I suspect that my revolutionary friends the "sockeye salmon" have corrupted yonder artist into replacing your well known weasel mascot with a more masculine substitute. I am not responsible, as I only provide the training. The moral director of the rapids immersion school is not under my control, and for security reasons I do not know their name. Edit - points to clarify - I use moral rather than morals on purpose. Tenses used are also delibrate. *this message sponsored by the ferret wheel, found in amusement parks nationwide* [ Wednesday, July 13, 2005 20:43: Message edited by: Jumpin' Salmon ] Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

Andrew's statement quote:is not inconsistent with Ash's statement quote:Dear Abby, I read the Wizard of Oz, and now I'm scared of the scarecrow in my neighbor's corn field. Will he really come alive? My mommy says books are make-believe, but the Narnia books have a talking lion. If two books have talking lions could it be true? Are there talking lions? The Grinch isn't real, is he? Is there really someone that will steal my Christmas? There are really old people in the book that the man in the church reads, but my granpa is much younger and he is dying. Why is that? Thanks for answering my questions, because all these books scare me and I think I would be better off never reading or hearing about anything else ever again. - Allison Allegory *this message mentions fictional characters, no real characters have been used in this message* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

t Spring - it is far more engaging to begin a unsolvable topic with the humor of an odd title that still gives an idea of the subject matter. I could have blamed a glitch, but there seemed to be nor harm, thus no foul. It was an odd thing, but it needed to be seen by Drakey in case it was symptomatic of a more serious problem. As to the newbie thing, well we each get to form our own opinions and read the words we choose. *this message sponsored by ubb - enriching lives one glitch at a time* -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

Define perfect. If you find yourself being satisfied with your day, then you are decently adapted to your environment. I am not adapted to large city living, so I live where I do. Others would freak out, and are better adapted to cities. This is not strictly a learned thing, as "quirks" like agoraphobia and claustraphobia can occur from birth. Human nature is something that can not be discovered by humans. We need to find a third party that is capable of translatable speech to study us and explain our nature. That already is the hope and dream of millions of ET believers, and billions of afterlife believers. So maybe the essence of human nature is the need/desire to have all this explained. *this message sponsored by philosophy talk - another reason to listen to public radio* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

I just got a catalog from a company called O.A.R.S. (www.oars.com) which as some nice trips. Expensive, but nice. Less than 1 week up to a trip to the Yangtze lasting 19 days. Mostly rafting stuff, which I highly recommend, but other stuff as well. If you like the remote, but worry about gear, this might be the trip. I'm already thinking this is good honeymoon material. *this message sponsored by a fanatical avoidance of work* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

I would enjoy the brief noteriety of being on the Forbes list. I would then note that I already had the billion, and had not been given it, so I would already have most of the junk already mentioned, and have paid off all that debt. So I would have a billion plus having all of that. Probably not the intent of the question, but living on the edge is usually the key to massive wealth accumulation. Assuming I stopped all income generating activities when I had the billion, I would buy Grand Coulee dam and demolish it. That way my salmon buddies could actually travel the full length of the mighty Columbia and reach Canada, fulfilling the dream of cheap prescription medicines for anadromous fishies. Poor in cash, rich in assets, and all the fishing I could stomach! *this message funded by this penny and that penny* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

I find the order in which UBB sorts the topics to be amusing. Psuedo-chronological. Thought you might be interested Drakey. Not bothering to include it here, as it is a screen print which was not resized to preserve the material. This began happening after I discovered and began using the "next" button for navigating between topics. And the race divide is exposed as the crippling effect it surely is. You will wait, alone and fearful of further insult ladden statements, for a white brother, rather than reach for the extended, and goo-laden, hand of the moderator of the hour. Shame. Shame. Unless you have a medical condition which requires you to avoid purple goo. I mean Alorael. Oh whatever. Go back and re-read the naked thuryl thread again. *this message is 99.9% value free* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

As I am a diligent reader of signatures, I have noted that Alorael is purple rather than white. Rather than insult him by questioning the veracity of the statement, I simply accept it. As such, my advice would be for Alex to call upon purple and white brothers for moderatorial assistance. *this message sponsored by smuckers - making purple goo for many years now* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

Given that I've not witnessed a "flame war," and am dubious about the idea of electing someone because they would lock topics, it seems the only real problem is new accounts being opened for the sole purpose of harassing members. It has been stated elsewhere that moderators can't stop new threads from being opened, they can only lock and modify the content. That said, it seems that being a moderator is not very attractive. They aren't leaders in the community that direct the flow of conversation, or work tirelessly to improve the environment. And I don't particularly see that it needs improving. Alorael and Drakey are here often enough, and saunders shows up occasionally, Khoth and *i as well. I may be naive, but I fail to see how anything but maturity and restraint can be called assets in this competition. I have respect for thuryl, but fail to see how a rational person could expect that adding a +10GMT timezone person would radically change things. We have Khoth, who I think is in England, being awake 10-24GMT. Any American being around from 0-5 and 15-24GMT. That leaves the gaping hole of 5-10GMT, which is too early for most Americans and too late for Europeans. I guess if the majority of questionable posting originated in SE Asia, the Philipines, and Australia, I could see the need for geographically specific moderators. But that is something we don't know as board members. I know of one instance where the questionable posting originated in France, but that was quickly countered. The recent rubber numbskull postings happened in the middle of the EST day, and it was only a miracle that the second instance wasn't attended to immediately. The point, or summary if this post is as long and boring as I suspect, is that this isn't really all that big of a deal. Really. Nothing will change if the list of moderators does indeed change. Sorry to be a kill-joy. Edit - If things do change as a result of a moderator switch, then I suspect it will not be for the better. This is already a nice place to hang out, without excessive force of personality, and I don't see it as able to improve. *this message sponsored the american society of nihilistic political commentators* [ Sunday, July 10, 2005 22:13: Message edited by: Jumpin' Salmon ] Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

Although the download page at Spiderweb doesn't mention it, and it isn't necessary for downloading the game, you do need 3rd party software to open and install BoAEditor.zip I would recommend checking download.com for their picks on unzipping software. I have two on my PC, PKzip and WinZip. Both are unregistered shareware, so I put up with an ad reminder, but they work perfectly well. Have fun designing, read through scripts in other designers scenarios, and register the game! It makes life much easier. *this message sponsored by gates - grinning at their extra software* [ Saturday, July 09, 2005 16:26: Message edited by: Jumpin' Salmon ] -------------------- WWtNSD? My sense is that Ben has been indoctrinated to such a degree that he is incapable of listening to opposing views. It is unfortunate, given that he is young, that he has such a strong opinion on this matter. It is one of the most refreshing aspects of youth to have an open mind, constantly seeking to absorb new and different information. *this message designed and built to have no impact* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

My recollection of that news story may be hazy, but I think the looting was started by Iraqi citizens that were seeking to augment their meager income by stealing this stuff, then selling it to the corrupt Western collectors that have no problems with owning and displaying stolen artifacts in the privacy of their own homes. And I would posit that the culture was destroyed back in the early 20th century when Western powers decided to modernise the Mid-East by assigning strict geographic boundaries and create countries where before there had been amorphous tribal territories. While it is all nice and good to think in straight lines, some of the tribes came out as big losers, and I fear that it the arbitrary decisions made by long-dead politicians that have created this mess, and the memories of those decisions fueled the hate in a few influential and charismatic men. *this message condemns all that meddle with the unknown to suffer the consequences* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

The British eventually gave up and left the 13 colonies. We seem to have done a decent enough job on our own since then. The point? leave your petty politicking out of a thread in which people are expressing concern over a specific terrorist attack. It doesn't belong here. *this message expresses distaste for faulty and misplaced logic* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |
