I want the party to keep potions that will only harm them (like searing balm). thanks anyway. God, these loops, I never used them, but they are so handy! Thanks for showing me them!

Another question: I made a custom special ability, but I don't know what th game will do with it. The ability shouldn't be there immeditaly when the scenario starts, they should get it at some point, but I don't know if the gmae automatically ives it or not. then something else, how do i give it? for now i just did set_char_trait(0,0,1), but i don't know if that's correct. i looked in the docs and other scenario's, but didn't find what i needed.

Sounds good to me. thanks. I take it that i is the itm number, but what exactly is j?

EDIT: never mind. I already understand it. j is how many times the loop has been run, every time the loop has finished it adds 1 up to j, therey making it possible... Okay. I understand it. thanks!

Hooray? I wouldn't say that avtually...

Most favorite piece on my trombone. Difficult. there are many things i love to play. Actually, i love everything which has some nice solo's. I always liked to play wagner things. its so beautifull! What i hate to play are pieces in which i have nothing or only uninteresting things to play. that is pachelbel's kanon for example. I'll think later of more things.

I want to take all energy, healing and all other potions from the player at a certain moment in game. Also taking wands may be a good idea, but i was wondering if there is a quick and efficient way of doing this, instead of using char_has_item about 23586012,56 times.

yes, it can be done, you just didn't look closely enough in the docs. Look in "NPC's joining party calls."

two things:

1) Yo forgot to mention which game it is (I assume its BoA)

2) This maybe the wrong forum.

anyway, use the opneing stoen next to the glowing (green) portcullises. You'll get a message you hear a plop or smething and then the gates open.

We, as you said, need more designers. I understand that many people are already bussy making a scenario, but its going to slow. The big problem, in my opinion, is, that many players don't dare to start with designing because of the Avernumscript. they think its too difficult, that they wont gonna finish it. to solve this, we might need something to reassure people. maybe new, more usefull tutorials, tht explain everything in a more satisfying way, so people will think its a lot easier then they thought. I heard that a new version of the editor is being made. if that version will be easier to use, people may also start designing more. I think, that if we can make it easier for designers with no experience in coding at all (like me), that more scenario's will be made. heck, I'll tke myself as an example. The only reason i waited so long with starting to make my scenario, were only because I was afraid of coding! Not so much the editor. Luckily, kelandon had a few good tutorials, but otherwise i would have given up quite soon. I'm glad i didn't.

BoE has been around for more then ten years, i think, so its not surprising how many scenario's there are now for it. boA isn't around very long, so there are less scenario's. Actualy, its not like the other avernums. its more a tool for people to (as you already said) "create their own stories about Avernum." As long as there are people who want to tell their story, their will be scenarios made. i don't really worry about that.

Oh my god. This means I'll have to find a totally new way of making that script. Avernumscript! i love you!

EDIT: i made it work. just one small addition: A SDF which I set to 1, when you make an appointment. this SDF I also put in the scenario script (The START_STATE), in which it sets a variale to the current day.

that was a bit of a worthless explanation... If anybody wants to understand what i did, I'll post the script later, just ask.

Okay, thanks. I'm now going to see if the game really does what it should do. i had problems with variables already. if it wont work, i'll simply post the script here and see if one of you guys knows what the ailment is.

EDIT: Hmmm. Nope, it still doesn't work correctly. Now tell me. if a variable is set in one script, will it also be set in another variable? because what happens in the script i made, is that you make an appointment for the next day. In the scenario script I made two states, which tell you when you missed your appointment, and what day you have your appointment, as a reminder. the only problem is, that it seems asif the varible isn't set in that particular script, causing the game to immediatly say you missed your appointment. If its necessary, i'll also post the two scripts.

Well, thanks for all your support. What i basically want to achieve, is to get to a point that many characters in ym scenario and also situations in which you are in, seem to be realistic or funny (that funny part is my sense of humor. others may find it boring). For example: isn't it plain stupid that you can just charge into the mayor's office? if it were in real life you would have been stopped and arrested! No. In my scenario, at least at one of the five major (friendly) towns, you have to make an appointment before proceeding. In the others I'll come up with something that you'll also need permission to get to see the mayor.

The creation vats you mean, Cpeters? that might be an influence of geneforge (although i hate the game) or I had a lack of ideas. The main point is that i wanted to do new things in scripting which i hadn't done before while making ym scenario, and this was one of those things.

Cpeters: That explains why the code didn't work when i tried it.

Ephesos: thanks. Another problem cleared for the future. now can somebody explein exactly how it works in script? I know, I'm not easily satisfied, but I want to get to the bottom of this scripting bussines, so in the future I'll have to ask less.

*i: I have no idea what people thought of in the BoE era, i really don't. Its quite easy to say that nothing I put in ym scenario is original, ebcause it was put in one of the 300 scenario's for BoE. I'll look at the Lyceum. I think I'm already registered there, but I didn't look really at the codex. And the cashmachine, I already made it. It has a nice place near the park of the province's capital in which the scenario plays.

if somebody wants to know more, feel free to PM me and ask what you want to ask. This granted you wont tell anything to others who don't seem interested, and be mild. As long as you don't see how I made the towns, its quite easy to say its a worthless idea. Once you see the town, a bad idea may turn out to be a good one after all.

EDIT: One small question: How do you write a variable ins cript? Until now i did it this way, and the game did not complain:

m = get_current_tick(); Is this allright?
