Two Script Errors (Solved) in Blades of Avernum

[rant] Creature scripts are by far the most difficult thing for me to work with. Doing anything beyond the most basic task is a lesson in futility and weird errors. [/rant]

I'm sorry you all had to hear that, it's been a long day fiddling with defective creature scripts.

The story of Job was written with a message like "Have faith in God during the hard times, your reward will be greater for it." God tempts Job's faith, and when Job passes the test he is rewarded.

A rough equivalent to modern times would be someone falling across hard times (Job's are caused by Satan, perhaps this would be just hard luck), but sticking with God and weathering it.

God smiting random people just because he hates humanity or revels in their suffering (like the ant image) wouldn't really apply here.

Edit: Wow two people beat me to it.

I'll have to agree with what PoD said about the absolute power issue. (Jesus I'm agreeing with him all over the place today, I feel like a yes-man :) ) The reason mortal rulers are generally corrupted by power is that they fear losing it. Some are genuinely sadistic and enjoy causing harm, but most simply want to stay in power.

Unless you think of God in a polytheistic way, its hard to imagine a supreme being needing to opress mortals to ensure his power. The only reason God would have to act in a "corrupt" manner would be just for amusement, like a kid setting ants on fire. Hopefully God is more mature than that.

I don't think anyone was flaming Micael, but his statements were poorly worded and needed clarification. Now we should be past it.

Hitler vs Stalin, lets see. Hitler hated the Jews (and many other groups) and set out to kill them. Stalin just didn't seem to value any life. He killed anyone who opposed communism and his regime, which is pretty standard in such set ups. However he also threw away loyal soldiers during world war II. Soldiers were looked at as practically meat, many were sent to battle without gear or even rifles, and no care was taken for their well-being. Hence the massive casualties suffered by the Soviets.

They both were crazy, Hitler hated people he didn't think were Aryan, Stalin just didn't care who died as long as his ends were achieved.

Somehow I completely overlooked that remark, but now I'll add that I agree with PoD. I haven't seen any inclination from Bush to either
a. commit genocide
b. impose a single party government and silence all opposition(lord knows we've heard enough evidence that he doesn't practice censorship.)

Hitler was a maniac. Bush has made some decisions that are controversial, but he isn't Hitler by a long shot.

Actually my dad wants it because it has the capabilitity to transfer video from computer to tv. His reasoning is that buying a video card or something that actually comes with decent software would cost almost as much as the xbox. The fact that Oblivion came out for xbox360 just makes it possible for me to stomach having an xbox in my house :)

My dad is thinking about buying an xbox 360, but not even for the games (yes reread that sentence.) I was originally ashamed at the thought of living in a house with an xbox (I'm a windows user, but that doesn't mean I have no standards). I cheered up when I realized that then I could play Oblivion.

Well its always easier to wait for kids to turn themselves in, which happens quite often. Myspace and online messaging just makes it easier.

You wouldn't believe how often people get busted for drinking because they brag about parties where teachers can hear. Theres pretty much no other way that a school could learn about such things unless either students were arrested, or parents complain.

The question is how can they stop this from happening in the future? The kids already had guns, and were a day away from pulling off their crazy scheme. If they hadn't given themselves away then this article would be very different.

Edit: About people getting caught drinking etc.- Why is it that whenever someone breaks the rules they have to either take a picture of themselves doing it, or tell many people about it?

General Cyril had camped his forces at the juncture between Angel's Rest and Aminro. His scouts had returned the day before with news that the way to Aminro was clear, yet they hadn't marched yet.

The red star had appeared in the sky that night, and all the men were skittish. Cyril had decided to camp there until it was decided what the lurid skys might mean.

Now it seemed that he might have been to cautious. His men could see the town of Angel's rest burning, and if Cyril wasn't careful his forces would be caught in the open by whoever had done this.

"General, we can not remain here. We must either march on Aminro as planned, or return to the safety of the walls of Sharimik."

He stood deliberating. At last he made a reluctant decision, "We will carry out the original plan, we must take Aminro in the name of the Enlightened Anama. The Archbishop entrusted me with this duty, I will not back down should the sky fall around me."

Whenever one of my friends sees me playing a Spiderweb game they say, "What the hell is this, you can't even tell what those graphics are supposed to be!! Turn on the PS2!"

The moral is that it takes a different gamer to enjoy Spiderweb style games, a type of gamer that often doesn't value a game just because it has good graphics, like console games. Obviously a lot of such gamers are on these boards. So believe it when people say they don't have lots of consoles.

I'd recommend using Wikipedia. I'm sure they have articles on such things. I personally have no knowledge of them.

Yes, I'm still alive. I haven't written an IC in a while, but nothing important is going on where I am. I'll be sure to write an IC soon.

I don't know what you are asking Wonko, but if its an attack on the Dominion, then probably not right this second. It looks like there's gonna be a conflict in North Karnold soon, and I wanna wrap that up before going South.

The point is that when melee targets got close to it, it forgot all about its antimagic cloud attack.

This problem has been pretty much cleared up. I'm now using Kel's fieldshooter script (I think thats what it's called, I'm not on my normal computer.) The script uses variables to save targets like Niemand suggested, and with a few small changes it does what I want. Now I just have to get around to doing dialog for my scenario, I've been avoiding it.

Maybe we should have a poll to decide what the general consensus thinks the new titles should be. That way we can pretend Spiderweb is democratic, at least until Stareye completely disregards it and does whatever the hell he wants. :)

I'm surprised I didn't get closer to a gnome or some kind of solitary character.

-------

Alignment:
Chaotic Good characters are independent types with a strong belief in the value of goodness. They have little use for governments and other forces of order, and will generally do their own things, without heed to such groups.

Race:
Humans are the 'average' race. They have the shortest life spans, and because of this, they tend to avoid the racial prejudices that other races are known for. They are also very curious and tend to live 'for the moment'.

Primary Class:
Fighters are the warriors. They use weapons to accomplish their goals. This isn't to say that they aren't intelligent, but that they do, in fact, believe that violence is frequently the answer.

Secondary Class:
Rangers are the defenders of nature and the elements. They are in tune with the Earth, and work to keep it safe and healthy.

Very much better. Killer poison was one of my favorite boss killing methods, and I almost turned the game off when I saw it wasn't in Avernum. Plus Exile had sleep clouds, antimagic fields, and curse clouds, just to name a few off the top of my head.

I had already tried taking out the who_hit_me part of the script, but I tried again and it still isn't working. The weird thing is that my pc isn't even attacking the monster, I just march him next to the monster and stand there.

I've used several different archer, ray, and breath type monsters, all of them decide to stop attacking the mage, and attack the melee fighter. They never refocus their attack back on the mage, which is pretty much the entire purpose of the edits in magekiller2.

Evidently the editor is just being, as *i said, fickle. I'll probably just take Niemand's solution and make a variable with the correct targets number in it. Don't be surprised if I have more questions on this script.
