OOC: okay, i know I myself said that we should stop the talking and start fighting, but I did want to say this. i only forgot to say it with the IC.

Ephesos, I understand that you are probably mad at me, but I couldn't resist the urge. also, a mage with a broken wand does seem like easy prey to me. i understand you want to kill Filbert immediatly, but what O din't understand is this sudden urge to just quit with the RP if it gets just a little rough and things you didn't want to happen. can anybody explain that to me please?

First: look out before you start being a smartass and being not-nice against respected members of the community (at least I respect him).

Second: i have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. this can have two reasons: I don't kno anything about the scenario, or you are unclear. wasn't there a readme with the scenario? most scenario's have one with some hints in it, i think.

Third: calm down. people will only help you if you calm down and be nice to people.

I hope I didn't make an enemy of you, but I had to say it.

Avernum:4 vs Blades Of Avernum which is the best? in Avernum 4

I haven't played alot of Avernum 4, but I can say that the graphics still bother me. however, knowing what is going to happen in the rest of the game is as intruiging as playing scenario's other people made, and see different styles of designing for once. As Stareye already said, I wouldn't be surprised to one day see the release of a long scenario with an interesting plot and the like. kelandon, with his Bahssikave (I hope I spelled it correctly now) already started an interesting plot which has potential. i heard rumors (for as far as it can be a rumor when you heard it from the designer himself) that he is making a sequel. this could be the start of a longer scenario with a more sophisticated plot.

I can't decide for you, but I would choose BoA.

if the call message_dialog immediatly gived the record option, then what are you worrying? I only use the dialog calls (add_dialog_str and the like) when there has to be made some sort of choice. this is ussualy when reading a book or climing down stairs, that sort a thing. i could put the record option back everywhere, but, unless the betatesters would all start complaining, you can expect I won't put hem back. Too much work.

OOC: enough with the talking, its time to start fighting! (By the way, i was surprised we already started, I thought we'd wait for cain. oh well)

IC:

The two groups stared at each other. Filbert and the uruk-hai's with evi grins, and the others with bewilderment. This will be easier then I thought it would be, he thought. Take that druid, wizard, mage, whatever he is for example. he doesn't even have his wand! its broken! pathetic. And the others, with there poor daggers and swords. I spit on them. He looked at his own sword. It was still burining with the intensity of a hundred blast furnaces. The rulers of the demonic era were right. The day will come. The day is there. The day of the death of the era of kings and mages.

"You are all going to die!" Filbert shouted at them. May the powers of the demonic rulers, orloki, Grah Hotz and... he sensed something. Cain? he looked around, and sensed the light vabrations of the tunnels. The others looked at him, not knowing what was going on, except the elf. She too was looking around, with a certain fear, filbert thought. Suddenly, he charged at them, the Uruk-Hai's took off and flew right at Sequioa and lisha. Lisha managed to escape and duck right at the moment the sharp claws wanted to rip her body open. Sequioa wasn't so luky. The claws got to him before he could get to them. He was thrown to the cave ceiling, landing on his back, were he kept lying. He stared at his wand. It was still broken. It really wasn't going to help him.

While the third Uruk-Hai and Filbert were still on their way to the others, Lisha quickly threw a dagger to her attacker. Direct hit. The uruk-hai turned around, pulled the dagger out of his leg and threw it back. "I'm a demonic creature! Your pathetic trinkets won't help you!" he shouted at Lisha. This surprised her, and the others. Sequioa turned to her, and said: "Lisha... he... he... has the po... wer..." And he collapsed, knowing talking will only make him more exhausted. Melora on the other hand, full with energy, turned to lisha and shouted the following:"Demonic creatures are mighty beings! they have the power, when attacking and hitting their prey, to learn things about that prey! one thing is their language!"

Lisha turned around to the uruk-Hai, slighty shocked. "Oh, great." She looked at her shoulder. A small stream of blood dripped on the cave floor.

He swung his blade. The others ducked. The uruk-Hai attacked. Edith managed to escape from the claws. She was making a potion. Fibert looked at it. I know that smell, it... hmmm. Wait, it's a healing potion! He immediatly ran to Edith, who shouted for help of the others. When everybody suddenly heard a voice in their mind, they paralized. Tuulentekija, knowing what it was, shouted to the others: "It's Edith, she can't talk, but uses our minds to communicate!" edith nodded, they saw filbert, they saw his blade, they saw the potion. Filbert ran to Edith, already raising his blade. I must kill that stupid woman. He swung his blade, missed Edith, hit the potion herbs. They seemed quite useless now.

Aaaah! he fell back. He was hit, and saw blood streaming down on his arm. He looked up and saw tuulentekija looking at him. "Filbert, you bastard, you are going down." Filbert, at first surprised by this sudden hit, jumped up. He looked around, and saw he was surrounded. "So you all want to die at once? fine with me," he said, while he saw three Uruk-Hai's closing in on the others. Now, the time has come. The day of flowing blood is today!

Now that we have the 3Deditor, its even more simple to "play" it without having the game registered. yu just walk around, and when you trigger a special encounter, you look it up in the script, and wee what should have happened.

Tell me if its wrong what I'm doing, but for some basic stuff, I design like I would play it. The record buttons is one of those things. If there is dialog that seems to me very useless to record (these are many things in my scenario. There are not many things that may be quite handy to record, and sometimes, it even can't be done, because I use message_dialog quite often, or does that automatically give the option to record?). other more significant stuff I usually let the player record.

Now that town works, I have problems getting out of that town. For some reason, the game places you at a totaly differet spot then it should. the code:

beginstate 10;
move_to_new_town(29,58,40);
break;

beginstate 11;
move_to_new_town(29,53,40);
break;
For some reason, the game puts you (when stepping on special 10) on spot 7,26.

This is the code of town 29, the town you are supposed to go to. the states 10 and 11 of town 29 are also moce_to_new_town calls. the strange thing is, that the game takes the town of the script of town 30, but the coordinates of the townscript of town 30. the code of town 29 is:

beginstate 10;
move_to_new_town(30,7,26);
break;

beginstate 11;
move_to_new_town(30,6,20);
break;
So the game takes the townnumber of town 30: so town 29. then it takes the coordinates of town 29: 7,26. This causes tha player to find himself on spot (29,7,26). Why is this happening?

I didn't forget to say that, but at the time I was writing that, we were about to have dinner.

As *i said, you have to define "choice" as a variable in the script. You do this by writing under the "variables;" section in the top of the script "int choice;"

I usualy put 0 at the run_dialog, because most of the time t isn't really necessary to let the party record a certain thing. However, if you do want to be able to let the party recoder a certain thing, then you indeed hav to put 1 instead of the 0.

It doesn't show up because you forgot choice = rundialog(0). If you don't put run_dialog(0) after the dialog message, it doesn't appear. same goes for animations, mind you. Always end with run_animation(); or run_animation sound(sound_to_be_run);

So in your code you'll get:

beginstate 10;
reset_dialog();
add_dialog_str (0, "This is where the dead are remembered. The shrine is consisted of four small pools.", 0);
add_dialog_str (1, "Do you want to wash yourself in one of the pools?", 1);
add_dialog_choice (0, "Yes");
add_dialog_choice (1, "No");
choice = run_dialog(0);
You can also leave the choice = away, though.

You know, there is this one thing that I always wanted to see, and that is an adventure of some sort in the human body. Know I have started plaaning this concept for a BoA scenario which will someday be released. something else (which I also started planning for a BoA scenario), is that things start to go wrong for no obvious reason. At a certain point somebody discovers a second dimension. paralel to the Avernum world, but linked with portals. In that second dimension everything is ruined. Everything is filthy. People are ill and dying. before things will be settled in your own world, you should fix the problems in the second dimension. That is something that always intruiged me.

IT WORKS! I don't know what happened, maybe you were right, thuryl. I made a big change in the place the party ends up in. instead of a narrow tunnel leading into the trashpits, I made the same tunnel, but as if a part was blasted away becasue of the chamicals that spill into it from the laboratories you just came out. i also moved some special rectangles and unblocked certain places which were previously blocked. i also changed the location the party appears in. now it works. I thank you all.

By the way, the INIT_STATE of both towns are empty. there's only something in the START_STATE's. The town you leave is 48x48, the toen you enter 32x32.
