Actually, Carroll eventually wrote an answer to that, just to stop people annoying him about it. It was first published 31 years after the first edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and of course it's not really worth 31 years of buildup, but here it is anyway, just as Carroll wrote it.

"Because it can produce a few notes, tho they are very flat; and it is nevar put with the wrong end in front!"

And no, "nevar" isn't a typo. Think about it.

The chat's started now. If there are no people in the room, you're in the wrong room. IM Tyranicus (Tyranicus86) and ask him to invite you.

Or, if you interpret "water" metaphorically, the cathode ray tube of a television set.

Disk Utility? Sure, it's an application, but it comes bundled with the OS, so .dmg is considered a standard format.

We really can't give you specific numerical advice without knowing how good a player you are. If you're great, you won't need to cheat even with a singleton on Torment. If you're awful, you might need to cheat even with a party of four on Easy.

Play without cheating until the game becomes impossible. Cheat until it's not impossible anymore. Repeat as necessary.

I don't ever remember getting any message about having experience drained by them (or anything else in A4, for that matter), so probably not.

Talk to the eyebeast, get the reward from the mayor, go back and kill it, and get the reward for the eyestalk.

This has been asked and answered before; we're not talking about how to maximise your rewards. We're talking about the moral dilemma of killing it when you're under orders not to do so.

Not any more! OS X 10.4 does not come with StuffIt, and nor will any future versions of the OS. Apple now recommends using .dmg or .zip format for distributing files.

Personally, I'm all for the removal of secret passages. Their usefulness is negated when players learn to instinctively bash their heads against every wall that they pass by, anyway.

I also happen to think that designing for "replay value" is seriously overrated, at least in RPGs. If a book is good, you'll want to read it again even though it has the same text as it did last time. Hiding things from the player the first time through in order to force them to play again to find them is less fun in practice than in theory, especially for those of us who don't have a lot of time on our hands.

And even if you don't want to learn to hand-code HTML, there are better alternatives to FrontPage. I've had pretty good experiences with Netscape/Mozilla/Seamonkey Composer.

After you reinstall, take all the directories with names starting with "Save" in your old Avernum 4 Files folder, and move them into the new Avernum 4 Files folder.

It's more likely that there used to be apes on one of the surface continents. The Empire are not renowned for being environmentally friendly.

My title is a section of Turing tape. Unfortunately, in a previous topic I already made the joke that Turing tape is what you use to ture things to each other, so I won't do it again.

Seriously, though, you can basically just think of my title as being binary code for a computer. It arose because of a running joke that I'm actually an artificial intelligence.

Funny story about the word "statistic".

You know those child sponsorship ads that have pictures of starving African children and say "Don't let this child become a statistic"?

Yeah? Well, because of those, for the first 10 years of my life I thought "statistic" meant "a dead person".

Legally, they can do that. Unless you have particularly deep pockets, though, they're not going to bother.

Fortunately, the first kind of "grooming" that came to my mind was the kind that chimps do, so I'm only picturing you two picking bugs off each other and eating them.

A man walks into a bar and asks for a Black Russian.

The bartender asks him "How do you make one of those again?"

The customer says "You pour three parts vodka and one part Kahlua over ice, and stir it with a unicorn's horn."

The bartender tells him "Ain't no such thing as a unicorn, buddy."

And the customer says "Well, that's okay, because there ain't no such thing as a black Russian."
