That image Aran just used to close a thread reminded me of this program, which uses given parameters to generate a scenery image. It was called "genesis" or some such. Personally, I never learned how to use the damn thing, even though I think it would be a great accessory for creative purposes. What I want to know, have the rest of you run across that program or something similar, and what have you managed to do with it?

Aran used Terragen to create that picture. Pretty neat program. There's a thread on Shadow Vale of member's artwork. I'll post a link later.

I'll save you the trouble.

Terragen @ SV

It's a pretty awesome program and it runs on Mac/Win. From what I've seen, it can take a bit of practice to make something that looks good, but it works pretty well. Good for Blades splash images.

I've managed to create a few semi-beautiful things with it, but it's difficult.

If you then google around and find what other people have done with it, you're in for some depression. =/

There are lots of Terragen splash screens on the Blades forge, by the way.

Wow, I had assumed you simply got those photos off the internet. It certainly seems like an interesting program, if such pictures are the result.

I may feel a little underwhelmed, but I don't feel like a sandwich yet. I'll let you know if I do.

I tried using that program once, but got rid of it. All I ever managed to do was make plateaus and craters in the shape of a mandelbrot fractal.

My thoughts exactly. If only I had the time and ambition, not to mention a registered copy of BoA.

Wow. They use a high-dimensional possibility space where choices are communicated between users.

That's an extremely interesting concept, and I think it can be applied to a lot of problems involving large amounts of data - web search, say.

Oh, right. It makes nice trees, too. :P

It seems to me the program is intended for much larger trees than ones used in Blades of Avernum, but I only read the summary.

Now that's where different graphic manipulating programs, like Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro and GIMP step in.

Oh, that's easy. Photoshop as a resize feature that works pretty well… auto-scale, too. Very useful for all Blades graphics design.

I intend to later this year, along with a couple of other games, now that I'm back among the gainfully employed. However, there are some other things I'm saving up for first.
