quote:Actually, 0 degrees Fahrenheit was the freezing point of a concentrated salt solution and 100 degrees was (supposedly) the human body temperature. Of course, Fahrenheit was off by a little in measuring the human body temperature; most people's is a little lower than that. Why switch from the metric system? Well, for one thing, because it's already caused a 200-million-dollar accident. One of the Mars probes was lost because of errors in metric/imperial conversion. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! Well, repeating decimals are really just a notation for fractions which can't be expressed in base 10. We wouldn't have to consider their limits unless they were actually equations, which I don't think they are. Regarding the "proofs" of 1 = 2, all of them contain a division step which isn't mathematically valid if the divisor is 0 (which it has to be for the "proof" to work). Not this conversation again. You're right, of course, since infinitesimals aren't defined in standard mathematics. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Easy access to animals closer on the evolutionary ladder to them than they are to other humans, I suppose. Seriously, though, veterinary science is popular here too -- and requires really high marks to get into, almost comparable to medicine. Likewise optometry, for some reason. Students with merely good but unremarkable results tend to get into education or nursing courses, with the result that there are a lot of unemployed people around who are technically qualified for teaching or nursing but completely unsuited to the job. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! I used to do that, but I'm not so sure it's absolutely necessary any more. I'd rather start with a point or two in Luck, decent weapon skills and maybe even some priest spells for the fighters, even if it means settling for 15 or so Strength. Fighters get to 250 HP easily enough anyway, so it's unnecessary to have 20 Strength right from the start. Similarly, I hardly bother with advantages any more, except for Recuperation and maybe Highly Alert for a fighter or two. Most of the others seem like dead weight. Of course, I'm now in the minority of competent BoE players for still using a 6-PC party, so I don't claim to have the final word on party design. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! I thought Shyguy was overreacting a little at first too, but just look at that reply. The second paragraph worries me more than the first; the fact that Linda failed to notice or appreciate the difference between a .sit file and a .zip file, and apparently did not in fact know how to make a .zip file at all despite maintaining a database that stores scenarios exclusively in that format, simply astounds me. EDIT: Areni and Lost Tunnels 2, both on the Untried and Untested list, are also in .sit format. Seems an odd sort of business practice to alienate half your customers, but it's not as if there isn't precedent for it -- witness the frankly bizarre decision to store Mac custom graphics in resource forks in BoA. This is beyond arrogance. This is insanity. Linda Strout is obviously both technically incompetent and utterly unsuited to customer service. She has to go. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

There are level *1* spells in VoDT. If you already know the spells and then find them, you won't notice any difference. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

If you want to make another scenario in BoE, there will always be an audience to play it, even if it'll be smaller than the audience you get with BoA. That's the only advice I can give you. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Try restarting your computer and seeing if the problem still occurs. If it does, try reinstalling BoA. [ Wednesday, September 08, 2004 18:59: Message edited by: Thuryl ] -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

The Stuff Done Flag? node is useful for checking a flag that could have multiple values. For example, if a flag could be equal to 0, 1 or 2, you could use the Stuff Done Flag? node with "If at least this" set to 2 to check if the flag is equal to 2 and "If less than this" set to 1 to check if the flag is equal to 0. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Okay, the first thing you need to appreciate is that A and B are not Stuff Done Flags. A and B are a pair of numbers which point to a Stuff Done Flag, which is itself another number. So (1,2) is the Stuff Done Flag with A = 1 and B = 2, and it could contain any number from 0 to 250. So let's say you're setting SDF (1,2) to a value of 1 to denote the fact that the gate has been opened. When you want the gate to open, have the Change Terrain node (or whatever node you're using to open the gate) jump to a Set Flag node. In the Set Flag node, set SDF Part A to 1, SDF Part B to 2, and "Value to change to" to 1. Now, when you need to check whether the gate has been opened, use a Stuff Done Equal? node with SDF Part A set to 1 and SDF Part B set to 2, and check if the SDF is equal to 1. If the SDF is equal to 1, the gate should stay open; jump to -1 and end the chain. If it isn't, the gate should be closed if it isn't already; jump to a Change Terrain node and change the gate to a closed gate. If I'm reading what you've written correctly, there are probably prettier ways to do what you're trying to do, and you can do all sorts of other fancy things like playing sounds when the gate opens and closes, but this should work if you set it up right. There's an SDF tutorial here if you need more help. [ Wednesday, September 08, 2004 02:23: Message edited by: Thuryl ] -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Ow. SW have mentioned that they don't like having to post updated versions of scenarios to fix bugs, and apparently it's a pretty low priority for them. I guess it's understandable that you're angry, though; it's been quite a while now (although at least AC3 hasn't disappeared off the face of the earth like Bandits II). EDIT: According to the scenario detail fields, the version of AC3 on SW is 2.0.2, and the version on Alexandria is 2.0.1. Is the current version 2.0.3? Attacking a friendly summoned monster will make the town hostile, and thus make you dead. Sorry. Creating a fire barrier on the desk itself and standing across the desk from Naxy while stealing the necklace just might work, though. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! You know, technically you don't have to violate the CoC to be canned. It's just a custom title, and custom titles are given out all the time to people who are particularly liked or disliked. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted!
