4.0 This game was not fun. I tried to like it. I really did. But I only made it to Fort Draco before I gave up (and it took me about a month to get that far). There were probably good things (the shades, divine retribution, combat more interesting than goblins and nephilim) about it, but I never got that far. Two things killed my enjoyment: 1. The encumbrance/inventory system combined with the "seamless world." It took forever to get back to town to drop stuff off and heal up. And I was always having to drop stuff at the beginning of every combat. It was just tedious. I could have gotten used to it or built future parties differently except that... 2. The game didn't motivate me at all. I never cared that Avernum was in danger or wanted to find out what happened next. Whether because of a boring plot, it taking place in Avernum-but-not-really-Avernum, or because of something else entirely, it just wasn't interesting. Dikiyoba. Why in the world are you rating a game you don't really like at a 7.5? (Then again, I may be the extreme one.) Anyway, I bump my rating up to a 9.5. I haven't played E2, so everything about it was fun and it got a lot of replay. It's definitely the best of the trilogy. The Empire War and the vahnatai made for an excellent plot. No complaints about the engine. I still like that heretic vahnatai fort, for some unknown reason. Also, I have recently (re)discovered the joy of Divine Warrior. Finally, it has nostalgic value. Let's see... I have not played BoE, so I will make no comparisons between the two. :P The BoA editor can do a lot but it's fairly difficult (for me, at least) to work with. I miss level 3 haste acting on everyone (as a preset spell) but I have no real complaints with the engine. There are still some irredeemablely awful scenarios but by now they are outnumbered by the good and really good ones and it seems that many more good scenarios will be released in the future. Dikiyoba gives it an 9. Edit: Bolded score. And raised it. [ Friday, February 16, 2007 13:29: Message edited by: The Dikiyora ] Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Anyone who votes for me as an oldbie is probably new enough to vote for Randomizer as an oldbie as well. And given that you are using my stories as an explanation for the numbers, I'm kind of disappointed you didn't include someone like The Lurker, who doesn't post much at all but gets a fairly large part in the story. You don't get experience for killing much weaker monsters, so if you are only fighting much weaker monsters, that could be the problem. Dikiyoba. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

*Facepalms Nioca* It's Nalyd (Dylan spelled backwards, if that helps), not Nayld or Nylad. Dikiyoba also already took care of the disappearing accounts. We just need to get the missing ones back now. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

I think I've spent more time trying to get it to work than actually playing it, but anyway... Behold! Chapter 38: Several Spiderwebbers Complain About Dikiyoba's Tardiness And Dikiyoba Gets Annoyed But Then Realizes That They Are Right And Finally Gets Around To Writing The Next Chapter (Okay, so Dikiyoba didn't really call it that. Heustess in G1, right? You need to enter The Sentinels from the east and get past the three guardians somehow. Then, if you have a high enough leadership, you can convince Heustess to let you by without losing endurance by agreeing to kill Goettsch. That's the quest. Of course, then it ruins your ability to meet peaceably with Goettsch unless you have a high enough leadership to convince him you were lying to Heustess. Dikiyoba doesn't know what happens if you go back to Heustess without killing Goettsch, though.
