Although I'll probably muck up badly, here's my character attempt too: Name: Dingbat the mysteriously intelligent Lizard Type: Reptile. Level: 5 (50) Melee: Skill=10 (40) Attacks: 20d1, 20d1, 20d1 (120) Speed: 9 (190) Poison rank 8 (32) Immunity: m-cP (24) Health=104 (104) Dingbat is a lizard who was cast out of his home because he was too intelligent, and indisted on trying to learn the human language. Having mastered this, he is trying to integrate into human society, so far unsuccessfully... Is that any good? -E- [ Saturday, July 19, 2003 13:04: Message edited by: Omlette ] -------------------- Let them eat cake! Polaris Boards: The System is Up. Perennially. ef: He has a point. I only marked major forests, there're plenty of not so major ones... IC: After a relatively brief journey, they arrived in Sefil. On the way, Delgar and Alex had explained the situation to the others, and Delgar had had a brief look at Alron's orb, to no effect. They landed outside Sefil, and Alex set about finding somewhere for his eagle to stay. 'Right. Let's go and find the mayor,' suggeted Dralnok. 'Oh dear. You haven't ever been to Sefil, have you?' asked Delgar. 'Well, no, but I don't see why that should stop me getting in touch with the mayor...' 'No, the fact that there isn't a mayor will stop you doing that. We really need to warn the Mercenary Council, but they only convene once a month...' -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! 'No, of course not. I meant to fall off the roof. Now leave me alone!' 'Uh...fine, then.' The rest of the party gathers around the door, leaving James to get up slowly. They peer in. 'Well, there's no-one here...' At that point, a face appears around a corner, spies the adventurers, and vanishes again. A second later, it reappears. 'Help me! Please, help me! The fruit monger has sent me a poisoned mushroom! I'll die unless you give me some fungicide! Help!' -E- [ Thursday, July 17, 2003 11:15: Message edited by: Omlette ] -------------------- Let them eat cake! Polaris Boards: The System is Up. Perennially. 'If we're to warn Sefil, we'll have to get there fast. Alex, you mentioned that you were going to fly into the cultists' stronghold. How were you planning to do that?' 'I have a giant eagle. Come with me, I'll show you where I keep him.' They leave the town, and find a giant eagle, sitting in a cave in the nearby mountainside. Unfortunately, there isn't room on it for all three of them, so Arlon created a seat from water in the nearby river. They mounted, and the eagle flew towards Sefil. As they flew, Delgar turned to Arlon. 'What's that you were saying about an orb? This isn't one of those Undine orbs that kill any non-Undines that touch them, is it?' 'What? How did you know what I was?' 'Well, I've never met a mage that could replicate Undine control over water. You don't look like an Undine, but you certainly act like one...' -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Polaris Boards: The System is Up. Perennially. Dolney, we're in Delgar's house. Strange people don't just appear and start walking up to you...not in my house, anyway... Delgar waved his hands and the scene began to replay. The cultists were indeed plotting to attack Sefil. But that's a massive city!, thought Delgar. They must be pretty sure of themselves... Out loud, he turned to Alex. 'We must warn the people of Sefil. Then you can attack the fortress or whatever you want to do. Come with me...' As they left Delgar's house, they noticed some strange people walking their way... OOC: There, I tried to preserve your origional idea. The alternative was to remove it by saying they were house servants or something, which I don't think you'd have liked. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Polaris Boards: The System is Up. James the Flying Nephil, hovering above the party, put his paws over his eyes, then removed them...no the madman was still at it. Peering in the window, he saw Nicky running downstairs, then running becak up again. He quickly flew up out of reach and landed on the roof of the house. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! So, Logalot, Tina and Maestro are in Caston, and Alex and I are in Kadib, across the river from Forek, where Dralnok and a crazy old guy are situated. Looks like two parties are forming...all to the better. Alex and Delgar reach Degar's house, Delgar much gratified by the impressed expression on Alex's face. 'Come right in, it's just through here. Would you like a drink while I prepare the scrying?' 'Uh, of course...with pleasure.' Delgar pulls a chain, and a servant comes running with a drink. As he bustles about collecting together apparatus, he continues to chat: 'You see, most wizards have towers out in the middle of nowhere, heavens alone know why. The trouble is, everyone assumes they're evil, and they get picked on loads by wandering adventurers. I, however, chose to live in a town house, and forgo the pleasure of being waited on by invisible servants who can understand my thoughts. I've never regretted it. But the apparatus is ready now, don't say anything while I start it up.' He began to cast his spell. The apparatus he'd assembled looked like nothing on earth. In the front, a large, blank, white screen. Behind the screen, many different articles joined together to create a twisted contortion of shapes. The spell finished, and the screen began to glow. 'Now we begin the search. Where was your village, we can start from there.' 'I'm afraid I don't know, exactly.' 'Well, I can take the knowledge from your mind. Come and sit here...yes...now, wear this...alright. Yes, I see. Very good, you may take it off. Now, if we follow the trail of their army...yes...ah, here is their headquarters. Now, if I change the time to the present...come and watch.' Alex watches, intently, as the cultists patrol a massive fortress. Delgar moves his hands, and the view flies through the gate, and into the centre of the fortress, then begins to explore. After a while, they find what appears to be a meeting room, currently empty. With more hand-waving, Delgar sets the display racing back in time until when the room was created, then starts it going. Alright. If you watch, this display will just show the meetings that have taken place. I'll leave it running and come back for you once it's finished. Don't worry, I'll know when.' -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Polaris Boards: The System is Up. Perennially. Posts: 2314 | Registered: Tuesday, January 15 2002 08:00 |

I thought this thing probably needed a little structuring, so here it is: I've made a world map, which I've uploaded here. The quality is rather poor, but it'll do. If anyone can't read any of the place-names, just ask, and I'll e-mail you a better quality copy. For some reason, the uploader shrunk it slightly... Mondri (North-east) is the capital city of the Mondri Empire, which is (loosely) bordered by the desert, the Keal river, and the sea. It also maintains nominal control over Talek and Firset. The Ostet Empire is based in Caston, and rules the eastern part of the large continent. Sefil is essentially an anarchy, in that it has no government as such. It's people call themselves the Free Men of Sefil. Forek and Kadib are also inhabited by Free Men. The bottom left continent, Halidor, is all ruled by the King of Halidor, who resides in Halden. All the people so far have been humans, although there are non-humans in this world too...anyone who wants to drag in nonhumans can, they just don't rule anywhere, except on Mafor, the south-east continent, which is occupied by a mysterious race known to humanity as the Maforans. No-one knows what they are known to themselves as, since they have very few dealings with humanity. By the way, there are plenty more towns/cities than I've shown, these are just the main ones. Feel free to make some up... I hope that's given some structure to the plot. By the way, we're starting in Kadib. Just because I say so. (Someone has to decide these things...) -E- [ Wednesday, July 16, 2003 12:50: Message edited by: Omlette ] -------------------- Let them eat cake! Polaris Boards: The System is Up. Perennially. Well, I'll join...and for those who love to complain about everything, an inn a good place to start an RP. Delgar walks into the inn, looking about with mild distaste and a slight sigh of regret. Walking up to the bar, he sits down, ordering some quality wine ('quality wine, not like the stuff the fellow down the road serves...') and began to listen. Fairly soon, he heard someone calling himself Alex asking lots of questions about a cult called the Red Eye cult. He'd heard of it-one of the many quasi-religious power groups that was continually springing up. It appeared to have its own private army and some kind of limited magical power, but nothing so that anyone in power was interested. However, this Alex appeared to have gold, and gold was what Delgar needed. 'Excuse me, I'm afraid I overheard your conversation and I couldn't help hearing you mentioning the Red Eye cult, is that correct?' 'Yes, I want to find out where they are. They destroyed my home village and killed my family, and I'm after revenge.' 'Very well. If you'll come with me to my laboratory, we'll see what we can find out. If you're prepared to spend a little money, that is...' 'Money? I don't have that much, but I'd willingly spend it to get revenge on those murderers. (OOC: Dolney, you'll need to decide exactly how much you do have...) But what was that about a labo..a whatever you said?' 'Ah. I am a mage, quite a skilled one, although I say it myself. I specialise in scrying and illusions, and have built myself a plethora of scrying equipment with which I hope I can find out whatever you want to know. How difficult it is to find this out will decide how much you need to pay me.' 'Good. Let's go, then, it's getting late in the day.' They head off. While they're approaching Delagar's house/laboratory, I'll explain a little about him: He's not a combat mage. While he can produce some feeble magic bolts, they hardly have any effect, and a fireball would be beyond his powers. What he is, however, is a scryer and an illusionist. His scrying ability is what has him (usually) quite wealthy, wealthy enough to maintain a large, well-apportioned house in the richest part of what is a relatively large town-people are willing to pay a great deal to find out what their business rivals are doing, not to mention law enforcement officials who want to see what criminals are planning. His ablilties as an illusionist are what keep him alive in potentially dangerous situations, either multiplying himself or becoming invisible when threatened. He is a relatively accomplished fencer, although he prefers to trust in illusion than his sword. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Polaris Boards: The System is Up. Perennially. The trouble with the UK conflict getting the attention it deserves is that there never has been an all-out conflict, just the two factions committing acts of terrorism against civilians (and each other, but mainly civilians.) -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Um, stranger, just a few points. quote:Yes, please do. Now. quote:That makes no sense. Everything we do is something we can do, so all that says is that everyone is free, in any circumstance. Even if you say freedom is doing everything you can, which I think you may have meant to, that's equally absurd, because no-one will ever fulfill 100% of their potential, unless their potential is massively limited-life's too short. quote:White people of that time certainly had art and music of their own. Sure, it was of a different type, but what does that signify? Just because my tastes in music are different to yours, in no way does one of us become superior to the other. quote:I'd just like to quibble, here, that freedom cannot exist on its own. Freedom is a state that things can be in. Ditto life, which is something which can be had, but not something that can be independantly of anything else. quote:So freedom is doing what we choose to do? Freedom is being enslaved by our desires? This is the bit I really object to, since it seems to me that as long as we tell everyone that it's alright, as long as you choose what you do, you're free, we can never be free. If you choose to enslave yourself to something, you aren't still free. Freely discarding freedom is still discarding freedom. I would prefer to describe freedom as doing what you believe to be right. What are you enslaved to then? When something causes you to do something you know to be wrong, why is that? It's because you've been trapped, and made to do wrong. So freedom is doing what is right. I think that ought to clarify things for Sir David as well. At least, it ought to clarify why I said what I said. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Polaris Boards: The System is Up. JF, just a little education for you on the subject of Northern Ireland: The Unionists are Irish people who want to stay a part of the UK. The IRA are Irish people who want Ireland for the Irish. The problem is that they all live mixed up, so they can't be re-divided. And whenever one side proposes talks, the other side refuses to turn up. There is no mutually agreeable settlement to come to, and it's all the English representatives there (mainly military) can do to keep the terrorists from turning it into an all-out war. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake!
