It is just about that time of year again, and Holloween is just around the corner. But I think since it is autumn here, it is spring in Australia and in the southern hemisphere, right? Anywho, I was just curious as to weather you all are going to dress up, or if you all are too old for that, and will just sit at home watching Hitchcock films and giving out candy. I myself plan on cross-dressing for halloween. It is too cold to wear a dress at night here, so I will only do it at school. For the trick or treating part, I am considering adorning myself in pirate garments. I am doing it because of the thrill and to scare the teachers and the really dumb, ignorant people, not because I am gay or anything. If you think about it, it is a subtle screwing of the system. If you all have any ideas or inputs for my costume, do tell. I'll be sure to keep you all posted on the progress of my adventure. :D Speaking of spirit week, (and to take this topic a little off course) what do you all think about school spirit, and homecoming and such? In general, what do you all think of the social stucture of school? I personally think it is all blown out of proportion, overrated, and stupid. To some extent it is fun, but sometimes everything (like pep rallies) gets ridiculous. What do you all think? Also, another idea I have been toying with is applying Marx and his philosophy into a school enviorment. Like having the students instead of the workers being the means of production and stuff like that. What do you all think of this? When I was a senior in HS school we lost our homecoming rally because we were too rowdy and booed the freshmen :D I believe that one of the seven or eight rallies could actually be called a success. On spirit week there was Pajama day- but that day anybody that showed up in PJs got sent home because they were violating school code. So- managment tends to suck, the world of highschool is small, but hey- try to have fun and to get into the college that you want to go to. I have made several changes to the title of this topic to make it broader. t m's devotee: Don't worry, that is what we spiderwebbers are all about, right? :P And as far as getting into a good college, I have no worries, my college applications already have some pretty impressive stuff on it. I will finish High School in like 2 years, and have a high GPA. But yes, many thanks for your advice. I have a plan to run for student council, and later, school board. The school system is so *jacked* it is not even funny, no, actually, it is so bad, it is hilarious. For example, I was suspended from school because I was accused of calling a noon duty aid a "stupid person". I did not do it, someone else in the crowd did, so my mom had to talk with the principal. There is SOO MUCH INJUSTICE!!! I FEEL LIKE EXPLODING SOMETIMES!!! I WAS ACCUSED OF SOMETHING I DID NOT DO!!! :mad: There is no respect for kids anymore. We are all looked down upon. Actually, now that I think about it, we have allways been looked upon as inferiors. :( EDIT: WE GOT POLLING AGAIN!!! HURRAY!!! While us cross country runners are making this our eleventh year of being undefeated in conference, our football team is quickly making this their fourth season of no real victories. So homecoming is nothing special for most people in our area. As for school spirit, you won't find much at our school. One of the most beautiful places in the country, but teenagers in this area are miserable. Here are your options for a Friday night: go to the movies (that's what most people do anyway)... that's really it unless you really want to hang out at the nearest mall, which is around an hour away. So mostly, people feel the same way about our school as they do the area they live in: they hate it. Most of them can't wait to get away from North Carolina and move somewhere fun. I tend to like the social structure of my school. No football team, no cheerleaders. There is a homecoming, but all it is is the class who graduated last year come back and chill with the current seniors for a day. There isn't much pressure to conform and fit in, and there's plenty to do besides seeing movies and going to the mall (I <3 NY!). We have a spirit week as well. Maybe around a third of the school dresses in pajamas. Hardly anyone ever gets suspended for any reason. Yea I live in NZ so it's spring...Also I plan on dressing up for halloween and scaring the crap out of someone in a hilarous fashon and getting it on video. I'm yet to figure out how though. Our school is really good, every one gets along with each other basically and if they don't then they just don't talk at all. I mean at primary i get into quite a few fights but in my entire time at high school I haven't gotten into one... Or maybe it's because I've grown like a foot... Halloween gets more and more popular in Germany. But noone does this "trick-or-treat"-thing here. :( Although there are quite a lot Halloween-Parties in the bars and discos, you meet no costumed people in the streets. Besides me: That's me on Halloween last year. I was costumed the whole day. And I scared some little children in the supermarket. :D Edit: BTW, do I still look like anyones mother? A good portion of the male population of my school dresses up as women on Halloween. For a few years in a row, I dressed up as the Grim Reaper. For the past couple years, though, I've worn a small, orange, paper top hat and said I was dressed up as Canadian. I'm the only one who finds it to be amusing though. I also wear the hat on Hat Day. This year, I'm going to strap a boot to my chest and hand out "fortunes" I pull out of said boot. The fortunes will be along the lines of "You will get a tattoo of a trout on your forehead." If you don't mind, I would like to borrow that concept and be a Canadian Cross Dresser myself. I don't usually do weird things like coming to school is pajamas or cross-dressing. I don't go trick-or-treating, either (the nearest oppupied residence is about three tenths of a mile, oh wait, half a kilometer, away. The next one is further still. The nearest town is about 20 miles [~35 km] away.)
