Well, it's definitely not a shoddy work- I might give it a more in-depth look in a day or two, although I've been distracting myself from designing as is... Eh. I have plenty of things to say about this scenario, so I'll save it for the reviews. It's worth the play. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Exact statistics? In combat, did you use haste to give yourself an extra boost? Did you bless much? How did you survive the "ray" attacks of the avatars? I'm in disbelief- but I suppose that I'll have to try it myself. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

The "ending" portion isn't as long as the "beginning" portion, although it IS of healthy length- AC3 reaches above its 100th town with the final chapters, ending somewhere around 125 (taking away the 25 unused ones in-between). Dungeons range from cool (Volton) to horrible (Pelzbarii), and there's a hell of alot of gameplay. I got through it, but understandably, others haven't. (Plus, I basically skimmed through much of it- ignoring sidequests and whatnot. I'm shameless. -_-) -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Not happening. BoA's level mechanics basically means that monsters get so big that even one skeleton (they're set as level 15 or summat) is too much for a level 1 party- too many HP, and no truly reliable way to down it. Well, not saying that you can't prove me wrong, but good luck. -_- -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

If Jeff could actually construct a world with reasonable accuracy in the midst of a mythology OTHER than stereotypical swords-and-magic TWICE (first being Nethergate), I would be pleasantly surprised. -------------------- Rate My Scenarios! Not true. I don't think you know what the term "every battle" means. "Every battle" means every time the scenario puts an enemy in front of your face. :P (Which, FYI, is impossible for DMII to do- outdoor battles.) -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

(And mostly because of how easy it is!) Eh- I also placed NPCs in every battle in B2, with the sole exceptions of the Gold Mine (there is potential for a fight w/out NPCs), Shadow's, the Cathedral (and there's good reason), and... Wow, that may just be it. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Correction: AC3 doesn't have NPCs, it has quasi-NPCs. Unlike real NPCs which join all fights they're around for, the NPCs in AC3 either don't fight at all or fight in very limited circumstances. There's a difference. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

quote:Wait, you mean you have the gall to say that BoE needs support? I take personal offense (and sure as hell would Alcritas, were he here). The community has generated its OWN support, and has far outshone what JV could have done on his own. Expansive reviews, comprehensive reviews, a searchable database, hundreds of quality graphics, articles, competitions... And lord, not to mention the scenarios themselves! (What did Jeff ever give us- Bandit Busywork? A joke.) No, BoE is quite well-supported, even while (and dare I say in spite of) not having JV's singet stamped on every piece of it. BoE is out-dated? What, and Blades of Avernum uses the latest in 4d Mega-Vision Sound-Blaster video technology? BoE is 10 years behind the times, but Blades of Avernum is a good 7-9 years old itself. If you play a Spiderweb game, it is not for mind-blowing graphics that you need a new computer for, it is for superior gameplay and a story beyond Diablo's "Kill All Demons" (although admittedly, Exile/Avernum does sink to this level on occasion). BoE is outdated- so what? Unless you're some psychopathic fourth-grader desperate to kill 30x40 sprites in iso-3d fifty times over again without regard for story, then buy BoE for sure. -------------------- 人 た ち を 燃 え る た め に 俺 は か れ ら に 火 を 上 げ る か ら 死 ん だ Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Well, there IS a work-around... Have a quest called "Kill the Dragon", and then have another called "Kill the Dragon (Complete)". take away the first and give the second whenever the quest is over. In fact, I might just do that with my next work... -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

"A Promising Future?" Yeah, in 2-3 years from now. Don't you bloody get it? For the first few years of BoE, there were only a handful of decent scenarios to play. Now, there are 7 years worth of hard work there. You are not only a masochist but an ignoramus if you choose to ignore the monstrous effort put forth for nearly a decade which has served to raise RPGs out of the FF hacking-and-dungeons paradigm into the role of an actual storytelling device. BoA, on the other hand, has Diplomacy with the Dead as its spokesman for elegantly-portrayed storytelling devices. The choice is obvious. -------------------- 人 た ち を 燃 え る た め に 俺 は か れ ら に 火 を 上 げ る か ら 死 ん だ Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

If Michael manages to patch up his scenario to the point where it DESERVES a 2.0, I will give up my worldly possessions and wait for the end-times to come. This is, beyond any measure of a doubt, the worst scenario for BoA yet. (And hopefully the worst ever to be made, because god knows I'll quit if a large influx of scenarios WORSE than this occurs.) -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

It's THAT BAD and FAR WORSE. If you actually do the General Public the misservice of releasing this atrocity, Spidweb will have to create a scenario category for scenarios with scores of 1.0-1.9. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

BoE, no questions asked. But do yourself a favor and DON'T associate JV's "masterpieces" with the potential of third-party scenarios- let me attest that the work of the designing community puts JV to shame. -------------------- 人 た ち を 燃 え る た め に 俺 は か れ ら に 火 を 上 げ る か ら 死 ん だ Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |
