quote:Clashing ideals, huh? The ideal thing about ideals is that ideally, everyone sees ideals your way... The way I interpret Desert Pl@h's post is thus... So you have Western Liberals , who want everything to be dramatically changed so that everything is totally equal and communal and everyone has the same single right: to not offend other people. Nothing else is allowed. Some people will kill others to prevent violence. You have the Western Conservatives , who would prefer if we all lived in the southern states under whoever the Republican Candidate for that term happens to be (because the Republicans know better than the people, obviously), and spoke in King James English. These people would probably insist on going around in loincloths to simulate the Garden of Eden, but for the fact that ankles and shoulders are too scandalous to be seen. A few of these types will burn crosses. Then, you have the Arab types represented in this quote. First are the minority of Liberal Muslims , who live to serve Allah by being an example in the world and being a wonderful influence in politics. Granted, there are a few issues of religious purgings (uh... Jihads) of Christians, Atheists, and Jews (the Liberal Muslims seem to get along very well with the East Asian peoples), but for the most part, all they want is to be left alone and control their own people. And then, the ever-popular Conservative Muslims who believe that everything but conservative Islam is a scourge upon creation, and must eventually be either converted or purged. These people think that Americans are the greatest threat towards proper order, followed in a close second by the Jews, and any sympathizers with the first two to be number three. Conservative Muslim tend to keep some traditions of times around the founding of the religion, when a certain guy named Mohammed was trying to defend his nation. To the radical conservatives, terrorist attacks are merely defensive strikes to keep corruption away from the Muslim people. I tried to offend everyone equally, if you didn't get the picture. Ideally, the Western Liberals want the world to be equal. Then, the world will be at peace. Ideally, the Western Conservatives want all of the traditions to be held forever. Then, the world will be at peace. Ideally, Islam's goal is to convert or kill the whole world; Or, at least, conservative Islam thinks that way. Then the world will be at peace. Which I think is kinda wierd, in that there's a protective clause in the Koran that protects Jews and Christians from the punishment against infidels because they are both, I believe the term is, "Peoples of the Book", or something along that measure... (someone please correct me if otherwise) I personally don't like Islam. I don't hate it, either, I just think that it has several fundemental flaws and loopholes as a religion that have brought about the chaos we experience in the Middle East today. I don't think that wiping out all of the Arabs is the answer, either, though I do feel a mild bit of animousity toward them for blaming all of their "corruptive" problems on us. (Jeez... it's physics, let alone social dynamics... anything that is exposed to anything else will undoubtedly be changed in some way, shape, or form) In regards to my previous post, I had no idea that the publishing of these cartoons was determinatively for instigation. In that respect... public media is made for instigation, but outright disrespect is irresponsible, even if it gets the results it wants. There are ways to get the same results without getting people killed in the process. -------------------- The Silent Assassin has prematurely returned from his stealth mission against the French to keep me from embarassing myself further. -------------------- -Lenar Labs What's Your Destiny? I've seen several things like this in production recently. The biggest medieval RPG/FPS that the PC gaming community is preparing for (this is according to input from one of my more devoted PC gaming friends) is Elder Scrolls: Oblivion . So the RPG/FPS isn't exactly an original concept. Also according to my friend, very similar is the anticipated Project Offset, which is only an FPS, but has elements of RPG. My comp can't support the graphics for either one of them (I barely got Half-Life 2 to run), so I don't really care right now... -------------------- The Silent Assassin believes that he has been turned into a chicken. The item list varies from scenario to scenario, depending on how the author designs his/her custom items. And if you can't find the base list, you aren't looking hard enough... I managed to find one within a minute of opening Internet Explorer (using high-speed, granted). There are several ways of creating your own, if you feel ambitious. My favorite is going into the Character Editor and giving your party each item, one by one. It isn't the fastest or easiest way to compile such a list, but it discourages cheating. :D -------------------- The Silent Assassin has made it known to me that he prefers his pizza cold. This may lead to tension between us, as I prefer mine freshly baked. -------------------- -Lenar Labs What's Your Destiny? Ushmushmeifa: Lenar's power is almighty and ineffable. I would like to suggest that you check your entire script for that missing semicolon. Depending on what text editor you're using, line 38 according to BoA may not be line 38 according to your editor. -------------------- -Lenar Labs What's Your Destiny? Congrats, Smoo, on a great scenario. There are a few small things that I found while playing that you may want to check up on. I use a windows system. 1. In the Nephil fortress, the southern door to the room with the nephil chief and giants does not require the key to get through. 2. Under Blood Citadel, you make a big deal out of the training area, but the party can't train. I don't know if it's a glitch with BoA or your scripting, but I found it frustrating. 3. While accessing an outdoor area after fighting giants (I must admit, I forget which one), BoA gave an error message about an unmatched left parenthesis. 4. You don't have any place where you can sell items. 5. In the room with the portal, the messages about throwing a fireball on the machinery come up every time one of the party steps on the space. This becames somewhat annoying while fighting the giant king. 6. This isn't so much a problem as a suggestion, but there aren't any rocks under the Blood Fortress. This became quite a challenge, as at first, I did not understand your lack of usefulness challenge. (Wouldn't giants' bones work too?) The suggestion would be to either use something already in the dungeon (such as the bones from the seplucher), or to provide a source of rocks somewhere, to make the problem a bit less... "crap, I can't find anything that works down here, what do i do now???" Also, as a storyteller, I have an issue that I'd like to raise with you. You never resolve the story behind Polonius's blessing, which is the almost central point of the scenario. Depsite these, I found magus of cattalon to be a good scenario, and am looking forward to anything else you may produce. -Lord Grimm -------------------- The Silent Assassin has informed me that he has yet to play Magus of Cattalon, but will be doing so soon. -------------------- -Lenar Labs What's Your Destiny? The most common unhandled exceptions in Windows that I have encountered occured when someone accidentally used windows, doors, and such in a wall terrain that doesn't have them. But that exception has some "s"s in it, unfortunately. Although I think I may have seen that particular exception when I first played through Bassikava, trying to access the final floor of the dragon's lair. I had to reinstall the scenario to get it working. I never figured out what caused it. -------------------- The Silent Assassin told me once that he dreams of one day ruling the cosmos. Dikiyoba wandered for a week... I wandered in and out since the creation of BOA... We didn't think of actually joining the forum until we came together to start writing scenarios. We figured that if we were going to become involved, we should get to know the community we were diving into. I don't suppose that any of you have played the relatively recently released PC game F.E.A.R.? I'm not exactly one for massive amounts of gore; however, the way that the back story is revealed through a combination of cutscenes, communications with the villain, and that GIRL is brilliant. If you're going for art, like graphcal art, My favorite would have to be Riven. No, you don't have all of that 3-D, but I've always liked the originality that went into the creaion of the islands. EDIT: -------------------- The silent assassin just yelled at me very loudly for not posting a quote from him. I hope he's satisfied now.
