You're right. I was thinking of the signature topic. There was a custom title topic in the past couple months however. I distinbctly remember it.

There are always custom title topics, karma topics, moniker topics, signatory topics and procedural topics.

The remainder is observational fluff designed to conceal the spam.

My title is a section of Turing tape. Unfortunately, in a previous topic I already made the joke that Turing tape is what you use to ture things to each other, so I won't do it again.

Seriously, though, you can basically just think of my title as being binary code for a computer. It arose because of a running joke that I'm actually an artificial intelligence.

Mine is one of a pair, with Arctic's. The reason behind it is not safe for small children and kittens.

My title took me rather by surprise. Like Aran's and Kel's, it's an Alice reference, and I think it's quite appropriate -- chosen no doubt for my tendency to pass time by putting square pegs in round holes and laughing madly at the results.

I think there's also an argument to be made that the three of us acquired those titles by being the biggest analytical wankers here.

There's always a custom title thread within a few pages of recent topics.

I often disregard custom titles, as they are only for those active in the community... which I wouldn't consider myself.

edit: 2 pages? who'da thunk it?

I've found custom titles to be a valid way of distinguishing unassuming active members from the incredibly vocal active members. Only those who really speak up get custom titles...

When I come here it looking increasingly much that you must be new and wierd not to have a custom title, you know? More and more are given out every once in a while, and most of the long-active members have them. But anyway, I guess having a custom title is still an honor. To those who consider it that.

My title, even though I'm approaching a landmark post count, will stay the same throughout. I'm afraid I'll have to wait another 500 posts before I can frolic.

I obviously don't have a custom title. Though I am close to becoming a Guru. Not that I want to be one. I mean isn't a Veterinarian better than a Guru, whatever that is.

There are two categories for titles. The first kind goes to people who do something useful, and the second goes to people who talk a lot. The first kind makes sense, and the second doesn't, so they really fit the ones they are given quite well.

Cartographer and BoE Posse belong to the first; sadly, mine appears to be solidly in the second group. (I had one shot at the first with "Exile Historian", but that was it).

Very difficult for Vlish to be Blademasters.

What does a Vlish need with a sword anyway? Such a crude weapon. Give me a good blaster any day.

Er, mind control ray.

My and Salmon’s titles are apparently nicknames for a couple basketball players. Though I have no idea what possible connection Drakey draws between Salmon and myself.

I enjoy that mine also comes with a cheerful tune.

It was recently drawn to my attention that the titles can occasionally get more amusing if they are read with the word "Member" appended, much as if read as a single line containing PDN, Title, and "Member" # x. I fail to see any humor, but that's not saying much.

Hm. I've done a couple of useful things here, but they probably aren't significant enough to count. They certainly aren't on Silver's level, anyway. Also, I'm not very vocal in general, lowering the chances of anyone noticing me.

Isn't it funny that "Curiouser and Curiouser" is both a Marathon and an Alice reference?

Not quite. I do nothing useful, nor do I talk a lot. I may have a long, long time ago, but I'm pretty sure I came back to my new custom title after something of a Spiderweb sabbatical. I'm an old member and I used to be well-known in roughly the same way as ben was when he first arrived; that, as far as I can tell, is why I have a custom title.

Actually, both titles make perfect sense... especially Roses...

My title is from Marathon, of whose existance I was completely unaware until receiving said title. If I had to guess, I'd say it's a fitting reference to my past and certain... disputes I've found myself in.

...

Being godfather of all Geneforge character editors looks quite significant to me, as far as contributions are concerned, but you also have to be very vocal. Silver was not very prominent himself, but the other two Cartographers were among most noticeable members when they got their titles. Same with BoE Posse. (If group titles are given out, belonging to a group is a replacement for individual prominence.)

As for my title, it's another artifact from Drakefyre's first Marathon level themed title spree.

Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword,
For it too has the power to kill.
However well placed word, unlike a well placed sword,
Can also have the power to heal.

Thank you Alorael. I am deeply flattered.
Not only are Khoth's and Arctic's titles linked, but at least one of them had to be shortened to fit.
