Hmmm, I had hoped for maybe more people willing to help. Oh well, I'll hear the other opinions during beta, only problem with that, is that puzzles might be less balanced than I would like too. Anyway, thanks to you two. Glad you like it.

As was pointed out, I think you are wrong in thinking the whole community didn't like Bahssikava and Exodus. It is my experience, that one hears the complaining portion of a community more often than the satisfied portion, with good reason, too.

I was hoping for some feedback actually, some opinions on the scenario, or some people being prepared to help. Anybody?

It would be a great pity of Kel would stop, but shall we maybe stop discussing it? He will decide for himself. If he says no, then so be it, but we won't like it.

This seems nice, but what exactly will it feature that Textwrangler doesn't have? That, too, is a free text editing program, specifically for HTML, but it works well with any kind of script.

EDIT: I was thinking, as something I would love to see, that it might be very handy to have some pre-defined script starts. Like that you can make a new file, and that you can choose what sort of script you want, and according to that the START, INIT etc states are automatically added.

Something else which may be usefull, along the lines of what kelandon commented and is nit implemented in Textwrangler to my discontent, is a checker that automatically checks for parentheses: if you type an unmatched right bracket somewhere, it will immediatly warn you.

Probably not, because nobody thinks Carrot Top is funny. He's just annoying. (I'm not saying you're annoying though. I didn't make the cast list.)

Meh, somebody likes him. Otherwise I wouldn't know why people go to his live shows in Vegas. I don't know him, so I can't say.

Never heard of "carrot top," so I did a search:

Yep, the hair fits, and nice of you to make me a comedian. Does that mean that my jokes are considered funny from time to time in this place?

Anyway, very, very nice Slarty. Laughed my head off.

It's quite amazing that most of the members here I actually picture just as the actors you chose, like Aran, Nicothodes and some others.

After six months into designing, I have finally decided to officially announce my second scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. You'll be able to find more about it on my website Just click the entry of 4 - 9 - 2007, and you should get to the appropriate place.

During the designing process, I will sometimes be alpha testing the puzzles. If you want to help me with that, I would really appreciate it. Please first read the information on my website, though, so you know what you are getting into. then, if you want to help, leave your OS and email adress behind, so i can contact you when I require help.

I'm excited about this scenario, and I hope you are too. Now it's back to work for me.

Unless you yourself will be doing the upgrade, no. The BoE editor will not be upgraded. If you still want to design, though, you can do it for BoA.

Wow.

People's way of thinking develops, you know. It took us all the time we had to, to come where we are now. You can start blaming two of the most famous and brilliant people, but this seems just a tad unreasonable to me. You can also blame the church for controlling people's minds in the way they did in the middle ages, but look at it this way: it caused people to think differently in the Renaissance, which helped u get where we are now.

Listen, you can't possibly blame people for acting wrongly in a period of time that was totally different from ours. Try to understand that before you discard brilliant people!

I don't really know both of them. I don't really know any philospher, to be honest, except for Empedocles and Demokritos, of whome I think Demokritos was a brilliant man. However, I general i prefer the Indian philosophers and alchemists. They managed to develop a lot before the Greeks came in (*cough* atom theorie *cough*). It's a pity they never are recognized for what they did, though.

By the way, what's the reason for this poll?

Graphics Discussion in Blades of Avernum

That's a very good idea, you know. I always just sat at my computer and hoped for the best. The result isn't exactly perfect *cough* I'll be sure to try this method once I need some graphics that nobody but me will be able to draw right (for multiple reasons).

That graphic looks fine, by the way, but I think that the attackings ones might be a little static, if you understand what I mean. Except for the arm, there is not much motion.

The Daeth garphics look nice, but I wondered if it wouldn't be weird to see the monster kneel and then instantly disappear. Other than that, good work.

I'm using Fracas as a madman, casting radiant shield asif I'm being chased by demons from hell, spraying acid asif I grow the stuff on trees, slowing him constanbtly, but to no evail. i tried it on torment, but the creature I summon are not affected by it, so I'll put it on easy for now (it was all the time on tough, to my great surprise). If I still don't batter him to pieces, I'll stop it, go to another scenario, and return when I'm level 60. I refuse to waist my time on it for too long.

outdoor terrain modification in Blades of Avernum Editor

The script I tested with doesn't use state 15 anymore, only the START and INIT states, without SDF (121,3). I'll try it with a fresh party, though, it might correct things. I certainly hope so. I'll also go over the numbers of terrain and so forth again, just to be sure.

Okay, I'll try that. I, too, thought it might be the flags, although I really doubt it. I will do that sometime tomorrow, as the party of last night, the beer I drank and the last night sleep, plus the 5 hours of orchstra repetition have basically killed me.

Anyway, thanks.

EDIT: Just couldn't leave it alone, could I. Once I get obsessed with such things like these, i keep going until it works, and now it does. I still don't quite understand what the problem was, though. I took out the flags, and checked to what the flags were set, which were set correctly. Then I put in the flag checks, and it still worked. Then I took out the flags' checks of print_num() and it still works.

Thanks for all the help guys, you made me a very happy man.

Woops, I didn't know that was necessary. I'll do it right away. Thanks!

EDIT: Hmmm, still doesn't seem to work right. I probably did something wrong:

datascript:

// *** ITEMS ***

// Slith spear and greatsword

begindefineitem 445;
import = 371;
it_special_class = 1;

begindefineitem 446;
import = 61;
it_special_class = 2;
townscript:

beginstate START_STATE;

if ((get_flag(13,5) == 0) && (item_of_class_on_spot(26,33,1) == 1)) {
set_flag(13,5,1);
}

if ((get_flag(13,5) == 4) && (item_of_class_on_spot(34,33,2) == 1)) {
set_flag(13,5,5);
}

break;
I put a print_num(num) call at the first if-call of the START_STATE, to see if it's triggered at all, and it's not. I think everything is right now, yet it doesn't work. What can be the problem now? Yes, I did put the right items in the town (445 and 446).

I'm trying all that is advised, but I just can't beat the guy. Thew problem starts when he casts "inner fire" and becomes a lot stronger. Sometimes he can cast two spells right after each other. I, of course, will be dead when he does that.

outdoor terrain modification in Blades of Avernum Editor
Master
Member # 5977

Very, very weird...

Okay, I tried out what was suggested in this thread, and nothing worked, so I decided to do some research. I entered the strings

a=x;
print_num(a);
at the INIT and START_STATE, a = 1 for INIT and a = 2 for START. I came to the following conclusion:

The START state is called every single turn, as it should, but no terrain is actually changed.

The INIT state is called when you are within reach of the new outdoor section, about 5 - 10 spaces away from it.

Now comes the strange part: the INIT state altered the terrain, but in a totally weird way. On every place it had to put terrain, it either heightened or lowered the terrain with about 10. This seemed somewhat random, though lowering happened a lot more. Also, the terrain modifications were in the wrong outdoor section, namely in the one the INIT state was triggered in. It then started giving a thousand times the error "terrain number out of reach," and when it had enough, BoA crashed. The report that was automatically made, said I have v1,1 of BoA, which seems strange to me. I downloaded BoA again, though, so I'll see what happens next.

I have a puzzle in which has to be hecked whether or not a certain item is on a certain spot. However, it fails to work correctly. The relevant bit of code is here:

beginstate START_STATE;

if (get_flag(13,5) == 0 && item_of_class_on_spot(26,33,1) == 1);
set_flag(13,5,1);

if (get_flag(13,5) == 4 && item_of_class_on_spot(34,33,2) == 1);
set_flag(13,5,5);

break;
The first if-call checks for a slith spear, the second one for a greatsword. Can enybody see what is wrong in this script that it might not work?

If somebod knows a better way to do the same, I would very appreciate it if he told me how to, as this call does actually not do exactly what I want it to do.
