The Darkside Loyalists are a group of Empire agents led by led by Dorikas (who teleports to safety before your party can kill him) and based in the ruins of Erika's Fortress who are causing problems for Avernum because they don't like the fact that Avernum and their precious Empire are cooperating. Is that close enough?

Bump them up anyway. (And we could always get a mod to maintain them once in a while if we asked nicely. Or bribed them.)

Let's start off at a 7.0 and go from there.

For the novelty of playing something so awful: +0.5
For being able to travel with your dog: +0.5
For the dog having an inventory: +0.5
For the dog being useless in combat: -0.5
For the girlfriend being useless in combat: -0.5
For me not being able to figure out how combat was supposed to work: -1.0
For me not being able to remember anything about the graphics (meaning that I repressed them): -1.0
For sharing a background sound with Geneforge and making me like Geneforge less because of it: -2.0
For the snakes: -0.5
For more snakes: -0.5
For the rats: -0.5
For some sort of navigation problem I had on the level with all the rats: -0.5
For being so bad I deleted it incorrectly in my haste to save my computer from utter destruction and now have to put up with the indignatity of it being listed on my Add/Remove Program list until I get a new computer: -1.0
For being so terrible Dikiyoba will be able to make fun of it for the rest of Dikiyoba's life: +3.0, which brings the total to 3.5

4.0

This game was not fun. I tried to like it. I really did. But I only made it to Fort Draco before I gave up (and it took me about a month to get that far). There were probably good things (the shades, divine retribution, combat more interesting than goblins and nephilim) about it, but I never got that far. Two things killed my enjoyment:

1. The encumbrance/inventory system combined with the "seamless world." It took forever to get back to town to drop stuff off and heal up. And I was always having to drop stuff at the beginning of every combat. It was just tedious. I could have gotten used to it or built future parties differently except that...

2. The game didn't motivate me at all. I never cared that Avernum was in danger or wanted to find out what happened next. Whether because of a boring plot, it taking place in Avernum-but-not-really-Avernum, or because of something else entirely, it just wasn't interesting.

Those are helpful people or people worthy of respect, not oldbies. There may be a lot of overlap, but don't try to equate them.

Why in the world are you rating a game you don't really like at a 7.5? (Then again, I may be the extreme one.)

Anyway, I bump my rating up to a 9.5. I haven't played E2, so everything about it was fun and it got a lot of replay. It's definitely the best of the trilogy. The Empire War and the vahnatai made for an excellent plot. No complaints about the engine. I still like that heretic vahnatai fort, for some unknown reason. Also, I have recently (re)discovered the joy of Divine Warrior. Finally, it has nostalgic value.

Let's see... I have not played BoE, so I will make no comparisons between the two. :P

The BoA editor can do a lot but it's fairly difficult (for me, at least) to work with. I miss level 3 haste acting on everyone (as a preset spell) but I have no real complaints with the engine. There are still some irredeemablely awful scenarios but by now they are outnumbered by the good and really good ones and it seems that many more good scenarios will be released in the future.

Dikiyoba gives it an 9.

Edit: Bolded score. And raised it.

I haven't been around too much longer than Randomizer, though, and while it took him a while to be active in General, he has had about the same level of activity as me for many months now. Anyone who votes for me as an oldbie is probably new enough to vote for Randomizer as an oldbie as well.

And given that you are using my stories as an explanation for the numbers, I'm kind of disappointed you didn't include someone like The Lurker, who doesn't post much at all but gets a fairly large part in the story.

You don't have to be an oldbie to be part of the community (assuming you meant "Spiderweb" by "this community"). All you have to do is be active and non-annoying. :P

Not necessarily. It's sort of a hard quest to get. If you enter from the west (that is, from The Great Temple), then you've already passed Heustess and he won't bother you. If you reach the west side of the map by disabling all the mines and turrets, then you've already passed Heustess and he won't bother you.

Zeviz's third definition allows Dikiyoba to 2.5 of an oldbie, which is more than Dikiyoba will get with most other definitions. Don't knock it. :P

You don't get experience for killing much weaker monsters, so if you are only fighting much weaker monsters, that could be the problem.

*Facepalms Nioca*

It's Nalyd (Dylan spelled backwards, if that helps), not Nayld or Nylad.

Dikiyoba also already took care of the disappearing accounts. We just need to get the missing ones back now.

I think I've spent more time trying to get it to work than actually playing it, but anyway...

Behold! Chapter 38: Several Spiderwebbers Complain About Dikiyoba's Tardiness And Dikiyoba Gets Annoyed But Then Realizes That They Are Right And Finally Gets Around To Writing The Next Chapter (Okay, so Dikiyoba didn't really call it that. You'll have to read it to find out.)

Everything under the dashed lines in most people's posts (Dintiradan and Lenar being the most obvious exceptions). Most people add that in through their profile instead of adding it at the end of individual posts like you are.

They did nothing to upset Dikiyoba. Dikiyoba kills Tyranicus repeatedly because his reaction amuses Dikiyoba. Zephyr Tempest is just accident-prone. :P

Heustess in G1, right? You need to enter The Sentinels from the east and get past the three guardians somehow. Then, if you have a high enough leadership, you can convince Heustess to let you by without losing endurance by agreeing to kill Goettsch. That's the quest.

Of course, then it ruins your ability to meet peaceably with Goettsch unless you have a high enough leadership to convince him you were lying to Heustess.

Dikiyoba doesn't know what happens if you go back to Heustess without killing Goettsch, though.
