ones. -------------------- KazeArctica: Oh yes. KazeArctica: Oh YES Posts: 93 | Registered: Sunday, September 30 2001 22:00 |

It seems a bit off topic now, but I am currently in Seattle, and will be for the next couple of days. My internet access is a bit irregular though. Anyway, I wave at you all in a friendly and gracious menner though: at least to anybody who can remember who I am. -------------------- KazeArctica: Oh yes. Yes, hallo to those returning! Plan B has no hope at all. We can't possibly get enough spaghetti ready at the right time. Please will everybody stop acting like spoilt kids? It's kind of ironic that the person decrying battle re-enactments calls himself General Custer, and also gets all hurt when ADoS yells back at him. ADoS, please do not be so touchy, ans Varelse, we know who you are and you should know better than fan the flames! -------------------- KazeArctica: Oh yes. I can understand why they might think it is evil, but not if they have actually read any of the books. The themes are things like the battle of good and evil, the importance of friendship and trust, staying true to oneself in the face of provocation, that who you are is defined by the chices you make much more than by who you are born. All those things seem perfectly compatible with Christian faith to me: the use of magic seems a device to allow a young protagonist the freedom to have these adventures in a modern setting. However I am a woolly liberal who likes fantasy and rpgs, so what do I know? -------------------- KazeArctica: Oh yes. KazeArctica: Oh YES Posts: 93 | Registered: Sunday, September 30 2001 22:00 |

The name change issue is an interesting one. Some people change occasionaly but recognisable to indicate a mood change, others quite frequently, maybe feeling they are well enough known to be recognised by their member number. Some start a new account to make a new start, and others to try to evade the disapproval that they had accrued with the old identity. There was a while when I felt my "Saunders" persona had got too nice and was not letting me get away with the odd sarcastic comment, but after a while with the new name it was uncomfortable and I switched back. Using the old name, such as TM or LF lets the culprit know they are recognised and are not geting away with it. Drake tends to give the worst offenders a special title to make them recognisable: I think tGM (the Great Mister) has started a new account to lose that title, but I can't see TM sacrificing his membership # 4! -------------------- KazeArctica: Oh yes. In the right frame of mind, I love a good RP, but there are so many ways they can go wrong, for example: Hijacking by one person who wants to control the story Introduction of a god character whois too powerful for the scenario Descent into chaos as somebody has not read the other contributions and does not cooperate Overcomplexity when too many people get involved and too many plot lines are running Overindulgent very long posts, especially without paragraph breaks Sudden absence of a key player who has not given other people permission to play their character I am aware that there are RPs elsewhere that are well run and I still don't have the heart to join in. Even Canal is stalled right now. Oh, policing an RP as a mod also puts one in the firing line for a barrage of complaints: Can you do something about So-and-so who is being silly and spoiling our RP? etc. Yours, old, bitter and twisted. Point 1, yes, RPs are currently bad news, but there have always been people who want to play God characters. However in the past, they have been mostly persuaded to tone down their acts. Point 2, it was pretty clear when Zephyr started telling other people he would behave well once they apologised to him that he regarded blackmail as a reasonable way of behaving. That's really a bigger issue than anybody on the boards has a hope of addressing at arm's length. Point 3, sigs can change. -------------------- KazeArctica: Oh yes. Hi Felwynne! I suspect that some of the posters who continually put up simply annoying junk are not able to appreciate that other members are actually human beings capable of being angry, hurt etc. Whether it's because they are like that in everyday life, or whether it is just because they cannot see other board members, I don't know, and I guess that also varies between them. On the other hand when people just go on being annoying and badly behaved there isn't much point in continuing to tolerate them. When they do show they are trying to make an effort to get on, and to belong to a community, then congratulations and encouragement to them! -------------------- KazeArctica: Oh yes.
