I had a similar idea a while back for a scenario I'd probably never get around to doing. It would take place in a city, and thieves would come out at night. Basically, there'd be two copies of every town section, one for night and one for day. Ticks would never advance until you entered an inn. When you went to sleep, you could tell the innkeeper whether you wanted to get woken up at night or during the day. Don't know if this helps. Modifying the way time advances is much more slick than my idea. -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: I will not use hostages as bait in a trap. Unless you're going to use them for negotiation or as human shields, there's no point in taking them. Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

I refuse to believe any of these conspiracy theories until one of them features a vahnatai in a tutu (I'm still trying to figure out why that was the first thing to pop in my head after reading this article). Really, the most likely reason why beings with the power of shaping life exist in both Avernum/Exile and Geneforge is because JV likes the idea of beings with the power of shaping life. After reading the latest Terry Brooks installment, I think that not joining Avernum with Geneforge would be a very good idea. -------------------- See the l0veli lakes Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

You know, there's a reason why D&D 3.0 stopped allowing summoned creatures from being able to summon allies... -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: If I am using the hero's girlfriend as a hostage and am holding her at the point of imminent death when confronting the hero, I will focus on her and not him. He won't try anything with his true love held hostage. On the other hand, the fact that she has been weak, slow-witted, naive and generally useless up to this point has no bearing on her actions at the moment of dramatic climax. Legacy of Darkness, oddly enough, is still on track. I've probably got around ten hours left of designing, then alpha testing. Expect a beta call early October. Another reason why people don't talk about their scenarios is because they suck. At least, this is why I don't talk about mine much. After returning to it after over three months, I realized I didn't really like the plot any more. Oh well. -------------------- Roll the dice to see if I'm getting drunk! - The Dead Alewives Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

Ampersands aren't outputted when placed in strings. For example, if I had a book containing the string "PAYROLLS & PAYCHECKS - ...", it would be outputted as "PAYROLLS _PAYCHECKS - ..." (I could be wrong about the number of spaces, but there was an underscore printed). On an unrelated note (and probably not a bug), animated terrain is not animated when you have fast effects selected in the preference menu. Caught me off guard when I was testing some of my terrain (What? It's written exactly the same as in this scenario, and it works there... or not... hmmm...). -------------------- Wi n0t trei a h0liday in Sweden thi yer? By Ephesos: quote:PHIL 325: Risk, Choice, and Rationality, if that helps any. For Alorael, I'm guessing the philosophy aspect comes from rationality. Anyway, to maintain this thread's usefulness: -------------------- Larry, Moe, and Curly are having a pistol duel. Larry has an accuracy of 0.3; Moe, 0.8; and Curly, 1.0. Each round, everyone must fire one and only one shot. Larry fires first, then Moe, then Curly. Where does Larry's best chance of winning the duel lie: shooting at Moe or Curly? (And please: don't say things like Larry runs away, or Larry disobeys the rules and doesn't shoot. Art majors seem to think of this as 'creative thinking'.) Can the general public suggest other alternatives? This is SpidWeb General after all, not a cheaply made linearly designed GameBoy cartridge. How about: (g) You get your pet to retreat and sit down next to the grandson, explaining to him the eventual consequences of a life full of violence and spite. (h) You sneak up behind the grandson and beat the living tar out of him until he calls off his pet. Personally, I like (i): You beg Arancaytar to smite the grandson with all the incomprehensible power of C'thulhu. EDIT: Choose your destiny? -------------------- (Picks up a picket sign and begins campaigning for equal representation of the elements Air and Void.) Alright, so today was my first day of classes (blows raspberry at all the early-starters), and one of my Arts options is a philosophy course on gaming theory. After spending about half an hour telling us that the course is a real philosophy course and giving us a pep talk to keep us motivated through the year (which made me apprehensive; why not let the content speak for itself?), the prof made us swear the following pledge: quote:I get what he was saying, but it got me thinking. I'm wondering what other people think of this: I have made mistakes in my ideology in the past. I will undoubtably continue to do so in the future. I am not infallible. I have left mistakes go uncorrected for a long time, even when other people tell me to fix them. So why should I hold myself as the final judge to what is true or not? -------------------- What if they run out of ammo? - Question from an Art major in response to a well-defined gaming question. Don't worry, I didn't. Anyway, went over my code, changed everything so it used the buffer, and now it works. Why assigning a string to a declared variable gets a semicolon error is beyond me. -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: I will not appoint a relative to my staff of advisors. Yes, I did declare it as a string. Guess I'm going to have to change my code. The only thing is that I'm getting errors from scripts I alpha tested before, script I could have sworn worked fine before. I've been getting a lot of errors from Alint in my scripts. All of them original when I assign a string to a variable. Is something else wrong, or do I have to use buffer calls instead of assigning strings to variables (I really want to make sure this is the problem before I go over all of my scripts)? -------------------- We interrupt this scheduled quote to bring you a rant. Nikki, didn't you just finish a scenario? LoD1 needs a few dialog changes for a VTE, some scripting for a boss battle, and alpha testing. Since I'm lazy, expect a beta call sometime in early October (give or take infinity). -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: I will funnel some of my ill-gotten gains into urban renewal projects.
