Now, for what you should have done, TM: You should have moved QR pawn forward one. That's the standard counter. As a general rule, you should NEVER move the same piece twice during the opening moves of a chess game. (There are, of course, exceptions. There are also times when you are forced to move a piece twice. The latter case usually means that you made a mistake.) Posts: 422 | Registered: Tuesday, October 16 2001 07:00 |

In answer, there's a pretty huge disadvantage. You're not threatening the center, and usually whoever controls the center of the board wins the game. FB, try forgetting about any cult. Run a character that has NO resources outside of his personal ones. (Assuming that this RP is revived or a new one is started. I'm not interested enough to bother, but I'll probably participate to some extent if someone else (NOT FB) does either.) Posts: 422 | Registered: Tuesday, October 16 2001 07:00 |

Namothil drew his swords, and laid them on the ground. Then, he started pulling vials out of his pack. 'Let's see... Poisons, no. Not worth it. Soporifics...' "Wise Man! Do you want prisoners for any reason?" "Not particularly. They're probably compelled not to speak of their cult's plans anyway." "Right." 'Okay then, just the disorienters. Although... no. These things are much to expensive to use unneccessarily. I'm not even sure anyone down here makes them.' Posts: 422 | Registered: Tuesday, October 16 2001 07:00 |

Namothil slipped up behind Firedrake and Wise Man. "What's the hurry?" "Necromancers. Planning an attack. Just follow!" "Ah, fun." Posts: 422 | Registered: Tuesday, October 16 2001 07:00 |

OOC: Erm, is that mission starting any time soon, Firedrake? IC: "Idiot necromancers. They really should think before they act." Namothil sat down on one of the few undamaged chairs at the bar. "Ale, quickly!" 'Still, someone does need to deal with that lich. Maybe I'll look into it, once this current job is finished.' Posts: 422 | Registered: Tuesday, October 16 2001 07:00 |

"I think I could use a few. These are the powdered slug ones, right?" Taking a few cookies, Namothil carefully packed them in a small satchel enchanted to preserve its contents. 'These might be useful sometime.' Posts: 422 | Registered: Tuesday, October 16 2001 07:00 |

Namothil wandered around on the wrong side of the Imperial lines, muttering to himself. "Just once I'd like to have a mission go perfectly. No insane magi, no plots to take over the world, no enormous armies. Just a nice quiet mission with no complications or extreme heatlh risks. Is that to much to ask?" He looked around again. Still no sign of a gap in the enemy lines. For now, at least, he was safe from detection, but how could he rejoin the others? OOC: Had a scheduled interruption of internet access that lasted longer than I expected it to. I think I've caught up with what's happened. Don't have a plausible explanation for N's absence yet, but I'll think of something. Posts: 422 | Registered: Tuesday, October 16 2001 07:00 |

OOC: Possibly when he's actually here? Have patience. IC: Namothil walked into the inn, carrying his purchases. 'Minor mirror-shield on the swords, renewed the most critical of my defensive spells, restocked my helpful potions assortment -Hopefully it will be enough.' "Ready to go." OOC: Helpful potions refers to poisons, soporifics, hypnotics, and similar things, not beneficial potions. Posts: 422 | Registered: Tuesday, October 16 2001 07:00 |

OOC: Zephyr, calm down. You're not being kicked out because of a lack of respect for you, but because you are not showing respect. You insist on bringing in characters from your story, even if they don't really fit. You seem to have an obsession with combat, and make your characters decidedly one-dimensional as a result. (NOT a severe criticism - I tend to do much the same thing. It's just something that you need to try to avoid if you ever participate in an RP in the future.) You seem to wnat all your characters to be connected to a major guild/organization/whatever. This is not neccessarily a problem, but, with your past record, it leads to a suspicion that you're trying to sneak in an uber-character. IC: Namothil slipped out into the street. He slowly walked along a line of store, until he found a particualr one. "Good day, Mr..." "No names, whoever you are. What's your business?" "You are the local... acquisitions agent, right?" "Depends on whose asking." "An... associate of the guild." "Hrm. You have proof?" Namothil drew his swords, and tossed them on the counter. "Sufficient?" "A moment." The shopkeeper crossed the room, puled curtains over the windows, and flipped the sign on the door to 'closed'. "Yes, that's quite sufficient. Assuming you didn't just kill someone... No. I'd've heard. So, what do you want?" "Renewal of a few personal spells, some potions, and some enhancements for the wepons, if I can afford them." "A mage that'll enhance these things isn't cheap, you know." "I know. Here's a complete list of my requirements. Just give me a price." "The spells and potions I can do. The enhancements? Maybe. About thirty thousand, all told." "Without the enhancements?" "Five, six thousand. More if you'd rather not cast the spells yourself." "I think I can avoid mistakes with the scroll in front of me. What would it cost to buy the materials for the enhancements?" "That's the price I gave you. You want a mage that'll do that? Good luck." "How much for just the first enhancement?" "Two thousand. That one's cheap." "The gear, and that enhancement then. Here's your gold." "Pleasure doing business with you." Posts: 422 | Registered: Tuesday, October 16 2001 07:00 |

Zephyr, a few things you seem to have missed: 1. You ARE being treated with respect. 2. Stop making references to your problems. Whether you have them or not, there is a tendency to regard people who constantly mention such things online as liars. Why? Because there are a number of people online who pretend (with varying degrees of success) to suffer from various disabilities. 3. Don't boast about test scores. They're not really that important. The real test is how well you do in life. 4. If you want to participate in an RP, try to realize that there is more to it than combat. In fact, combat is often the least important part. (I know, I spend more time on combat posts than anything else. That doesn't make non-combat posts unimportant.) Actually, it's partially possible in BoE. You just have to give up having either normal bows, or crossbows. Don't expect anything better. Posts: 422 | Registered: Tuesday, October 16 2001 07:00 |

'Twenty of them, five of us. They don't have a chance.' Namothil lunged forward, slashing at an enemy's throat, and then striking downwards as the mercenary brought his weapon up to block. A hand fell away. Before the mercenary could recover, a second stroke tore out his throat. All around, the others were decimating their own opponents. OOC: Zephyr, for once, please read what has already happened BEFORE you post. To summarize (Summary may be faulty): The current primary plot involves some sort of occurences on Aizo. Due to massive Imperial forces in the area that may be controlled by whoever is behind what we're investigating, plus the unknown nature of our opposition, we're supposed to be keeping a low profile. (And not doing very well.) Mars (AKA LF) started going around doing various things to try to win local support, despite the fact that we hope we don't need it. (Since, if we do need it, we're probably dead.) He and Firedrake then went off on this quest to hunt down a demon terrorizing the local populace, which for some inexplicable reason the local imperial forces have not dealt with. "My game." Namothil stepped out behind Zephyr. A quick daggerstrike to the base of the skull, followed by a simple torch, killed him, and destroyed the body. "Did I misunderstand our orders? I thought we were supposed to be inconspicuous." OOC: Zephyr, being a hostile mage around someone whose business is killing magi is not exactly a good idea. Try an underpowered character if you want to join in. It really is a better choice for the first time you participate in an RP. I've told you this before, and you obviously paid no attention. Maybe this time you'll get the message. Posts: 422 | Registered: Tuesday, October 16 2001 07:00 |
