Avernum runs slow in The Avernum Trilogy

Okay, now that I'm on my MacBook, I created a quick party and ran to the bandit cave to test out the speed of the game in XP (which I can already see by walking around that it's much better). By far the slowest action in OS X was Bolt of Fire, so I tested it on a bandit. BAM! Flew across the screen like lightning and he crumpled to the ground.

Then I got semi-excited and I opened up A3 in OS X and try Bolt of Fire on a rat... Still slow. I don't understand it.

And I thought these games were made for Mac...

An article from TidBits on Conflict Catcher:
Wanted: Conflict Catcher for Mac OS X

Here's the good news. Mac OS X doesn't suffer from the same sort of conflicts that Mac OS 9 did. You will seldom, if ever, find that installing a new piece of software causes some other program to act in an unnatural, demon-possessed fashion. Apple promised that level of reliability, and they delivered.

I've also noticed that playing Starcraft on my Mac's, the movie cut-scenes run slower than I would expect. It's not the CD either.

Am I the only one with this problem?
So is there anyone out there with the same problem?

EDIT: I'm gonna try running A3 in Parallels, Win XP Pro. Theories anyone?

I've got a nice shiny new Macbook with 1 GB of RAM. I also have a new Intel iMac. I used to have a 400 Mhz iBook with 192 MB RAM. I've played Avernum 3 on all three (separate downloads) and they pretty much run at the same speed: slooooow.

By slow I mean there's a slight delay when I click, and any graphic that is supposed to move fast (javelin, firebolt, other spells) moves with about the speed of dial-up internet download. I play it with no other apps running, I turn off background noises and special effects, I try different resolution configurations, I try running it out of full screen mode... nothing works.

Avernum works fine, Avernum 2 is slightly slower, and Avernum 4 is awesome. Why would Avernum 3 run slow on my Mac's, and can it be fixed?

I'd have never guessed! :P

Our school last year during Spirit Week actually had a day called 'Gender Bender' day. Guys dress as girls, vise versa. But then like a week before, some stupid parents who didn't want their precious children to turn into cross-dressers complained to the school, and it was changed to 'Colorful Hat' day or something lame like that. Most people still did the gender bender thing, many guys taking it as far as shaving their legs and arms. Eew.

A word of advice: get a job you aren't going to quit within a week. I think that if you hate your job, it's not always worth doing, at least in our younger years where we don't really have to work.

As for myself, I have worked in a textile manufacturing plant for many years now, my first paying job there was when I was around nine. I would do random jobs around the business like paperwork, computer work, and later working out in the plant and being put on payroll.
Now I work in the inspection department, rolling and re-rolling rolls of industrial and commercial fabrics, not apparel or decorating fabrics you see in stores. We do stuff like flags, banners, non-skid material you put under carpets, the bright orange and yellow safety jacket mesh material, stuff like that. But it pays pretty well and I like it. I usually work on the weekends and sometimes after school, but not lately because of sports and such...

And that too is strange because both of the links work for me. WHAT'S GOING ON? Maybe it's different for mac and PC?

IC: I wonder though. Even if you were to complete Geneforge in a non-violent way, would not the ending of the game not still be violent? And it would be because of your actions (or lack thereof).

Speaking of spirit week, (and to take this topic a little off course) what do you all think about school spirit, and homecoming and such? In general, what do you all think of the social stucture of school? I personally think it is all blown out of proportion, overrated, and stupid. To some extent it is fun, but sometimes everything (like pep rallies) gets ridiculous. What do you all think?
The social structure of school, in my opinion, is one of the worst learning environments ever. My teacher has a poster in her classroom that says something to the effect of "Will anyone remember in 20 years?" I think students spend more time worrying about what other kids think of them than they do actually learning. Especally freshmen. And ever since the new parking lot regulations were put into place, people have sat around in class doing nothing but thinking of the slickest and funniest way to somehow cheat the system.

But for the most part, social events at our school are relatively safe, and we are a school of over 2000. Pep rallies, only the underclassmen actually go to, anyone that drives uses the opportunity to leave school early. School dances, there are rent-a-cops everywhere, same with football games.

Anyway, homecoming for us is just another football game with just a few nice ceremonies here and there. In my past three years of high school, I've never once attended a homecoming... well anything. (This year I'm in the marching band and kinda have to go.) But nobody wants to go to our football games either. While us cross country runners are making this our eleventh year of being undefeated in conference, our football team is quickly making this their fourth season of no real victories. So homecoming is nothing special for most people in our area.

As for school spirit, you won't find much at our school. One of the most beautiful places in the country, but teenagers in this area are miserable. Here are your options for a Friday night: go to the movies (that's what most people do anyway)... that's really it unless you really want to hang out at the nearest mall, which is around an hour away. So mostly, people feel the same way about our school as they do the area they live in: they hate it. Most of them can't wait to get away from North Carolina and move somewhere fun.

My grandpa says we should go back to separating guys and girls in schools again...

"Without sports, they'd just be dancers." -An ESPN poster I once saw. Cheerleading is not a sport, nor is boxing. I define a sport as something decided by a set of rules and someone to enforce them. This does not include judges. Boxing is decided by who the judges think boxed better. Cheerleading is decided by who the judges think had a better cheer routine (or who had more cleavage) What about football? The refs call penalties based on what the rules define as a penalty and their best judgement at the time. Judge?Judgement.
