quote:In mine as well. Unlike the music of so many other popular bands and artists, their music was not merely intensely popular for a short period of time. Beatles music is just about as timeless as music can get, as evidenced by the sizeable sales of the Beatles "1" CD, and now, the Let It Be...Naked CD, both released around thirty years after the breakup. Nearly all modern pop/rock has been influenced, one way or another, by the music of the Beatles. They were not only adept at the construction of popular music, but of innovative and groundbreaking music as well. They were extraordinarily prolific composers, but their speed of composition sacrificed nothing in terms of quality. I find it highly unlikely that any group or artist will ever come close to surpassing the work of the Beatles. I've certainly seen no signs of such greatness from any modern act. -------------------- "Let a man find himself, in distinction from others, on top of two wheels with a chain- at least in a poor country like Russia- and his vanity begins to swell out like his tires. quote:Agreeably, the Beatles are one of the greatest and most amazing musical artists. Many similarly popular bands have been compared to them, such as Rolling Stones, but they have been around around forever (And im not saying Im not a fan of them, I love the stones too). As said before, the beatles wrote an incredibly large amount of (good) music in not that long of a time period, 10 years was it? When it comes to quality over quantity, not many musicians have both of them. I wish I had been there for the tribute to John Lennon when he died...such a shame. Im glad that Ringo is still alive however, him being my favorite member :D Why do people say he's not a talented drummer? i think he has plenty of talent. -------------------- There is no knowledge that is not power. Yep, the Beatles were only together for around a decade, and in that time, they managed to produce 12 LPs, 13 EPs, and 22 singles. Just about all of it was fantastic music, and almost all of the compositions were original. And, unlike nearly any other popular group or artist, the Beatles chose not to play it safe by sticking with a particular genre or sound. Rather, they delved tirelessly into genre after genre, innovating and revolutionizing everything from lighthearted pop to grinding metal. Only the Beatles could, without a second's hesitation, skip from a spunky pop song like "Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da" to a heavy metal orgy like "Helter Skelter," then move on to a lovely ballad like "Here, There, and Everywhere," then to a song flavored with Indian music, such as "Within You Without You," and finally finish up with a grungy, progressive rock masterpiece like "Happiness Is A Warm Gun." As for Ringo, I agree with you. He wasn't my favorite Beatles member; that distinction belonged to the recently-departed George Harrison. :( Ringo was a fine player, but unlike the other three, was no real virtuoso. Thus, unfavorable comparisons will always be made. His failure to compose anything of great merit while with the Beatles stands as another black mark on his name, although many of his songs were decent, if not anything spectacular (Octopus's Garden, Don't Pass Me By). But Ringo certainly does not deserve to be disparaged for his fine work with the Beatles, and in his subsequent solo career. He may not have been an equal in genius to the other three, but, in my opinion, he still stands as one of the better rock drummers of all time. -------------------- "Let a man find himself, in distinction from others, on top of two wheels with a chain- at least in a poor country like Russia- and his vanity begins to swell out like his tires. Ugh. Can't stand that song, or band. I used to love them, too. I'm listening to Christian Rock on purpose for the first time in my life, as far as I can remember.
