I wish I had a copy to post of an old cartoon. I believe it was the New Yorker, but it was posted on a door that I passed regularly. A patent examiner and applicant are standing at a window. The examiner is holding a raygun plug into an outlet and pointing it out the window. Examiner says, "Death ray, fiddlesticks. Why it doesn't even slow them down." quote:Actually you'd be amazed at how many make it through because the original clincial trials for approval are 6 weeks, but the patients after approval are given it for years. That's why Merck got in so much trouble with Vioxx over the cutoff date on their trials. The second trick is to divide adverse effects into so many subcategories as to make the chance of an adverse effect seem to be less than 1%. Flip through the Physician's Desk Reference and see how many ways digestive bleeding can be listed by site. Unless you get fatalities you can usually continue to sell drugs with major problems. Thalidomide is making a comeback as long as it doesn't go to pregnant women. Most anti-ulcer drugs that are now over the counter, Tagamet, Zantac, and Pepcid, are now known to cause memory loss and other brain damage. Some antidepressants can cause mood changes making the users violent to the point of murder. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

In regards to whether Israel will attack Iran over it's nuclear program - The US gave Israel an ambiguous response so we can cheer or condemn them based upon the result. It's similar to the one LBJ gave Israel before the 6 Day War. Israel denies rumors that it is sending bombers on training missions to Gilbraltar in preparation. The problem with troop surge is that there is no indication that they will be used effectively. Plus there is already an equipment shortage for the troops that are already there, Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

That's only because Jeff kept revising the game to prevent people from wandering around and doing too many things out of order. When you find gates that won't open it's a good sign that this isn't where you are supposed to go at this point in time. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Drug makers spend lots of money sending representatives to visit doctors and convince them to prescribe their drugs. The side effects and the fact that their drug maybe no better than a placebo (sugar pill) are usually minimized. They also like to push off label usage where they claim that it will help for other diseases that haven't been approved by the FDA. Sometimes these case are pure fraud and only harm patients. An example is antidepressants to elderly for dementia where it doesn't help and can increase the chance of bone fractures. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

You can copy the save game files to a flash drive if you have progressed enough to want to keep them. Archive them if you have a lot. When you restore the game you can copy the files back and replace the blank ones. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

You always have government funding for research that isn't profitable for companies, but might have real potential. Microsoft writes buggy software because they steal code from other companies and don't spend time of writing good code. Only recently was their a penalty for writing bad code and it still only made a slight improvement. I think back for Windows 2000, the Wall Street Journal wrote a story about a typical day for Microsoft programmers. They start the morning getting the overnight bug report from the beta testers. They spend the morning fixing yesterday's work. After lunch they write new code if they finished fixed their old mistakes. Then they go home and the beta testers get to find out how many new bugs made it into the program. Eventually the product is sold with whatever bugs leftover for the next upgrade. Considering the last mod compiled a massive database about these forums, it really helps to have something on the other mods. Not that I'm implying that Aran did anything underhanded since he may have just used old fashioned bribery to gain his position. So just send me model number, color and delivery information so you can get yours. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

I used the speech as a good time to catch up on my crossword puzzle. It's amazing how long some one can talk without saying anything useful. Most of the proposals were a rehash of earlier statements. As Webb pointed out the alternative fuels have been proposed for several years and not much has been done for an item from a State of the Union address. Darfur isn't going anywhere since the US doesn't have ground forces it can spare for an oil poor area. The UN isn't able to get permission to do anything. The Arabs aren't going to go against one of their own to help out black Africans. Genocide as usual. You can tell how much even the government thinks about it by who doesn't show up. You used to get all the Supreme Court justices and this time only 5 and those were mostly Republican appointees. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

It would make the game more interesting since you would have to think more coming into a major encounter. No more let's see what happens and if I die well I'll just reload and use the information to do better. If you have to replay a significant portion of the game, then you will plan ahead. Criminal history isn't a problem in today's army. They'll consider your sniping skill a plus and ignore that little skribbane problem. After all they are taking skinheads and training them so they can cause more trouble when they get out. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

The Southforge Citadel Geneforge was made by the drakons to create cannonfodder for the Rebellion. It appears to be deliberately weak so those serviles and humans that use it won't be a real challenge to the drakons. Also considering the side effects even without using a canister, it wasn't well made. I think this is a drakon plot to sow chaos by creating a large number of unstable people and then release them into the world. Meanwhile the drakons stay back in safety making their army to attack when the shapers are weakened. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

That's because the US is going metric with the same resolve it's using to win the war on terror. There is no concerted effort to require people to switch so we get to stay out of step with the rest of the world. The metric system is only used where it is convenient. The only one I really had trouble talking to was Guardian Kantor in Valeya when I wanted credit for killing the Maddened Trall. As a lifecrafter or shocktrooper I had to block his path with creations so he couldn't pass until he talked. I tried to catch him at the points where he stopped, but that never worked. I see I died. At least I've got a lot company down here in Misc. It beats the long fight up to General forum with the perfected rat. No, I let the little bootlicker live. I think that it's because there are two sets of flags. One controls the letter and the other that you have talked to Trint even though you haven't got the quest yet. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |
