Go easy on him, guys. It seems as if the link was posted in good faith, and it's not as if he started a new topic for it or anything.

move_to_loc_x_y question in Blades of Avernum Editor

Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. move_to_loc_x_y doesn't return a value, so you can't use it in a conditional statement. There isn't really an easy way to do what you want. In fact, even BoA's ordinary summoning spells don't always get it right; they can sometimes summon creatures on top of unreachable ledges.

Surprisingly, there aren't very many new Latin proverbs.

"In matters of taste there can be no dispute", more or less. It's a fairly common proverb among English speakers.

Well, the easy way is to drink an invulnerability potion. The hard way is to have one character with lots of HP and hope he's the one who gets hit.

If you read the readmes that came with those scenarios, you'll notice something like the following passage:

quote:
This scenario will work only with a BoA app that runs Scenario Format Version 2 (Mac v1.1, Windows v1.0, or better).
So yes, you need to download the latest version of BoA. Find the patches on this page.

He has a different signature for every post. It's his trademark, as you'll notice if you hang around and read a few more of his posts. And it starts with Alorael because that is his name.

Technically, as long as something has seeds in it, it's a fruit. "Vegetable" is a culinary term, not a botanical one. There's no reason why something can't be a fruit and a vegetable at the same time.

It might help if we knew what computer and browser you were using, and if this problem still occurs if you try using a different browser. For whatever reason, it looks like your browser is anti-aliasing text when it shouldn't be.

It's only a bug if he actively intended to change it at some point and then forgot. If he didn't actually intend to change it, but he would have done so if the idea had occurred to him, then it's merely an oversight.

Which Game's Spells do you prefer? in The Exile Trilogy

The later Exiles had a somewhat better variety of spells, that's true. On the other hand, Exile 1's spells cost the fewest spell points. You could cast almost twice as many Fireballs or Firestorms with the same number of SP, compared to E2 or E3.

Is there a utility that can either search through a resource fork for specific pieces of text or dump the strings into a data fork? That'd make looking through it a lot easier.

Thanks. I might get around to going on another fishing expedition for them later; I'll be sure to note their locations for posterity if and when I find them.

You can't really copyright something as broad and vague as the idea of the world. As long as you changed around the names of all the places and characters, and maybe messed around with the plot a little, it's unlikely that Jeff could successfully sue you.

Rowling's writing style has always reminded me very, very strongly of Roald Dahl's. To cite a specific example, Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans would hardly look out of place in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Then again, maybe this similarity just reflects a certain aspect of British culture in general.

Hintbook for AV 1. in The Avernum Trilogy

That's not true. Natural Mage definitely does increase the effectiveness of priest spells, at least in BoA. You can prove this with Enduring Barrier, which always increases the target's HP by the same amount, dependent only on the caster's stats; a character with Natural Mage will give more HP with Enduring Barrier than an otherwise identical character without it. And if Natural Mage works for priest spells in BoA, there's no reason it wouldn't work that way in the other Avernums.

The bonus Natural Mage gives to your spells is pretty small, though.
