Point: You had a screenshot where 1 is used as a fullscreen background-since it is not the shape of the average monitor, maybe it could either be trimmed, or displayed in only the centre of the screen, or something? Other than that...well, I've made my opinions known on the women-wearing-next-to-nothing pictures. I really just don't see what they contribute to the game, and can guarantee that if my parents found me playing a game where one of those pictures pops up regularly, it wouldn't remain installed long...I don't know how many people this is true for, but certainly a not insignificant minority. I appreciate the fact that you may not be able to easily get hold of others, though... -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Polaris Boards: The System is Up. Perennially. FB, the CoC is not the be-all and end-all of posting norms. You don't actually have to quote it every time there's a slight infringement. That said, I agree with the principle: it would be nice if such petty arguments were kept off the boards. Even nicer if they didn't happen at all, but you can't have everything. And the sounds: Either there's a problem with your computer's sound hardware/software, (unlikely unless you've experienced similar problems in other games, in which case very likely) or there's something wrong with the sound files. Backing up savegames and reinstalling never hurt anyone... -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Posts: 2314 | Registered: Tuesday, January 15 2002 08:00 |

FB, the tunnel is over 3 miles long. I doubt the rebels had traversed more than a third of it before they met the ratten, and doubtless the more interested of them will come up with more encounters along the way...you're going to have to find something else to do, or just not post as many ICs, for the moment. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! YAY4OOC: Nazgul is right, MSW. I'm just doing what you are, prolonging the tower scene while the heroes fight their way through the tunnel. I don't think that one battle between two mages is going to last as long as a three mile trek without getting repetitive (especially as most mages aren't really strong enough to take more than a couple of their own spells...so it would be unlikely to last that long anyway...) Conversely, a chase round the tower with Alcove chasing Arcadia is more than likely to last a significant period of time, long enough for the heroes to get there. I won't IC just for the moment, as the ratio of ICs in the tower to ICs in the tunnel is practically the opposite of that of characters in those places...(probably the least intelligible sentence I've ever uttered, but I think you get my drift...) EDIT: No, I don't mind Alcove finding out that Delgar is helping Arcadia. I would prefer it if she didn't reveal it to Balthazar in the same post, but since Delgar isn't actually in the tower, I don't have any major objection. -E- [ Tuesday, September 23, 2003 10:47: Message edited by: Omlette ] -------------------- Let them eat cake! I think that scores of under 40 or so in the spam test mean little. Above 40-odd, it means that you are a spammer, but the distinction between someone with 5 and someone with 10 is trivial. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Polaris Boards: The System is Up. MSW: Do you really think Arcadia would admit that Delgar was shamming? After all, she's trying to buy the rebels some time, even at the expense of her own life. The last thing she's going to do is let Alcove know that the rebels are coming-she'd be more likely to make her think there's no-one else coming, and that she's trying to take on Alcove all by herself. IC: Suddenly, Arcadia turns invisible. Alcove looks around, confused for a second, then jumps to one side as a fireball flies at her, barely escaping the murderous heat. Hmmm. I didn't know Arcadia was capable of this kind of magic-she must have learnt more since I last faced here. I'll have to be careful... Meanwhile, Arcadia hears a voice in her head...Delgar is interfering again. 'Arcadia? I've made you invisible-should've done that earlier, but late is better than never. Summon something, will you? I can make that invisible too, and Alcove will have to flee. She'll know you're here, but that we'll have to live with.' Arcadia casts a quick summoning spell, and a lizard appears out of thin air...and disappears again. Alcove, meanwhile, has prepared a Death Arrows spell. The lethal bolts fly in a wide arc, and one of them hits Arcadia, causing her to cry out in pain. Alcove, realising where Arcadia must be, readies another spell, but just then she feels herself being knocked down by some invisible presence. From the floor, she throws her readied ice bolt, and hears a reptilian scream of pain. Then, a giant, invisible claw tears into her side. In agony, she prepares a kill spell, and launches it straight up. Recovering, she sees the giant reptile's body on the floor by her...and an ice bolt headed her way. Left without the strength to defend herself or retaliate, she reaches for her safety amulet, and squeezes it. Time seems to freeze for a second...and then she is safe in her hidden room. I'll have to be more careful next time...summon some imps to keep with me, they'll protect me from Arcadia's invisible creatures. But how on earth did she become so good at making creatures invisible? Pondering this mystery, Alcove sets off to look for Arcadia once more. Meanwhile, Arcadia, sheltered under a shield of invisibility, is looking for other ways to delay Balthazar's army. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Polaris Boards: The System is Up. Meanwhile, In Balthazar's throne room: Balthazar is sitting idly in his throne, the jade mage standing in front of him, in the middle of the throne room, with the contented, half-witted smile of a person under the influence of a charm spell. Alcove is in one corner, frowning to herself. Suddenly, there is a flash of light, and a strange blue portal appears in the middle of Balthazar's throne room. A richly dressed figure with a long, ostentatious cape, appears and steps out of the portal, which promptly disappears. (OOC: remember, it's not munchkinning, it's just one of Delgar's overly elaborate illusions...) Balthazar looks up. 'Delgar? Why are you here?' Bowing low, Delgar replies: 'You summoned me, your majesty. I believe you wanted me to lend my expertise to...ah...a fact-finding enterprise?' 'Fact-finding? Oh, the rebels? Yes, I did. Now look here, Delgar, the rebels are building a tunnel to part of my tower. I need to know...well...how many of them there are, how long the tunnel is...that sort of thing.' 'And who built it,' chimes in Alcove. 'Yes, that is certainly something we want to know. Can't have mages that powerful running around, oh no.' 'What you ask is not easy, my lord. However, it can be done. Observe.' An illusionary image of Balthazar's tower appears in mid-air. The walls disappear, and everything happening inside is visible...with the notable exception of Fluffy, Mancire and Arcadia. Fortunately, neither Balthazar nor Alcove are interested in the details of a place they are sure is fairly safe, at least for the moment. The image zooms in on the basement of the tower, until the throne room walls have disappeared, and Balthazar's ornamental hangings appear to be hanging from rusty nails in the cellar. One wall of the cellar disappears, revealing a tunnel beyond. There is an almost alarming sensation of movement as the tunnel walls begin to rush past. The tunnel widens out into caves, and then narrows. Occasional sight is had of some creatures peering out of dens, and then nothing, until suddenly the throne room emerges from the mouth of the tunnel, to an almost deserted rebel encampment, with only a few soldiers hanging around to guard it. Balthazar takes a look around, and then laughs. 'These fools think they can harm me? Alcove, summon...oh...five of your imps to guard the cellar. That should be more than enough to deal with these rebels.' 'But where is the mage, my lord?' 'Yes, indeed. Delgar, where is...Delgar, be so good as to end this illusion, will you?' 'At once, my lord.' 'Now, where was I? Oh, yes. Delgar, the mage?' 'I cannot tell, my lord. Perhaps I should scry back in time, to when the tunnel was made?' 'Yes! Do so!' 'My lord, I cannot just do so straight away...it takes time to prepare such a scrying, and more time to carry it out...who knows how long this tunnel has been here? Maybe it was dug years ago, maybe the mage who dug it has long since perished, who knows? I will go, and see, and when I know, I will tell you.' 'Thank you, Delgar. You may leave.' 'Ah...my lord, there is the small matter of payment...' 'After you find out who dug the tunnel, Delgar. Then you will be paid.' 'My lord...' 'Then, Delgar. Now go!' And, with a giant blue flash, Delgar goes. OOC: To the slightly confused, the reason they didn't see the party when the illusion travelled along the tunnel was because Delgar hid them. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Meanwhile, in his cave, Delgar has finally gotten his illusion machines working (translation: I've been unable to post all weekend, sorry I'm so behind...) Scanning for his own name, he finds that Alcove has sent a minion to demand he help Balthazar by tracking the rebel army. The minion is nearly at his house... Focussing on his illusory body left inside his house, he hears a knock. Going to answer, he opens the front door and goes out. 'Yes?' 'I am Morten, Balthazar's Lieutenant. Balthazar requires your services to spy on some rebels who are tunneling under the mountains to attack his tower. He is prepared to pay you up to twenty thousand gold pieces if your help leads to their destruction.' As if he'll ever pay that much...but this is an excellent oppurtunity to help the rebels. 'For that money, I'll gladly come. Do you have any transport to offer me?' 'No-I assumed that you could...um...teleport? You are a mage, aren't you?' 'Yes, I can indeed teleport, although I don't like to. Very well. Go and tell your master that I'll come...although by the time you get back, I'll be there already...' (OOC: Delgar can't teleport, but he can project his illusory image pretty much anywhere once he's got the right esoteria set up.) With that, Delgar's image disappears from view. Meanwhile, in the tower, Fluffy is carrying Arcadia on his back, looking for Alcove. Suddenly, a voice comes from behind him... 'Not so fast, little wolf. I'm sure you'll be wanting to leave that mage there...' Turning around, Fluffy sees a mysterious robed figure (not Delgar, a completely illusory one this time). Flanking him are two horrific monsters, giant green ratlike things with human faces and arms holding gigantic weapons. Fluffy quails, then recovers his fortitude. Dropping Arcadia's body, he pulls himself up. 'You rebels are no match for me! I'll get you!' With this, he launches himself at the robed figure, who disappears, leaving Fluffy to charge through empty space. Mocking laughter follows him. Fluffy turns, snarling, to see the two ratmen are standing to his side. They begin to circle round him. He charges at one of them, but it turns and flees. Sensing victory is at hand, he pursues, only to run headlong into the wall, knocking himself out. Meanwhile, the noise has woken Arcadia, who is looking, confused, at the ratmen. Suddenly, they disappear completely, along with the illusory passage one of them fled down. 'No thank-yous, Arcadia?' Delgar has appeared, and is looking very pleased with himself. 'Delgar? What are you doing here? I thought you'd defected?' 'A mage without the ability to kill is hardly in a position to challenge one with it, at least not directly. I had to appear to go along with Balthazar, I couldn't have defended myself otherwise. But I don't want to die with him ruling Siris. That's why I just rescued you, and that's why I'm pretending to help Balthazar by giving him false information about the rebels' activities. Speaking of which...' And he disappears, leaving a very confused Arcadia behind him. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Polaris Boards: The System is Up. Perennially. Investigating the tunnel, Delgar was again stunned by the forces that had gathered themselves together in opposition to Balthazar. Even he could see that a better chance to overthrow the archmage would not come in his lifetime, if ever. Hurrying down to his basement, he lifted all his scrying equipment from its normal place to the cart he'd readied for just such an emergency. Soon esoteric equipment was stacked high, all in preprepared places, and he was ready to go. Reining in his two horses, he departed his house, leaving behind an illusory Delgar of high enough quality to fool even Balthazar, provided it wasn't required to perform before the real Delgar reached his safe house-right now all his attention was on cloaking his cart and horses in invisibility. Leaving the city, he headed north, then, some two hundred meters along the road, turned left...straight into a tree...and through. Hmmm...The illusion generators certainly haven't decayed with time. I hope the controls haven't either... As the cart goes further through the woods-occasionally literally, although its invisibility prevents anyone realising this-it descends from a clearing into a cave. A quite natural cave, with a quite unnatural illusory wall blocking it up. Behind the wall, Delgar quickly places his scrying and illusion-generating items in the prepared places, then has a quick meal. I have work to do. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Well, a problem with RPG Maker, especially like the one you describe, is likely caused by a mistake in coding-somewhere you told something to go left and the command wasn't defined the way you wanted, so it's now mucking everything up. If I were you, I'd learn to use BoE. It'd be a much better investment of time than RMK. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Posts: 2314 | Registered: Tuesday, January 15 2002 08:00 |

Delgar looked in awed respect at the fighting abilities of the group. (OOC note: Delgar is scrying, so no-one engage in conversation with him, please...and VWM, even your character can't detect this. Honest.) Of the twenty-four elite assassains that had leapt from cover, only four remained, and they were looking far from certain about their changes of success. Even as they stopped, uncertain, Namothil cut another down, and they turned to flee. Delgar shook his head as the panicking men fled straight down the open path, easy targets for missiles in the back. Now for this tunnel...or maybe it was time to give up working for Balthazar? -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Polaris Boards: The System is Up. Perennially. Not at all. Radiant had some screenshots from the game already online, one of which was also one of the ones I was complaining about. He wasn't being Machiavellian, particularly as I hadn't bothered to mention exactly which ones I objected to. The reason I complained about it was the sidepanel one I mentioned; I don't have a place to upload to or anything, so I pointed out that other one. -E- [ Thursday, September 18, 2003 12:29: Message edited by: Omlette ] -------------------- Let them eat cake! I haven't had time to post in an RP recently, and now that I want to, it's so far advanced that there's little I can do for the plot. However, little is not nothing... My character is called Delgar. He's an expert illusionist-scryer, but can barely manage the weakest of energy bolts. However, his illusions are so powerful that he rarely needs to fight, instead escaping away and leaving his opponents baffled. Avoiding the usual mage-tower cliché that tends to make mages targets for wandering barbarians and adventurers, he instead had established a very good position as a universal spy, offering his scrying abilities completely above board to those who were rich enough to pay his amazingly high rates. Just before Balthazar took over, he was one of the richest citizens of the island, if not the richest, and living very comfortably. He almost lost his life in the takeover, but some fast talking combined with half of Delgar's worldly wealth in ready money convinced Balthazar that Delgar was not a significant threat. Delgar still makes a little money from scrying, but hardly as much as he did previously, especially as Balthazar, his main employer, is exceedingly lax about payment. He knows all about the rebels, of course, or at least most of the pertinent details, but he has not contacted them directly, mainly since he feels their strength is vastly insuffecient to take down Balthazar, and thus it is not worth the risk of helping them. Now, however, an interesting message has come from one of Balthazar's functionaries: someone appears to be building a tunnel to one of Balthazar's tunnels. Delgar's instructions are to find out as much as he can. However, in the past he has withheld information, making Balthazar underestimate rebel numbers and dismiss them as insignificant. He may well do so again... -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Polaris Boards: The System is Up. Perennially. Posts: 2314 | Registered: Tuesday, January 15 2002 08:00 |

It seems I'm massively outnumbered, so I'll concede the point. I had some kind of logical argument as to why they added nothing to the game, but it seems that for the majority of people, they do, so I'll just leave it. I still object to the picture on the sidepanel for building cities in the map-editor, because the woman in that one is actually naked. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake!
