Reading the hints and playing the game simultaneously is not quite the same thing as switching constantly between them. Um, I'm pretty sure he was talking about enemy gazers and eyebeasts, not the ones you create. In which case it depends on your class; as a Shaper I'd rather fight a Gazer than an Eyebeast, but as a Guardian or Agent I'd generally rather deal with the Eyebeast. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Yes, he's talking about Bahss. The second ghost is a red herring; there's no way past it. Knowing the password to the first ghost just allows you to bypass one or two of the fights, which you may as well fight anyway for the experience. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! quote:Oh, no doubt about it. An elephant's trunk is an even better example. The problem, as you point out, is making tentacles that can support your weight. Octopuses can "walk" along surfaces using their tentacles (and even travel along dry land for short distances), but in general it's not as efficient as using legs. The abyss could do with having a bit more colour added to it. Maybe a nebula in that big empty space below and to the left of the party? -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

A final quibble; there's an unmatched left brace in your code. Match it and you've finally got a code fragment that works. :P -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

No reason why tentacles can't fork into smaller processes at the ends. The issue at hand is one of basic body plan, not fine structure. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

The expletive to which you refer is derived from Old English. The word "transit" first appeared in Middle English. So obviously the acronym can't be the real etymology. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

C GUI. C GUI run. Run, GUI, run! Sorry. In all seriousness, the way you implement a GUI is going to depend heavily on the operating system you're writing it for. Read up on the operating system's API before you try anything fancy. Of course, if you're planning to write it to work with a cross-platform windowing system like X11, then things are a little different again. Mind you, the evolutionary arguments for bipedalism only apply to a land-based environment. In a water-like environment (the ocean, inside a gas giant, etc.), where appendages don't have to support their own weight, grasping tentacles make at least as much sense as arms. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! You can probably pick the graphics out of the game's resources if you have a basic knowledge of ResEdit. On Windows you don't even need that. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

I'm pretty sure your revised version won't work properly for the example case I suggested either. As soon as it sees that character 1 isn't okay, it'll skip out of the loop. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

I think part of the issue may be that Ben is underestimating just how different religions can be from each other. Compared to the Abrahamic religions, religions such as Buddhism have radically different ways of thinking and systems of ethics that make Christianity and Islam seem similar by comparison. The idea that children born with serious illnesses are suffering because of wrongful acts they've committed in past lives probably horrifies most Christians, but it's a view that the Dalai Lama himself has officially endorsed. In India, it's punishable by death to shoot an elephant even if it's charging at you, because elephants are harder to replace than people. Blades of Exile has rather a lot of third-party scenarios made for it, and a few of them have really great plots. The graphics are arguably a step or two down from GF3's, though. If you want to see a good plot that's Jeff Vogel's own work, you might want to go for either Nethergate or Exile/Avernum 2. (The Exile and Avernum games are almost the same plotwise, but with a different engine, so the choice between Exile and Avernum is a matter of personal preference; try the demos of both).
