quote:Not true. Point in fact is that there are examples of each within our own, real-life history. And last time I checked, WWII was not started because of shaping, nor was the Holocaust's victims composed of Drayks. There have been several tyrants, a couple of which are still in power today. And canisters/Geneforges are not prerequisites to becoming a mad Rebel. quote:Again, not true. There's been more wars in the past century for us, real-life beings then there have been in the Shaper world. I think I've read or heard somewhere that some SHC victims had abnormally high levels of Manganese in their body. Manganese is found in trace amounts in all known forms of life on this planet. Certain forms of Manganese oxidize when they contact organic material, and this oxidization process can produce enough heat to ignite some organic materials. So maybe some SHC cases had a bit to much Manganese in their body, some of it oxidized, and they went up in flames. -------------------- I tried to think of something witty to put here. I have no idea what you're talking about, but Colchis sounds familiar somehow... EDIT: Now I remember. The ruins of Colchis in the Krizsan province, right? Okay, now I know what you're talking about. In Colchis, there's a secret room in the stable that is home to a ghost. Talk to him, and he'll tell you the location of two objects hidden in Colchis that will help you fight the slimes. The first one is in a pillar of a building just north of the stables. The second is west of first, in a room with an anvil. Walk up to the anvil, and if your party has enough strength, you will get the second object. To get past the barriers, you need to destroy all four slime pools in the lower level of the slime pit. Once you do that, the barrier will fade, and you can fight the master of the pit. Oh, and this probably belongs in the Avernum Trilogy forum, since this pertains to Avernum 3, not Avernum 4. EDIT 2: You asked where Colchis is, not what to do there. It's just across the bridge from Silvar. quote:First off, I was under the impression that, until recently, the shapers had been very successful in keeping the peace. Wars suggests there's been more than one in the past 20 or so years. Secondly, the above items I quoted would likely have happened whether shaping existed or not. It just would have happened under different circumstances. I don't know if they would be better or worse, or when and how they happened, but they most certainly would happen. quote:Shaping and magic are tools, just like a sword or baton. They are not inherently good nor evil. It all depends on the person using them. If no one used them, then they would have no power over others. However, there will always be that one person who uses them, and generally not for good. Think of it this way. If you insure your house from fire, does that mean you shouldn't have a fire extinguisher? -------------------- Scenarios need reviews! Please rate these scenarios at the CSR after playing them! I have no idea. However, there's an underground tunnel that also leads to that room somewhere in the vicinity of Cotra. It's in or near one of the farmhouses. -------------------- Scenarios need reviews! Please rate these scenarios at the CSR after playing them! There's four or five tunnels that head down. One of them leads to a small tomb, while the rest lead to the chamber you need to enter. One of them does not have any traps. quote:Here's your problem. You need to kill a spirit being in the lower level of the Draco mines. Also, remember that you need to report this to the general of Fort Draco. EDIT: I just remembered. You also need to contact a Vahnatai crystal in the lower levels of the Draco mines to complete the mission. You'll receive a mark on your hand when you do this. EDIT 2: Also, if you want to kill a creature that you've tamed, simply enter combat, click the Attack button (it has a drawing of a sword on it), and then click on the creature you want to attack. Remember that this will make that creature hostile. You can also do this with friendly people, but expect a nasty reaction if you do it in a town. I posted this in the other thread, but just to be on the safe side... Does Exile run in 640x480? If it does, simply locate the main application, right-click it, select 'properties' from the drop down menu, go to the Compatibility tab, and check the box that says something along the lines of 'Run this program in 640x480'. Then, every time you start the application, Windows switches the resolution for you. Hope this helps. -------------------- I tried to think of something witty to put here. Needless to say, I failed. Also, if you already have the aforementioned item and just can't kill them, wait until you get some more experience and better spells. Once you have Arcane Shield, Repel Spirit, and a nice arsenal of offensive and healing spells, you can take them down without breaking a sweat. Except for the Black Shade of Ice. That guy is tough no matter how you prepare. But if you keep your spellcasters/archers back far enough to avoid AE attacks by any of the Shades, and use several shielding spells on your warriors before having them engage, you should do fine. -------------------- Scenarios need reviews!
