The post I gave just now basically outlines instability in the Hunters- if you want, you can have someone more competent (ie, the two officers talking with Tygra) make moves to take over and instate a less-evil government.

Krizsan. All of the Hunters' officers were assembled in a meeting area in the Capitol Building. There was a nervous twitching throughout the room, as if all of the officers were burdened with guilt. Some were whispering amongst themselves, but none louder than a nun's church fart.

Tygra was sitting in a back room. "Tell me, you two... What do you think has happened?" Lyonard shook his head. "Sir, I said that the water must have been tampered with somehow. Not to demean you, but it appears as if your mental abilities have been rendered obsolete." Tygra spat. "Damnit! But how? And why?"

McCallister raised his hand. "Sir, it might just be the case that whoever raided us wanted more than the book or even to take over the city." Tygra punched a wall. "So what? Why bother with drawing my troops back to the capitol?"

Lyonard crouched down to the currently-sitting Tygra's height. "Sir," he began, "the water has been giving most of our army doubts as to the legitimacy of our organization--"
"MY organization."
"Yes, sir. Your organization. At any rate, the raiders somehow managed to get agents to place their toxins into the wells across town. By summoning the army here, the raiders have guaranteed that almost every soldier and most every officer has had the draught."

Tygra thought this over. "So what you're telling me is, I can no longer trust any of my officers?" Lyonard sighed. "You may think so, but that doesn't have to be the case. Consider- despite the fact that confidence in you is not exactly spiking and the people are supporting you mostly out of fear, if the people did decide to rebel, think of whom might take punishment first."
"...the officers?"
"Yes. The officers. It is fortunate that the defenders managed to tear down many structures on the coastal end of the city. If we hadn't sustained any losses, the people wouldn't have any motivation to support you."
Tygra punched the wall again, but harder this time. He would have to make a plan that would keep his empire afloat.

----

Barbariccia.

"How dare you?"

Rubicante was livid. Cagnazzo had already ducked out of the way of Rubicante's drinking goblet. Rubicante sat back down in his seat.

"Sir... Master Rubicante?"

Rubicante pounded the desk. "What?"

"Well. The Hunters not only armed their civilians, but were using buildings as sniper roosts and shields for their armies. Besides, there weren't any reported civilian deaths."
Rubicante spat. "Fine. Okay. But now that madman has smoking ruins to put his soapbox ontop of. At least the herbs were administered properly. Have the Looters been complaining about their loss of troops?"
Cagnazzo chuckled. "Sir, no offense, but with their leader on one of our ships, if he does object, there is a watery grave with an epiphet of 'gurgle' waiting for him."
"Fine. Not that I care about an organization like that anyway. Has Tygra contacted any other armed organizations yet?"
"Well, as you know, he's allied with the so-called 'Dominion'... But they don't seem to be doing anything about the situation. Perhaps they sense the Hunters' weakness and don't want to get involved. But... Sir."

"What?"

"Don't we have bigger things to be worrying about than some measly brigands?"
"Scar."
"Yes."
"Well, let's say we're getting antsy about it. What good can we do?"
"Point."
"Anyway, the Hunters shouldn't require much in the way of action to dismantle. Now, I was thinking of another foe whom we can now place in our sights."
"Sir?"
"The undead oligarchy on Aizo."
"Ah, right. Those undead."
"The Council had always been bribed to pressure us away from that end of the planet... But with the Council defeated..."
"But Rubicante, there's a problem with that."
"Eh?"
"Those waters belong to pirates allied with that group."
"...the Abyss Knights."
"Yes, unfortunately."
"Well. We'll have to find a way to start negotiations, now won't we?"

Okay. To recap:

1. Wanting to end the Hunters is okay (although I'd still argue that it's not necessary). But you should slow it down.

2. You still don't know who the Looters even ARE, nevermind where you might go looking for them. (And you might suspect Guild involvement, but there are no real signs pointing to it either.)

I want you to think of a better ending for the Hunters if you want to kill them off. (Not that you have to, but it'd probably be for the best.)

Anyway.

From here on out, I'm going to pretend that the undead business failed at Ephesos' post and was left at that. Tygra's rallying the people is acceptible also, but my next posts (and, I hope, everyone else's) will follow from that point, no further.

As for the Thieves' Guild-
1. They'd have even less military power than the Guild.
2. The odds of their organizing is incredibly slim. Whereas adventuring does not necessarily require altruism, thieving almost by definition mandates self-centeredness.
3. The Empire barely condoned adventurers. If you think they wouldn't invest significant energy in keeping a Thieves' Guild as small as possible, you're wrong.

Cannons? Grenades? Gunmen? Exploding oil?

Can you please tone this down? If you'll notice, everyone else is working on a much lower tech level, and they will not increase it to match you. Which means you should lower yours.
1. Cannons exist. On the one hand, you're way too late-- by, say, a good 3 pages. On the other hand, I don't have any real wizards, I don't have a land army, I cannot hold terrain... Plus, the Hunters were a coastal faction without a navy. They'd end up taking the same losses no matter what they tried to do- it'd have just been slower.
2. Grenades are really, really, really old. (The term was first used in 1688, but the actual devices existed well before then.) Plus, they're not even mine. The Hunters are the ones using them. Read the post.
3. "Gunmen" is another way of naming people who man "guns"- ie, cannons.
4. The exploding oil wasn't even mine-- it was Goldenkings, and he ordered all of the oil in Krizsan dumped into the ocean. All I did was shoot a flaming arrow at it while it was still in the barrel.

Just as an aside: The Hunters don't actually know who attacked them. The Looters haven't exposed themselves to any faction other than the Guild (and maybe the Anama), and the Guild has taken pains not to explicitly reveal themselves either. (Although as stated earlier, he can heavily suspect Guild involvement... But heck- what can he do about it?)

Anyway, there's an important side-effect of the Battle of Krizsan... But more on that later.

"Fire Emblem was never officially released in English until 2004, and then only one game, I think, whereas most of the Dragon Quests have been out in English."

Am I the only person here who, when finished with Rekka no Ken, beat Seima no Kouseki before it was translated?
Remember, most people here are massively shameless pirates.

As for me- No for most of the oldies. I've tried most of 'em, but it's just too friggin' difficult to stand 'em. I tried Ultima IV once for, say, four to six hours. I had to quit: It's missing way too many of the "technological" advances that simply allow for better storytelling, period. I cannot stand films before '26 (ie, films without sound synchronization), for instance. I simply cannot bring myself to enjoy such things.

(And if someone wants to get into a discussion of "hot" or "cold" media, this would be the time.)

"TM, I now realize my abject stupidity in the barrel move. It was an act of desperation. GoldenKing's not going to be too pleased when he gets back."

Well, to be perfectly honest, it's only expected that the battle be something of a wash. I've got a navy, he doesn't. On the other hand, his armies aren't that damaged. Most of the losses were in houses and other such buildings-- in terms of manpower, Tygra doesn't actually have it that bad.

Now, as for the book... I'm hoping to make that into an interesting fight. We'll see.

(OOC: I'm not sure how you could "hide men" with the entire harbor district basically crushed to a hut, but I'll assume that the pirates simply didn't get to you yet.)

----

Outside of Bargha. "Crap- Why the hell weren't you incompetents aiming there like I ordered you to? Crap! Hell! Damnation!" Guido was pissed off. His direct orders were carried out by three yr. olds. His gunmen suddenly stopped firing cannons.

"What are you doing? Fire!" A pirate turned to him, flabbergasted. "Those are our allies! We'd kill them!" Guido spat. "We aren't here to save their hides. Rubicante's men will get out safely enough anyway; they're not that stupid. Try to avoid hitting the Looters, but fire!"

----

Sergeant McCallister was leading his troops into what essentially amounted to a stalemate. On the other hand, such a stalemate guaranteed a delay in time that would allow reinforcements to pin down the enemies and kill them.

Boom! McCallister turned wide-eyed towards his left just in time to see a large cannon volley tear through the battle. His men were devestated, sure, but what shocked him the most was the number of enemy fighters who were taken out in the barrage. "Goddamnit! Are these pirates complete idiots? What the hell are they thinking?" The fighters were scared, but both parties continued the attack. "At least," McCallister thought to himself, "they might not do that again after seeing how incredibly stupid it was."

Boom! McCallister was horrified at this point. Thinking to himself, he said, "It was Tygra's goal to kill these invaders. But at this rate, there won't be anyone to keep defending the eastern cities! This is madness- sure, we'll kill the enemy, but at this rate, the pirates' ground forces will be enough to--"

Boom! Another round tore a huge hole into his ranks. The Looters had lost a profound number of men, but McCallister had lost more. "Retreat! Get out! These pirates are suicidal!" His men immediately responded. Those not involved in the front lines broke formation and ran with the devil at their feet, and those involved with the Looters were either gutted in the interrum or managed to push their opponents back far enough to retreat. The Looters (and their Guild assistants, a few of whom died in the melee) took off and fled.

The Looters made it to the wholly ruined areas of town. If the Hunters planned on stopping their retreat, they would have to think of a way that wouldn't get their own armies wiped out: McCallister learned that these raiders weren't particularly concerned with the well-being of their own troops.

----

"Sir, the battle is over. The Hunters' forces have ran." Guido smiled. "Fine. Is there--"

"Sir! Some civilians are gathering towards the far end of the city. They appear to be carrying many large barrels." Guido reached for his telescope and went to the top deck. (He was at this point out of any sniper's range, nevermind that most of the snipers in the city had been essentially exterminated.) "Is that...? Yes! That's oil! And they're going to dump it into the ocean. How amateurish."

Guido saw a dead longbowman lying on the deck. "How opportune..." Taking one of the arrows, he used his bandana and tied it around the arrow firmly. Then, he went into the lower decks and found a bucket of oil and dunked the arrow into it. Running back to the deck as quickly as he could manage, he brushed the arrow by a torch in the ship's lower deck. He took aim at the barrels and fired a shot.

----

"Come on, you monkeys! Tygra wants all of their contents poured into the ocean. Those pirates will fry!" One of the dock workers pointed up. "Sir, look up! It looks like a small flair."
"That's no flare. . . Damn! Let's get out of here!"

The dock workers and merchants began running. Then, the arrow struck one of the barrels.

WHA-SWOOOOOM-KA-POW!

The explosion of the barrels of the oil could be heard throughout the city. The merchants themselves were writhing like fish out of water as the incineration quickly melted the flesh off of their bones. The nearby buildings that hadn't yet been demolished by cannonfire were rent asunder. Fortunately, the nearby city walls and houses outside of the explosion's epicenter remained intact. (Krizsan had switched to stone walls a long while ago.)

----

A messenger walked into the partially-damaged capitol building. "Tygra, sir, I assume you're not deaf, but the plan of incinerating the pirate fleet--"

Tygra found the nearest heavy object-- a silver goblet-- and threw it at the messenger, knocking him out upon impact.

----

West of Pergies. A carrier pidgeon fluttered into the cabin of the ship, resting gently on its perch. Admiral Marco undid the latch on the glass casing (used to prevent corrosion from the weather) which contained a message from Captain Guido.

"Admiral-
There are some men headed north of Krizsan with the tome. Use ground forces to incercept. Our forces are retreating. Enemy has sustained heavy losses. Send word to Cagnazzo.
--Guido"

Admiral Marco was a methodical man, yet he knew the importance of this mission. He called in the Guild members. "You! The book is traveling north from Krizsan. We've obtained some steeds from the local farms. You are to take some of our more proficient snipers and warriors east with you. Expect heavy resistance: We have been told that they did not send that many men with them, but assume the worst. Now go!"

The adventurers and pirates ran out of the room and quickly disembarked. True enough, they found some powerful steeds at the beach guarded by the pirates camping outside to watch for potential enemies or game. They quickly got on and rode eastwards.

Outside of Krizsan. Guido looked anxiously as a soldier began running valiantly past the ruins of the harbor with a grenade in hand. "Is he going to try this again? But why one soldier?"

Then, the soldier turned towards his rank and hurled the grenade at them, maiming many. Tossing his uniform off, he dived into the water. "Quickly! Gun down the soldiers so that their bowmen can't nail our man in the water!" The pirates sent some errant shots, some taking out a swath or two of advancing soldiers. Then, the agent reached the side of Guido's ship and climbed aboard using a rope ladder. A few errant arrows found their way to the ship's deck, but none of them hit their intented target. The spy leapt down the hatch.

"Quickly! Shoot out a flare!" Guido look at this man confusedly. "Who are you--"
"I'm from the Guild. I was overhearing the action in the capitol building, when I heard Tygra order the tome out of the city with a small team."

Guido punched a nearby column, causing the ship to sway mildly. "Damnit! We'll have their hides!" The adventurer shook his head. "Listen, we don't have time to waste! They were ordered to go outside of the city. I couldn't have killed them all, but I tracked them to the city gates. They're headed north, presumably to get away from the coast. Anyway, we need to shoot forth flares immediately!" Guido shook his head. "No, not happening. But our flagship in this area, a Six-Rate named Firefly, should be able to intercept them."

A few arrows hit the hull of the ship. Some hit cannons and bounced off or went inside harmlessly. "Damnit! Why have we stopped striking them?" More of the cannons sent a barrage into the coast. "We need to keep the path from here to the capitol clear, do you understand? In fact, raze any buildings near the coast! Until we can see their armies that are pestering us, we won't be able to guarantee an exit route."

----

The cannons began focussing less and less on troops and more and more on buildings. Lyonard was shocked to see one of his divisions of men get crushed by rubble. "Damnit! These pirates aren't fooling!" He turned to the soldier who had effectively become his aide. "Do we have any snipers left?" The aide shook his head. "Not really. Actually, from what I hear, neither does anyone else. When you consider both the wands and the cannons..."
"Enough. Anyway, it looks as if their guns are turning in this direction. Let's get back to the capitol for now."

----

"Hey! Who's that!" Drale spotted what appeared to be a Hunters soldier running towards the party. His men readied their wands, but one of the accompanying Guild members stuck his arm out, motioning them back. "Hey," cried the Guild member, "what news do you have?"
"Well, a few things. The book was apparently taken once Tygra was aware of the attack. But we've tracked them down. The pirates should already be notified, and some of our men should be keeping a close watch on the bookbearers."

Drale cussed. "You mean, the book isn't here? What a waste of time!" But the Guild member to his side chuckled. "Relax. We have a contingency plan. At any rate, we seem to be holding out for now. But," referring to the messenger, "continue."

"Yes, well. Apparently, the enemy forces were preparing to corral us into the ruins of the harbor, but it looks like Guido has been going off of the deep end. He has been weasling out enemy forces hiding in streets by obliterating any and all coastal buildings. Master Rubicante might not approve of this wanton tactic, but it has effectively purged the route from here to the coast. Now..."

----

"Sir! Lyonard! The enemy!" The aide was wasting his breath. Lyonard saw the enemy. But from this distance, what was he going to do? He had already spent the last few minutes evading pirate cannon fire, and he was still technically in range. If he revealed his position now, all of his work would be for naught. Suddenly, one of the black-clad men fired an errant ice spray in their direction, injuring nobody.

"Crap! Everyone, retreat! Get out!" Fortunately, Lyonard's orders got to his men before Guido's saw the spray of ice. As the pirates tore down another building, Lyonard had only barely successfully escaped. The mercantile frigate and two sloops were nearing the shore. Some archers began taking out some of the black-clothed men, but very few. Soon, planks were lowered, and the army had been forced back too far to take advantage of the situation.

"The enemy has retreated! I want you twenty to search the city for any stragglers. The rest of you, come with me! We're headed towards the capitol."

In the back of his mind, Lyonard was thinking. "If this was a distraction technique to get our armies into Krizsan to leave our other cities vulnerable, then why actually attack Krizsan? And if they are attacking our other cities, after the losses we've taken, we'd be no match to take them on even if we could get back on time. If any cities get taken over, it's inevitable now. The biggest priority is not allowing Krizsan to fall: Master Tygra will have a difficult time as it is trying to restore confidence after this devastating raid. But none of this explains what happened... If we as reinforcements hadn't arrived, Krizsan may well have been even more devastated, if not taken-- although that's still unlikely. What motives are there? It makes no sense!"

----

Dear Mrrna,

We of the Guild are aware of the so-called Dominion of the Learned and are prepared to defend the interests of the people of the Karnold Province. However, we cannot devote any adventurers towards the cause of being a permanent guard. It might be possible, however, for us to send a detachment of pirate frigates to guard your waters from naval invaders. If you should so choose, we could gather up to four Third-Rate frigates for your defense, along with the support of Cutters and Sloops. Additionally, if you know that the Dominion is going to move to attack you, we would be happy to send aide under such circumstances.

Prices for our agents' service can be negotiable according to the magnitude of the task(s) assigned. Prices for naval assistance can be negotiated with Cagnazzo.

Signed, Rubicante, Master of the Adventurers' Guild"

(Apologies for the double-post: I want to keep both posts distinct since the subject matters are so massively different. Anyway, I essentially gave you the land around the harbor, but I don't want you wiping out the Looters- a conflict between Drale and Tygra would be nice. You or Wonko can continue the fighting in the city itself if you want.)

----

Outside of Krizsan. The townspeople with assorted guards begin filing into the harbor. Guido looks on them with bemusement. "They seem to want to oust us from their harbor- very well. Come on, boys- let's get out of arrow range."

The pirate ships began pulling out of the harbor. The untrained peasantry began cheering and sending their weapons into the air in a celebratory manner. Then, the ships turned to their sides. The peasants were confused.

And then, the first volley. The walls of the harbor began to buckle, and a great deal of peasants were killed by the cannons themselves. That the pirates' archers had a height advantage didn't help things. Most of the remaining peasants fled out of the harbor before the pirates' fire caused the supports to fall and the roof to collapse. "Child's play," a contented Guido remarked. "Keep firing. They don't have the capacity to take our ships or board them- our range of fire is essentially taken territory."

Suddenly, an arrow from out of nowhere pierced Guido's shoulder. "Aaaugh! Crap! Snipers!" Guido managed to stumble into his lower decks before the archer could fire another shot. "Crap! Those bastards came prepared, alright. Someone get me a telescope." Guido peeked out of one cannon slot and found the sniper. "There! Don't bother shooting at the archer, get the building! It's wood, it'll fold like a house of cards." The cannons took another shot at the multi-story house. Guido said a little prayer that the inhabitants had already evacuated as the cannonballs broke the structure like a twig, causing the sniper to be crushed by both the fall and random logs pounding him as he fell.

"Damnit! And now, they'll be expecting this tactic. Come on, get more people out here! Help me spot out any snipers. At this point, snipers in our range will likely be aiming for Drale as much as us. We have to help him get that book out of Tygra's hands!"

Suddenly, he saw something interesting. A group of mixed peasants and soldiers were running towardrs the harbor. They stopped shortly before the ruins of the harbor. Then, three peasants carrying bottles of booze ran past the ruins. "What are they... Damnit! That's a--"

Grenades. The peasants launched their volleys at one of the sloops closer to the harbor. The explosions didn't damage the hulls as much as Guido had feared, yet the real shocker was how far back the sloop was flung. The soldiers rejoiced until another sloop used their cannons to blast the peasants into a red pulp. The swoop regained its balance, but Guido could already see the soldiers reading another group of peasants.

"Damn! Someone push some of these cannons out of the way. That damned sloop had better back the hell up. Get these slots filled with archers, and aim for the peasants." Archers readied their bows and took out some of the soldiers and peasants, causing them to retreat a bit. Then, an arrow tore through one of the archers' skulls. "Crap! Why aren't we taking care of those goddamned snipers?"

Much to Guido's great fortune, the sloop closest to the makeshift grenadiers began pulling out of their immediate range. The other sloop fired a round of cannons, causing the stone building to tumble a bit and collapse with a satisfying "crunch!" Then, more sniper rounds began to hit some of his archers. "What? Those arrows are facing upwards... No! Were the grenades a distraction technique? There are snipers in the harbor's rubble. Someone figure out where that arrow came from and send some iron in that bastard's direction!"

So far, apart from a few coastal buildings razed, Guido was having less success than he had anticipated.

----

"Ghh... I have to give the pirates this much," a frustrated Lyonard said. "They're persistent, and almost as ruthless as we are. Did we manage to get some snipers planted? If we can do that, we can limit how close to the shores they can get."

The Captain of the Guard piped up. "What about flaming arrows, sir?" But Lyonard shook his head. "Their frigates and sloops have sails, but they're also rowboats. Plus, if you look at the effect the grenades had, it's clear that they used wax or some other fire-retardant substance on their hulls. Any word from Master Tygra?"

One of the soldiers spoke. "Well, yes, sir... He actually wants the snipers to devote their time on stopping the mysterious raiders who are headed in a b-line towards the capitol." Lyonard spat. "We're running out of the snipers we have. And fast. But I don't want the pirates to send their reinforcements. In these close quarters, even their small numbers might wreak havoc. Say, can you do me a favor?"
"Sir?"
"Make your way to the capitol and tell Tygra or any other officer there that we've managed to keep the pirates off of the shores for now, but we don't expect this to continue for very long."
"Sir!"

The soldier ran off, using the mostly empty alleyways and vacant streets in the city to avoid the chaos of the fighting. Then, he came up to a completely vacant intersection, in the center of which was a well. There were four soldiers surrounding it, each one acting shadier than the next. One of them pointed at the soldier, and another pointed his two fingers at the soldier. The poor lad barely had time to turn around before a Wound spell cut a gaping hole in his chest. For good measure, the sapper cast another Wound spell.

The bookmark is merely a way for me to know where the book is without someone pulling a, "Oh look! You went to the wrong building!" deal. Yeah, it's physical and small. I'll gladly eliminate it- I only did it under the assumption that placing a discrete artifact (especially given the timeframe they had) is considerably less cheap than attacking your capitol to get a book that has "secretly" changed locations from one city to the next.

And as for urban combat- Every empire has taken over cities. What I'm referring to is that now, you're dealing with (essentially) Stalingrad. (Plus, it was merely my assessment that you're not used to urban combat, not a fact.)

? ? ?.

The man stood ten feet tall- at least, if you could call it a man- with thick armor made of bones and obsidian obscuring the vast majority of his figure. Its skin seemed to glow a dull yet lurid red, with the light creeping out of the cracks in its armor. It held two scythes, each one as taller than most men.

Then, in an instant, a red flash erupted from within the armor and a force of pressure swept dust and pebbles away from it. Satsujin had to protect his eyes from dust with the arm of his robe.

"Why... I am summoned. Who are you. Why am I summoned."

The being spoke in a dry, ephemeral, raspy monotone. Satsujin pointed to his right. "I am Satsujin. You are Scarmiglione, and I have a task for you."

Scarmiglione shifted his weight from one shoulder to the next. Then, he took a good look at Satsujin, his red, glowing and beady eyes only barely visible from within his greathelm. "You... You are old. I remember you." Satsujin shrugged. "You are an older being at this point. If you recognize my power signature, I am not surprised. Anyway, your task is to serve me."

The giant shook its head. "If you obtained me from Rubicante, you could have merely hired some lesser members of the Guild." Satsujin shook his head. "No, Scar. You--"
"Scarmiglione."
"What?"
"My name is not 'Scar.' I demand respect."
"Fine. Scarmiglione. Anyway, I do need your strength. There is an artifact inside of a lair deep down in this mountain that I want you to recover."

Scarmiglione walked slowly towards a gaping crevasse in the ground nearby. What he saw caused him to flinch. "This is...!"
Satsujin clasped his hands together. "So, you remember this place? I had heard rumors, but... No, this confirms them. You-- you were the sole survivor of the mission the Guild was given to investigate these ruins fifty years ago. And look at how it has changed you." Scarmiglione pointed a scythe at Satsujin. "Who are you? Who are you, really?"

Satsujin took both black gloves off of his hands, revealing not hands, but paws. He lifted the black hood off of his head and the veil off of his face, revealing a mottled, reddish-orange fur coat with bleak, grey eyes. "I have come back for something my master left when he followed Olindbar the great traitor out of this world. You will retrieve for me an item called the 'Red Beacon.' It is an intricately carved ruby roughly as large as a human head. You will recognize it immediately, as the demon activity you are all too familiar with seems to be centering around it."

Still staring deep into the pit out of one corner of his eyes while glaring at Satsujin from the other corner, Scarmiglione let his scythe fall. "So. The scrolls I retrieved... They were simply phase one in your plan?" Satsujin smiles, baring his fangs. "This is the next step. I will follow in my master's steps." Scarmiglione turned towards him, confused. "You will leave this world?" Satsujin waved his left hand, sweeping Scarmiglione's imaginary suggestion off of the proverbial table. "I am not going to leave this world."

Or so you think. But for what you did to me, you shall, Scarmiglione thought to himself.

"I will be waiting. You have your task, now do it."

With that, Scarmiglione lept into the demonic fumerole, under miles of which laid a large and ancient ruin. Satsujin turned back from the cave against a reassuring backdrop of the sound of demons perishing. Oh, but Scar... How do you not see it? Your ignorance is a load off of my mind.

Faction: Adventurer's Guild (aka "The Guild")

Characters (Not to be Murdered):
Rubicante: All leaders of the Guild have historically abandoned their own name and taken up the pseudonym of "Rubicante" upon achieving the position. The current Rubicante is a portly tactician and administrator with a handlebar moustache and an impeccable sense of style. He tends to enjoy working through the shadows since the fall of civilization, but he also tends to only oppose outright evil organizations.
Cagnazzo: He is the leader of the pirate navy that is more and more rapidly becoming an authoritative arm of the Guild. Cagnazzo currently controls what is estimated to be the world's strongest unified navy, although he does not own the oceans.
Scarmiglione: A mostly shadow figure previously encased in a golden sphere due to his tendency for wanton violence and unusually high amounts of power.
Barbariccia: Not a biological character necessarily, Barbariccia is a gigantic, heavily-fortified naval fortress more than any sort of ship. It's technically mobile, although especially since the fall of civilization, it has acted as a relay point for Guild activities. Its hull is magically defended, it has a few (but not many, as such things are ridiculously difficult to create) magical artillery cannons, and an egregious number of conventional naval guns. It was an incredible drain on both the Guild's and Cagnazzo's finances, but serves as an incredible source of pride for the organization and symbolizes their alliance.

Contacts:
Order of Krell- The Druids and the Guild are allies and are assisting one another in making war on the Hunters.
Looters- The Guild has entered a tentative alliance with the Looters against the Hunters.
Hunters- The Guild has used its naval strength to strangle trade and has been using its connections to war on this faction in a clandestine fashion that does not immediately incriminate them (although the Hunters by their nature may suspect the Guild).
Khoth's Disciples- The Guild has sent down adventurers to assist the Disciples in a quest.
Karnold Isles League- The Guild is negotiating with the League about the menacing Dominion.
[The Guild knows of Aizoan Empire, Righteous Return, Keepers of Memory, Enlightened Anama, Dominion of the Learned and Abyss Knights, but has declined to contact such organizations for varying reasons.]

Sphere of Involvement:
Likely- The oceans between Vantanas, Pralgad and Valorim. Northern Vantanas is friendly towards the Guild and is a ground-based rallying point. Otherwise, Guild members tend to travel quite ubiquitously.
Unlikely- Avernum and Upper Avernum have seen a drastic decrease in Guild activities since the revolution. The Great Cave has become utterly devoid of any Guild presence since the fall of regional authorities and the resurgence of the Abyss Knights. Pralgad has not seen much Guild activity due to the anti-human/anti-adventurer sentiment of its factions. Aizo has seen no real activity either.

Post 1: A mysterious being named "Satsujin" pressures the Guild into relinquishing an item capable of summoning Scarmiglione.

Post 2: Guild's invisible spies find the Hunters' magical tome but trigger an alarm, escape without being captured.

Post 3: Pirate ships wall off the southern coast of Valorim, preventing mercantile fleets from entering or leaving Hunters territory.

Post 4: Rubicante ponders ways to take down regimes in S. Valorim. Guild sends aid to Khoth's Disciples.

Post 5: Guild accepts the Looters' offer since it was their plan in the first place. Scarmiglione's summoning begins.

Post 6: Cagnazzo's navy intercepts Drale's faux-mercantile fleet and helps them reach Krizsan.

Post 7: Cagnazzo's navy brings the Looters into Krizsan's harbor, Guild sends in reinforcements, heavy Hunters forces begin amassing outside of Krizsan.

Post 8: Satsujin reveals itself as a feline humanoid. Scarmiglione enters the demon-filled crevasse.

Post 9: Pirates withdraw from the immediate area of the harbor and fire on armed peasantry, decimating them and their harbor structure. Snipers force the pirates belowdecks. Pirates begin firing on buildings acting as sniper roosts. Lyonard sends grenadiers out to meet pirates; pirates begin shooting blindly at Lyonard's men.

Spellcasting men in Hunters uniforms gathering around a well kill off a messenger after doing something to the well.

Post 10: Captain Guido receives word that the Hunters have evacuated their magical tome. Lyonard retreats under heavy cannon fire with minimal casualties. Looters and Guild agents make it into harbor. Guild offers assistance to Karnold Islands.

Post 11: Guido fires cannons into ambushed Looters and Sergeant McCallister's forces. McCallister retreats. Guido fires a flaming arrow into the Hunters' attempt to pour oil into the water, causing a loud and destructive explosion. Guido sends word to Admiral Marco to send some men east to recover the magical tome.

Post 12: Tygra begins becoming unhinged since the mind-liberation of his army and officers corps. Lyonard and McCallister begin taking control of the situation.

Post 13: Lyonard assassinates Tygra and nominates McCallister to be the new leader of southwestern Valorim in order to avoid attempts on his own life.

Post 14: Lyonard calls in Malphis, a former Imperial Interrogator, and asks that he begin weeding out Guild agents in the "Alliance of Science and Education." Lyonard outlines his plans to court the support of the Order of Krell in order to restrain the Guild's activities.
