There's no randomness involved either. If you can bash a particular door, you will succeed in doing so every time. Anyway, it tells you the strength of the door when you fail to open it. If it's 200, you won't try again. :P -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Nice scripting, although I'm not sure how much use it should see. God parties are a legitimate tool for both debugging and reviewing. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

He should be helping you in combat, though. NPC AI isn't always very smart, but archers usually do pretty well. He'll only fight when you're in combat mode, though, so if you're wandering around somewhere (or using your lead character to fight in town mode) and just expecting him to shoot at enemies then he won't. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! All of them apparently can heal, so they do have priest spells. An all-spellcaster party strikes me as a pretty difficult strategy, but oh well. Can they also cast Repel Spirit? A few castings of Repel Spirit should take out just about any group of undead, and if you haste your party before the fight starts and/or go in in combat mode then your opponents shouldn't even get a chance to act. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! There's no absolute point above which any stat stops being worth increasing, although getting Tool Use or total Nature Lore above 20 or so is pretty pointless in current scenarios, as is increasing Resistance when your resistances are all above 100% already. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! I'm starting to really wish BoA would just display the base as a (+1) or whatever beside the bought value, instead of adding them together for display. It seems to be a complete inability to cast spells above Slow if they're more than a little encumbered. Anyway, I'm almost certain you can't get to 9 AP normally (which you'd need to get 3 attacks/round). You might just be able to do it with AP-boosting equipment and high Quick Action and Gymnastics, but I doubt you could do it consistently. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Try harder. Remember that you can move diagonally. If all else fails, randomly mash your keypad in approximately the appropriate directions. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

I believe that if you do something seriously wrong in a subtle way, it can give you a line number corresponding to the start or end of the state, or even at the start or end of the entire script. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! If it's a newly-created party at level 1 and the bonus is uneven, then it's probably the Divinely Touched bonus. And why do you insist on referring to Dragongirl as "he"? >_< -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Thrown Missiles? Eww. Well, to each their own. I believe a point in SS is equal to a point in both TM and Archery, so get whichever is cheaper and then build them both equally once the point costs become equal. If you plan to use archery as well as thrown missiles, put more points into Sharpshooter. I don't believe you ever get an AP bonus from dexterity alone. You get Quick Action at 8 dexterity, but unfortunately I think it also requires some training in Melee or Pole Weapons. Get strength and dexterity high enough (I think you need str 8 and dex 10) and you may be eligible for Gymnastics, which also gives AP bonuses; I forget whether Gymnastics also requires a weapon skill. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! A MUD might also be doable within server limitations. Actually, there was a third-party Exile-based MUD once. So far as I know, it died for lack of interest. -------------------- I'd be tender, I'd be gentle And awful sentimental Regarding love and art I'd be friends with the sparrows And the boy who shoots the arrows, If I only had a heart. Try casting War Blessing on your characters to make them more competent in combat and Haste so they can kill the Platebug Queen faster. Use up some potions, scrolls and wands if you have to. As for the barriers, the "fuzzy" ones are dispelled by Piercing Crystals and the green ones are dispelled by something you'll find later. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Yes, but if you do get NPCs in your party, they'll go in slots 5 and 6, and you'll be able to cast spells and use First Aid on them by selecting 5 and 6. Basically, it doesn't bother to count the number of members in your party, so it just tells you the maximum number that could possibly be in there. It might actually count the "while" as two instructions (essentially, a conditional and a goto), which would make it 32000. I don't know how Jeff is doing it, though, and I'm not a programmer anyway, so I don't know how plausible this is. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure!
