You don't have to, as each game has a rather independent plot. I myself have never played the fourth installment in the series, and playing Avernum 5 without it works just fine. What's nice about starting from the beginning, though, is previous games are referred to in later ones, but again, won't confuse the plot at all. -------------------- Decca Records - "We don't like their sound. When we lived in a rundown trailer park I was very happy, and when I lived down in Mexico, well they're quite happy too just working the farms. My grandparents are missionaries in Papua New Guinea, and the native tribes there are awfully happy. They simply cut down some trees, and there's a house, and if they're hungry, well there's more trees, and money, they just barter. However, my main opinion: I'll be like Jewelz and shut up. :P -------------------- Decca Records - "We don't like their sound. Groups of guitars are on the way out." To actually create a .cmg file you need a resourcing program like ResEdit or ResFool (I don't think the former works on OSX). If you wish to use premade custom graphics, you'll have to copy them and paste it into a cmg file you're creating with the resourcing program. Edit: Why am I always beaten to a question? Thank you, thought I recently discovered using Jeff's variables makes dialog boxes much easier to script. -------------------- Decca Records - "We don't like their sound. Groups of guitars are on the way out." Posts: 1384 | Registered: Tuesday, February 6 2007 08:00 |

I was fighting the shapeshifter in A5 yesterday, and my slith dropped down to one hitpoint. His goblin lackeys still had their turn, yet they missed my Slith twice, which left me rather amazed at the fact I didn't need to reload. -------------------- Decca Records - "We don't like their sound. Shamgar thought the village to be very unusual. The same curse had befallen them, but they also seemed eager to have him present. He had asked for food on numerous occasions, but they simply pointed towards a large building atop a hill. Driven by hunger, he climbed up the incline. The building seemed to be alive with chatter, yet it's architecture was quite ominous. Panting from his exertion, he walked cautiously to the doors and stepped in. Some men in the corner took interest momentarily, but then redirected their attention to the speaker up front. The reed wall behind him seemed to radiate light, yet he swore there was brazier in the center. Shamgar listened attentively to the speaker. The subject was about the curse, which caught Shamgar's attention immediately. He listened about the man's proposal to send someone to Salintu. However, Shamgar heard all he needed to know. He left the temple cautiously, in order to avoid upset. The doors behind him, he walked off, ready to march to Salintu by himself. He certainly didn't walk far, as an external force struck the back of his head. He lay unconscious under the shadow of the temple. -------------------- Decca Records - "We don't like their sound. I haven't had any need for variables so far, as the scripts work fine without them. However, after looking at some of JV's scripts, can variables be set as say... Thanks -------------------- Decca Records - "We don't like their sound. Groups of guitars are on the way out." Posts: 1384 | Registered: Tuesday, February 6 2007 08:00 |

I spilled scalding hot coffee on my left leg when I was eleven months old. I came out of the hospital with a second degree burn, and I still have many photos of my infant self with a huge bandage on my thigh. Now my left leg is slightly shorter than my right. -------------------- Decca Records - "We don't like their sound. Groups of guitars are on the way out."
