It already costs upwards of $100,000 to have yourself cryonically suspended. Ten or twenty thousand dollars set aside as a nest egg wouldn't add much to the overall cost. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

The easy way to quote a post is to click the big bold quote-mark symbols at the top of the post you want to quote. But of course, doing that would make too much sense. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Oh, I don't begrudge the use of god parties for testing purposes, but level-100 monsters won't stand up to a real god party anyway. What annoys me is players who insist on using a party that's already been through every other scenario under the sun and then complain about the combat being too easy. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Creating a self-duplicating terrain, even in the general case, isn't too hard. You'll need to give the terrain a default script if you want every instance of it to replicate. When the party searches the terrain, use my_loc_x() and my_loc_y() to find out where the terrain the party is messing around with is located, then put another terrain of its type in an empty space next to it. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Yeah, altering monster levels is a pretty blunt instrument. Then again, the sort of players who bring a god party into every scenario they play probably deserve to be hit with a blunt instrument. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! "Base" is everything else, including item bonuses, racial bonuses and so on (although it now seems that different kinds of base actually work in slightly different ways). Just make an item (either unlimited charges or usable once per day) that calls a script that gives you an item (through a call such as give_char_item) of the same type as itself. If you want an item that makes copies of other items, I'm afraid that can't really be done. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Yeah, Agents can be a little tough early on. On the higher difficulty levels, getting into a situation where you're actually being attacked is pretty much a death sentence. Run and hide around corners where you can, always attacking from the very edge of your spell range (if you have a way to haste yourself, that helps). For those situations where you have no choice but to stare your opponents down, it might be worth putting one level (and *only* one level) into a shaping skill so as to have a source of meatshields. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! I find that reading scripts from other people's scenarios and seeing how what goes on in the scenario corresponds to what's written in the script was the best way to familiarise myself with the scripting system. Before I'd written a line of code for my own scenario, I hung around the BoA forum for several months looking at common things that were going wrong with other people's scripts and how they fixed them, and I betatested two scenarios (both of which I fairly thoroughly poked around in the scripts of.) My criticism was that the "them" in the second half of his first sentence referred to the "illegal music files" in the first half, which clearly wasn't what he intended. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

It's best to concentrate mainly on one or two types of shaping skill, although there's nothing wrong with putting a couple of points into all of them. Focusing on Fire Shaping early on and Magic Shaping toward the endgame works fairly well. Don't invest too heavily in Battle Magic; you're not likely to ever be great magically-speaking, especially with creations limiting your essence supply, so you'll get more bang for your buck out of some Blessing Magic to help your creations along. If you really want to pump a lot of skill points into magic, you'll probably have to focus mostly on one type of shaping to save skill points -- something has to give somewhere. Armed combat skills aren't much use for a shaper, although missile weapons are feasible if you really want to send a few points that way. You'll need lots of points in Intelligence for essence; you can afford to neglect the other primary stats, since your creations should be doing most of the fighting for you anyway. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! It's entirely possible to finish Geneforge 1 without using any canisters, especially if you're playing as a Guardian. It's more difficult, but that's the point, isn't it? -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |
