Originally by the Mystic: quote:Diprosopus = troll That should help clear things up, I think. Originally by Student of Trinity: quote:Heh. Another possibility, given that mystery novels tend to become series--which makes sense for detectives but not so much for the regular people who just happen to stumble on murders everywhere they go--we could have a series about a person who recognizes this trend and tries to get away from people, only to have the bodies appear in increasingly outrageous ways. It'll start with a drive-by in a big city, soon come to a body falling out of the sky on a deserted island, and before you know it the protagonist will be coerced into helping solve the murder of an Inthiliiv couple on Europa. To be fair, it is a fairly nice poll. All the PC-shapeable creations are on there (well, except for the ornk) and they look like they're spelled correctly. Having all the options and being understandable is pretty darn important. Dikiyoba. -------------------- Episode 4: Spiderweb Reloaded Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Hmm. I realize I've never actually done Derenton Freehold or Khima-Uss. I guess I got bored after wiping out Dillame. The Western Morass was pretty difficult the first time through but tedious when nothing but the constant spawns were left. Therile Colony was surprisingly difficult, but I did wipe it out as early as I could. The Forsaken Shaper Camp was easily the most difficult, which really kind of irked Dikiyoba. Why can a camp that brought all its people and supplies in on a few small boats produce seemingly endless rots while the Western Morass, with its access to the rest of the continent, can only manage to summon vlish? -------------------- Episode 4: Spiderweb Reloaded Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

1. The creations you make tie up essence while they live. So if you have 21 essence and then create a fyora worth 11 essence, you now only have 10 essence. The only way to get back to 21 essence is if the fyora dies or you reabsorb it. 2. If I understand what you are asking correctly, you created a cryoa? You can learn a new version of a creation by learning how to create it three times. So, in your case, using the Geneforge gives you one level in creating fyoras. Then I'm assuming you bought two more levels from Jared. That gives you the ability to create a cryoa. As far as the "hunted down" part goes, Avernum almost lost the war even with the Avernites united and the difficulty the Empire had teleporting supplies and soldiers down and the inexperience the Empire had in fighting in caves. If half the Avernites went above ground and the other half stayed, both groups would have been crushed. If all the Avernites had gone above ground, then the Empire had plenty of experience fighting on the surface and would have had less difficulty with supplies and soldiers (even if it was in a remote location) and so they still would have been defeated. But the difficulty of teleporting is probably the bigger factor. Dikiyoba. -------------------- Episode 4: Spiderweb Reloaded Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

This is a reoccuring problem for Windows users. There's nothing Kelandon can do to fix it. Dikiyoba posted a workaround here. It's ugly, but as far as Dikiyoba knows, it works. -------------------- Episode 4: Spiderweb Reloaded Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Originally by Lepus Timidus: quote:I think social conditioning helps define what "decent" is and isn't. quote:And your mentality sees things in black and white that are not. There are extremists who will never give in and never compromise on both sides. But you also have a bunch of people who support the Shapers but could be convinced to support the Rebels in the right situation. You have people who are almost entirely neutral. And you have a bunch of humans and intelligent creations who support the Rebels but could be convinced to support the Shapers (or start a new rebellion) in the wrong situation. If the Rebellion acts as ruthlessly as you want it too, it will repulse people. The moderate Shaper supporters will only be driven further into the Shaper camp. The people who were neutral will support the Shapers. And the moderate Rebels will desert or start their own faction. The Rebels need more supporters to have any chance of winning the war, not less. Besides, the Shapers already demonstrated a "If you aren't with us, you're against us and therefore must die" mentality. The result was oppression and genocide. If the Rebellion takes the same mentality, it will result in exactly the same outcome. The drakons are already showing signs of it. I admit I don't have any answers. The Shapers have all the power, so there aren't many options for the Rebels to take. But the Rebels don't have to win by crushing the Shapers. They win if the Shapers agree to let intelligent creations live freely and in peace. The more supporters they can get, the easier it is for them to do that. And not being blinded to the possibility of compromise because anyone connected to the Shapers is "the enemy" also helps. Dikiyoba. -------------------- Episode 4: Spiderweb Reloaded • Episode 5: Spiderweb Resistance Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Originally by Lepus Timidus: quote:Yes, you should. Thank you. quote:They have an entire culture in which all humans are born into and live their whole lives under. There are no other cultures to look too, no different opinions to choose from. Shaper society controls people just as much as Shapers control creations. quote:But if you are justified in waging total war, then the Shapers are justified waging total war too. They can't afford to lose troops picking out the soldiers from the civilians. And besides, the civilians are helping the combatants in some way or another. Now the Shapers are justified in killing every servile, drayk, and drakon they find. And they can do it without guilt. Congratulations. Perhaps what we need is a revised stunning system now that the AP system has been changed. Also, battle disciplines would certainly help solve the weakness (and uncoolness) of battle creations. Thahds would know just the first two or three, maybe, and war tralls would know them all. Originally by Lepus Timidus: quote:I don't have G3, so could you please post a screenshot for me? quote:But the humans have spent their whole lives under Shaper dominance and ideology too, so in a sense, they've also been brainwashed. As players, we're given the good, bad, and ugly facts about both the Shapers and Rebels. Most civilians only get the good facts about Shapers and bad facts about Rebels. If the Shapers tell a shopkeeper who has very little experience or contact with serviles that they are happy working in the fields and the ones that aren't happy are dangerous and so must be destroyed to keep people safe, then how is the shopkeeper to know different? In many cases, it's just ignorance. Originally by Xel: quote:You only need one contradicting example to disprove a blanket statement. That said, Dikiyoba does seem to remember a statement somewhere about drayks acting as a memory storage due to their long lives. It seems out of place, so maybe Dikiyoba is just making it up. They work exactly the same way the items that stats or resistances for your character work. While an item is equipped, it will give the bonus to all your creations. Bonus intelligence doesn't count towards the two intelligence points needed to control a creation, however. I think this is what happening, but I could be wrong. Dread curse removes one level from every skill. Dread curse is displayed as a skill. So it ends up removing a level from itself. You still have those levels of dread curse but they aren't being displayed properly. Originally by Nioca: quote:It's important to remember that mass school shootings are infrequent--they're just guaranteed to make national news when they do occur. So any preventive measure has to be cost-effective and extremely convienient to be worth it. Also, to a certain extent, the more often emergency measures are taken, the less effective they become. My high school abused the lockdown to the point where it was a joke. If there had been an actual incident, it would be hard to get everyone to take it seriously until too late.
